Get Nibelung
Overview

Nibelung is an epic two-handed staff crowned with outstretched wings and a hovering ice crystal. Its cold blue-and-white palette and val'kyr wing motif make it one of the most recognizable staves for looks tied to the undead, frost, and the theme of the Scourge.
The item hails from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion and is intended for staff-using intellect classes — priests, mages, warlocks, druids, and shamans. Beyond its beautiful model, Nibelung has a famous combat effect: offensive spells have a chance to summon a val'kyr that fights at your side for 30 seconds. It is precisely this effect, along with the appearance, that keeps the staff a coveted goal to this day.
Source
Nibelung drops from Lady Deathwhisper — the second boss of the Icecrown Citadel raid in Northrend.
- The drop chance is around 4.66%, so the staff is far from guaranteed in a single run.
- The boss stands not far from the entrance, on the upper tier of the citadel's vestibule. The approximate coordinates are about 39, 87.
- This is raid content from the Wrath of the Lich King era, so today it is easily soloed on almost any level 90 class.
- Raid entry is available once per week per character: after killing Lady Deathwhisper you have to wait for the loot reset, or farm the staff in parallel on several characters.
- To reach the boss, head into Icecrown Citadel via Icecrown in Northrend and clear your way to the second boss.
Who It Suits Visually
- It fits perfectly into looks themed around the undead and the Scourge — icy, bony, and dark-blue sets.
- It harmonizes with the white-and-blue frost palette typical of frost mages and ice priests.
- It pairs well with Icecrown Citadel-tier sets thanks to the shared styling of the gear.
- The val'kyr wing motif echoes angel and spirit themes — a fine pick for "heavenly" priest looks.
- It contrasts with the dark demonic sets of the warlock — a debatable but striking accent.
Tips
The most convenient way to farm the staff is solo: the raid is outdated, and Lady Deathwhisper is the second boss and dies quickly.
Keep the weekly limit in mind: loot from the boss is available once per week per character, so mass farming runs through several characters.
Account for the low drop chance (~4.66%) — collecting it may take several weeks.
Along with the staff, the whole raid drops plenty of other weapon and armor appearances from Icecrown Citadel, so press on if you are assembling a set.
Nibelung's combat effect still works today, so people keep it not only for the look but also as a fun "val'kyr pet" for old content.
The appearance is available to characters of both factions — both the Alliance and the Horde enter the raid.
