Obsidian Worldbreaker
Overview

Obsidian Worldbreaker is an epic flying mount added to World of Warcraft in patch 8.2.5 as part of the game's 15th anniversary celebration (November 2019 — January 2020). The mount's model fully recreates the appearance of Deathwing — one of the franchise's most recognizable villains, the black Dragon Aspect who tore Azeroth apart during the Cataclysm.
Originally the mount was granted only for the achievement Memories of Fel, Frost and Fire, which required completing all three wings of the anniversary raid "Memories of Azeroth" with Chromie in the Caverns of Time. As of 2026, it remains one of the most coveted black dragons in any collection, and it can be obtained in three ways: during a recurring anniversary event, through the Black Market Auction House, or by waiting for it to return again. This mount is compatible with the Skyriding skill, so it is fully functional in modern zones.
Why you want this mount
- Deathwing's model — it is an exact replica of the appearance of Azeroth's destroyer from the Cataclysm, one of the few ways to legitimately fly on the legendary Aspect of Earth in your collection
- Prestige status — the mount is tied to a time-limited anniversary event, so in flight it is instantly recognized by other players
- A full-fledged flying dragon — it supports all flight speeds and is compatible with Skyriding after the updates added for the 20th anniversary
- A paired mount — it has a blue counterpart, also tied to anniversary events, allowing you to assemble a striking set of two dragons
- Account-wide — once obtained,
Obsidian Worldbreaker appears in the mount collection of all your characters on both factions - Speed bonus — a full epic flyer, it applies +150%, +280%, or +310% to flight speed depending on your riding skill, and on the ground it works at +60% / +100%
Requirements and prerequisites
- Minimum level: 10. Technically this is enough to obtain and use the mount, but every method is tied to content above level 30
- Riding skill: ground travel requires at least Apprentice Riding, and flight requires Expert Riding or higher. At max level 90 these skills are unlocked automatically
- Black Market access: you need a character located in a capital city (Stormwind, Orgrimmar, Bolvar's New Home, etc.) near the Black Market Auction House auctioneers. The character must have enough gold to compete for a bid
- Participation in anniversary events: obtaining the mount without paying is only possible during the official celebration of a recurring WoW anniversary. The events launch every five years (15th, 20th, 25th, and so on)
How to obtain
As of 2026, there are three methods. Choose the one most realistic for your situation.
Method 1. Wait for the next WoW anniversary
This is the most reliable free path for those who missed both the 15th and the 20th celebrations.
- Follow the news on the official World of Warcraft website — every five years Blizzard launches a celebratory event lasting about 2 months
- During the event, head to the Caverns of Time in Tanaris — this is where all the anniversary activity takes place
- Pick up the introductory quest "A Celebratory Invitation" from your incoming mail: the letter arrives automatically on your first login during the event period
- At the caretaker vendor, exchange Bronze Celebration Tokens for the
Obsidian Worldbreaker for 20 tokens (the price set during the 20th anniversary)
Method 2. Hunting on the Black Market
The mount occasionally appears on the Black Market as a lot from the Majordomo Executus. This method works year-round and does not depend on events.
- Visit the Black Market auctioneers in capital cities and the Caverns of Time
- Check the mounts tab —
Obsidian Worldbreaker appears rarely, usually once every few weeks per realm - The starting bid is 200,000 gold, but actual bidding goes much higher — often 2–12 million and more
- Use the TradeSkillMaster or BlackMarketMadness addon to receive alerts when the lot appears
- Place your final bid 1–2 minutes before the auction ends so you don't inflate the price prematurely
Method 3. A missed 15th anniversary event
If you participated in the 15th anniversary but the mount for some reason did not land on your account, contact Blizzard support. The official site has a dedicated article (number 255141) with instructions: most such requests are resolved by a support agent granting the mount manually. This path only works for players whose account history records completion of the achievement Memories of Fel, Frost and Fire.
How it was obtained during the 15th anniversary (for reference)
The historical method matters because the makeup of future anniversary events is judged by this very mechanic. The event ran from November 5, 2019 to January 7, 2020.
- After logging in, the player received a letter with a Timely Invitation that sent them to the chronologist Chromie in the Caverns of Time
- Chromie offered three wings of the raid "Memories of Azeroth" through the built-in group finder. The minimum item level to enter was 380
- Players had to clear all three wings, each of which consisted of three bosses
- After clearing all nine bosses, the achievement Memories of Fel, Frost and Fire triggered and the mount arrived in the mail
How it was obtained during the 20th anniversary
As part of the 20th anniversary celebration (October 22, 2024 — January 6, 2025), Blizzard returned the mount to a permanent, safe route: you simply bought it from a vendor.
- Head to Tanaris, to the entrance of the Caverns of Time. The vendor's coordinates:
/way 62.9 51.0 Vendor Reginald - Farm Bronze Celebration Tokens through weekly and daily quests, as well as by running raids and dungeons
- Accumulate at least 20 tokens for the mount itself. Keep in mind that other anniversary rewards (older mounts, pets, tier sets) also cost tokens
- Approach the vendor Reginald and exchange 20 Bronze Celebration Tokens for the
Obsidian Worldbreaker
Useful tips
- Don't ignore any anniversary event — Blizzard methodically returns old anniversary mounts every five years. If you miss a given anniversary, the next opportunity won't come sooner than 5 years later
- Save up gold for the Black Market in advance — bids on rare anniversary mounts quickly climb into the millions. Without a reserve of at least 500,000 gold it is pointless to try
- Check your account history — if you played actively in 2019 but don't remember whether you completed Chromie's raid, open the achievements tab and find the line "Memories of Fel, Frost and Fire". If the achievement was earned but the mount is missing, contact support right away
- Watch the Black Market on different realms — auctions run per realm, and in less populated worlds the prices for the same lots are noticeably lower. With a character transfer available, this can pay off
- Use a notifier addon — the BlackMarketMadness addon sends a message when a specific lot appears on the Black Market. This saves hours of visits to the capital
- Don't buy through third-party marketplaces — any boosting services promising a "guaranteed" mount violate Blizzard's user agreement. This leads to account suspension along with the collection you've already assembled
