Otterworldly Ottuk Carrier
Overview

Otterworldly Ottuk Carrier is a legendary ground, flying and aquatic mount in the form of a ghostly ottuk, added in patch 10.0.0 (the Dragonflight pre-patch, October 2022). The mount was originally called "Ottuk Carrier" and received its current name in patch 10.0.2. The mount is a reward for the Thanks for the Carry! achievement, which requires collecting 500 mounts available to a single character. It is the pinnacle achievement in the chain of collection rewards for amassed means of transport.
Why You Want This Mount
- Versatility — the mount works on the ground, in the air and in the water. You won't have to switch between mounts when changing environments: you can dive underwater straight out of flight
- Increased swim speed — the Otterworldly Ottuk Carrier grants +100% swim speed, comparable to full-fledged aquatic mounts
- Mount equipment compatibility — unlike most aquatic mounts, this ottuk can use mount equipment, such as Inflatable Mount Shoes. This is a rare advantage for a mount with aquatic abilities
- Unique appearance — the ghostly glow and bone armor make the mount one of the most recognizable in the game. Among all ottuks, only this one has an otherworldly visual theme
- Collector's prestige — 500 mounts is a serious milestone. Owning this ottuk speaks to years of experience and dedication to collecting
- Account-wide availability — once obtained, the mount appears in the collection of all your characters
How to Obtain
The Otterworldly Ottuk Carrier is granted automatically upon earning the Thanks for the Carry! achievement. To do so, you need to collect 500 mounts available to a single character.
Step 1. Check Your Current Progress
Open the achievement log (the Y key), go to the "Collections" — "Mounts" section. Find the "Thanks for the Carry!" achievement and see how many mounts have already been counted. Note: only mounts available to one specific character are counted, not the overall account-wide total.
Step 2. Identify Available Mount Sources
Open the mount collection (Shift+P) and switch the filter to "Not Collected". Study the list of available mounts and determine which of them you can obtain the fastest.
Step 3. Collect Mounts From All Available Sources
More on the sources in the "Step-by-Step Collection Guide" section below.
Step 4. Claim the Reward
When the counter reaches 500, the "Thanks for the Carry!" achievement will be completed automatically, and the
Otterworldly Ottuk Carrier will appear in your mount collection.
Step-by-Step Collection Guide
Collecting 500 mounts is a long-term project that can take from several months to several years. Below are the main mount categories and the approximate number available in each of them.
Faction Vendors (50–70 mounts)
The fastest start. Buy all of your faction's racial mounts from vendors in the capital cities. Each race offers from 3 to 8 mounts. Purchasing the mounts of another race of your faction requires "Exalted" reputation.
Gold Vendors (10–20 mounts)
Several dozen mounts are sold for gold with no reputation requirements. Examples: mounts from Mei Francis in Dalaran, Black Market mounts, mounts from various vendors in the capital cities.
Reputation (80–120 mounts)
One of the largest sources. Almost every expansion added factions with mounts for reaching a certain reputation level.
Dungeons and Raids (40–60 mounts)
Mounts with a drop chance from 0.5% to 5% from final bosses. Old content can be soloed. Key sources:
- Midnight (Karazhan), Ashes of Al'ar (The Eye), Reins of the Raven Lord (Sethekk Halls), Swift White Hawkstrider (Magisters' Terrace), Invincible (Icecrown Citadel), Mimiron's Head (Ulduar), Al'ar (The Eye), Infinite Timereaver (Stratholme)
Achievements (20–30 mounts)
Mounts for raid, dungeon and world event meta-achievements. Examples: "Glory of the Hero" from various expansions, "Glory of the Raider" and similar.
World Events (15–20 mounts)
Seasonal holidays offer unique mounts: The Horseman's Reins (Hallow's End), Big Love Rocket (Love is in the Air), Lunar Festival and Pirates' Day mounts.
Trading Post (10–15 mounts)
New mounts appear in the Trading Post every month. Check the assortment regularly.
Rare Mobs and Treasures (15–25 mounts)
The open world of each expansion contains rare enemies that drop mounts either guaranteed or with a small chance.
Professions (10–15 mounts)
Engineering, Tailoring, Leatherworking and Jewelcrafting let you craft mounts. Some of them are sold at the auction house.
PvP (10–15 mounts)
Mounts for honor, conquest and rated achievements. Some mounts are available through the vendor for the honor currency.
Blizzard Shop and Promotions (5–10 mounts)
A few mounts are available through the in-game shop, promotions and collector's editions.
Mount Features
Steady Flight Only
The Otterworldly Ottuk Carrier does not support dynamic flight. If you have dynamic flight mode activated, the mount will not be able to take off. To fly on this ottuk, you need to switch to steady flight through the mount menu.
Aquatic Abilities
The mount has increased swim speed (+100%), which makes it a full-fledged aquatic means of transport. You can mount up underwater and transition from swimming to flying without switching mounts.
Mount Equipment
Unlike most aquatic mounts, the Otterworldly Ottuk Carrier is compatible with mount equipment. You can install Inflatable Mount Shoes for walking on water, Anti-Drought Mount Shoes or any other equipment.
Tips
1
Pick a "main" character for the count — the achievement counts mounts available to a single character. Class and faction mounts are credited only to the character who can use them. A Paladin or Warlock will get additional class mounts, easing the path to 500
2
Start with guaranteed sources — racial mounts, gold vendors and reputation give a predictable result. Leave random dungeon drops for later
3
Plan weekly runs — obtaining mounts from raids and dungeons is limited to one run per week per character. Make a list of bosses and run them every week on several characters
4
Use every expansion — don't fixate on a single expansion. Spread your effort across all content eras: from The Burning Crusade to The War Within
5
Track progress with an addon — the SimpleArmory and AllTheThings addons help you see which mounts you haven't collected yet and where to get them
6
Take part in world events — seasonal holidays add unique mounts that cannot be obtained at any other time of year. Don't miss them
7
Check the Trading Post monthly — new mounts appear every month. Stock up on Trader's Tender in advance
8
Account for the flight restriction — if you prefer dynamic flight, remember that this mount supports only steady flight at 310% speed. For everyday travel you may need another mount
9
Farm on fast classes — Demon Hunter, Druid, Monk and Hunter are best suited for clearing old dungeons and raids thanks to their high movement speed
