Get Nightblade
Overview

Nightblade is an epic two-handed sword from the classic era of World of Warcraft. Despite its low item level, it is a full-fledged epic item of purple quality: a dark, narrow blade with a cold sheen and a plain hilt free of extra ornamentation. The silhouette is austere and "shadowy," without bright gems — hence the name.
The sword has its own combat effect: on hit it has a chance to cast
Shadow Bolt, dealing extra shadow magic damage. This makes no difference for transmogrification, but it adds character to the item — at low levels a blade like this looked impressive. Today it is collected purely for its appearance.
Source
Nightblade is a so-called world drop: it is not tied to a specific boss but drops from a wide variety of low-level enemies all across Azeroth.
- The source type is a world drop from ordinary mobs of an appropriate level, with no link to a single raid or dungeon.
- The drop chance is extremely low, noticeably less than one percent from any individual enemy.
- Because of the randomness of the source, deliberately farming this specific sword is inefficient — it drops "along the way."
- The most reliable way to obtain the item is to buy it at the auction house: the sword shows up for sale regularly, since it is dropped by many players by chance.
- Once the sword is in your hands, you simply learn its appearance, and it stays in your transmogrification collection forever.
Since the exact drop location is not pinned to a single mob, there is no point in focusing on a specific "farm spot." If you still want to get the sword from combat, kill low-level enemies along the way while running through old zones, but rely primarily on the auction house.
Who It Suits Visually
- It fits dark and "shadowy" looks — the blade harmonizes with black, purple, and gray-steel gear.
- It works well in rogue-warrior and mercenary concepts thanks to its austere shape with no flashy decorations.
- It looks great with muted leather and mail armor, where a bright accent weapon is not needed.
- It contrasts with light and golden sets — against such a background the sword stands out as a grim accent.
Tips
Do not try to farm the sword from a specific mob: as a world drop it appears rarely and unpredictably, so betting on targeted farming almost always loses out in terms of time.
Check the auction house regularly — the price fluctuates greatly depending on the server and time, and sometimes you can snag the sword cheaply.
If you do farm it manually, it is more profitable to quickly clear large groups of low-level enemies: the more kills per hour, the higher the total chance for a world drop.
For a max-level character, getting the sword is trivial in terms of combat strength — the only real difficulty is the rarity of the drop, not the fight itself.
After obtaining it, immediately learn the appearance through the transmogrifier: the epic quality and combat effect are irrelevant for the look, and only the model remains in your collection.
Keep in mind that the sword has a percentage chance to apply a Shadow Bolt effect in combat — at low levels it is a noticeable touch, but it has no bearing on the transmog itself.
