Get Witherhide Cliffstomper mount

Witherhide Cliffstomper is a ground mount from the clefthoof family, added in the Warlords of Draenor expansion with patch 6.0.2. It is a massive armored beast with distinctive elongated claws on its hooves that let it move confidently across the mountain slopes of Draenor. The mount is sold in the garrison for gold, making it one of the easiest collectible mounts to obtain.

In 2026, in the current Midnight version, the mount can still be purchased from the same garrison vendor in Draenor. The character level requirement was lowered in patch 9.0.1, so today the mount is available practically within the first hours of play.

The Witherhide Cliffstomper is valuable for several reasons:

• Collection value. Adds +1 to your mount counter and counts toward achievements for the number of mounts collected.
• Unique model. This clefthoof with its armored hide coloring looks impressive and stands out among standard mounts.
• Ease of acquisition. It requires no raids, dungeons, or lengthy farming — all you need is gold and a leveled garrison.
• Available to both factions. The mount is sold by both the Alliance and the Horde, so you can get it on any character.

To purchase the Witherhide Cliffstomper, you must meet several conditions:

• Character level: 17 (in 2026, after the patch 9.0.1 changes).
• Riding skill: Apprentice Riding.
• Garrison: A level 3 Town Hall in Draenor. Without it, the vendor will not appear.
• Gold: 20,000 gold on hand.

You can reach the garrison through a portal in Orgrimmar or Stormwind (the Hall of Champions or the portal room), or via the garrison return spell if you have already learned it.

Step 1. Check your level and riding. Make sure your character has reached level 17 and has the Apprentice Riding skill. If you don't have the skill, buy it from any riding trainer in the capital.

Step 2. Prepare your garrison. If you haven't yet completed the Draenor intro chain, do it: the Alliance starts at the Dark Portal, the Horde does too but with a separate chain. Follow the quests until you build your own garrison and upgrade it to level 3. This will require your character to reach a certain level and to gather enough resources.

Step 3. Save up 20,000 gold. You can accumulate this amount in various ways: through professions, the auction house, rerunning old raids, or quests in the current The War Within content.

Step 4. Head to the vendor.

• Alliance: fly to Lunarfall (Shadowmoon Valley) and find Trader Aranda near the garrison Town Hall.
• Horde: head to Frostwall (Frostfire Ridge) and look for Trader Darrak at the Town Hall entrance.

Step 5. Buy the mount. In the vendor window, find the Witherhide Cliffstomper entry and purchase it for 20,000 gold. The item will go into your bag.

Step 6. Use the item. Right-click the icon to add the mount to your collection. After that the mount becomes available in the collections window and counts toward achievements.

If you are collecting several mounts from Draenor vendors at once, plan your route in advance:

• Combine purchases. The same garrison vendor also sells the Mosshide Riverwallow and other clefthoofs. Save up gold for all of them and buy them in one trip.
• Upgrade your garrison ahead of time. Keep a level 3 Town Hall on a single character so you don't have to repeat the process on alts — the mount is account-bound and is available to your whole collection after the first acquisition.
• Use garrison professions. The herb garden, mine, and work orders still bring in resources that you can sell on the auction house for gold.
• Catch bonus-gold events. During seasonal Midnight holidays and weekly quests you can earn decent sums in a short amount of time.
