Get Siltwing Albatross mount
Overview

Siltwing Albatross is a flying mount added to World of Warcraft with the release of patch 8.1.0 "Tides of Vengeance" in the Battle for Azeroth expansion. This majestic ocean wanderer is considered one of the rarest birds found on the islands of the Great Sea, and the mount's official in-game description emphasizes its exceptional status among all the winged steeds available along the coasts of Kul Tiras and Zandalar.
The mount's model depicts a large albatross with long, sweeping wings, gray-white plumage, and a distinctive beak. After the mount was released in patch 8.1, players complained that the model was too small, and in August 2019 the developers issued a hotfix increasing the albatross's size by 25% for most races and by 50% for large races. Thanks to this, the mount now looks dignified even beneath dwarves, taurens, and orcs.
Unlike most collectible trophies from Island Expeditions, which drop randomly with a low chance, the Siltwing Albatross is purchased directly with currency. This means you are guaranteed to obtain the mount once you accumulate the required amount of Seafarer's Dubloons — the only question is how much time you are willing to spend on expeditions.
Why You Want This Mount
- Guaranteed acquisition — no need to rely on luck, just accumulate the currency through repeatable content
- Unusual model — albatrosses are rarely used as mounts, and the Siltwing is one of the few representatives of this bird in players' collections
- Available to both factions — both the Alliance and the Horde have their own vendor, so the mount can be obtained on any character
- Account-bound — once purchased it becomes available to all of your characters
- Flying mount — a full-fledged steed for traveling across zones with free flight
- Thematic trophy — it fits organically into the image of a seafarer, pirate, or explorer, especially in Battle for Azeroth zones
How to Obtain
Obtaining the Siltwing Albatross requires two steps: accumulating 1000 Seafarer's Dubloons through Island Expeditions and then purchasing the mount from your faction's vendor.
Step 1. Unlock Island Expeditions
- Reach level 35 (previously level 120 was required) and complete the introductory Battle for Azeroth story line
- Gain access to your capital base: Boralus for the Alliance or Zuldazar for the Horde
- Approach the expedition table on the deck of your flagship and select any of the available expedition types
Step 2. Accumulate Seafarer's Dubloons
Every Island Expedition rewards Seafarer's Dubloons depending on the chosen difficulty:
- Normal — a small amount of dubloons per completion
- Heroic — a moderate amount of dubloons
- Mythic — the largest amount per expedition, usually 10–14 dubloons
- PvP variant (optional) — grants additional rewards and random trophies
With optimal play on Mythic difficulty, accumulating 1000 dubloons will take roughly 70–100 expeditions. Each expedition lasts about 15–25 minutes, so the total farming time will range from 20 to 40 hours of pure play.
Step 3. Buy the Mount from the Vendor
When you have 1000 Seafarer's Dubloons in your account, head to your faction's vendor and purchase the mount:
- Alliance — Captain Klarisa in Boralus, Tiragarde Sound
- Horde — Captain Zen'taga in Dazar'alor, Zuldazar
Both vendors are located near the expedition table on their respective faction's flagships and offer a wide range of expedition-related goods: toys, pets, cosmetic items, and the Siltwing Albatross mount.
Tips for Farming Seafarer's Dubloons
Play on Maximum Difficulty
Each difficulty tier of the expedition increases the number of dubloons received. If your character and gear allow it, always choose Mythic difficulty — this is the fastest way to accumulate 1000 currency.
Gather a Group in Advance
Expeditions are designed for a group of three players. Playing with a consistent team significantly speeds up completion: an experienced group clears a Mythic expedition in 12–18 minutes, whereas a random matchmaking run can stretch the run out to 25–30 minutes.
Don't Skip Weekly Quests
The ships in Boralus and Dazar'alor offer weekly quests related to expeditions. They give a large one-time reward in dubloons and should be completed first thing each play week.
Collect Treasures Inside the Expedition
Some islands feature chests and rare mobs that additionally grant a small amount of dubloons. Pay attention to the map during the run and divert toward treasure markers if it doesn't slow down completion.
Use Bonus Events
Blizzard periodically launches events with increased rewards for certain content. If you see a bonus weekend or a month of expeditions — use it for maximum currency farming.
Additional Tips
- Buy several rewards at once — the vendor also sells other mounts, and if you plan to collect the whole collection, distribute your farming in advance
- Check the currency cap — the maximum stockpile of Seafarer's Dubloons is 10,000, and you won't lose what you've accumulated if you take a break from farming
- Don't rush to spend currency on random items — some boosters and one-time rewards may seem useful, but always prioritize mounts if your goal is to expand your collection
- Use the mount in Battle for Azeroth zones — visually, the albatross looks best against the backdrop of the ocean, cliffs, and jungles of Zandalar, which emphasizes its sea-bird theme
- Watch the model size — after the 2019 hotfix the mount became noticeably larger, but it is still smaller than most classic flying steeds, so keep this nuance in mind when choosing a look for screenshots
- Account-bound — after purchase the mount becomes available to all characters on your account, so it doesn't matter which one you farm the currency with: it's most convenient to use a character with good gear
- Combine with other goals — expeditions also grant reputation with the factions of Kul Tiras and Zandalar, trophy items, and a chance to drop other collectible mounts, so farming dubloons won't be "empty" time
