Overview

Pandaren Kite String

Pandaren Kite is a flying mount for Horde players, built in the shape of a huge red paper kite. The item debuted in the Mists of Pandaria expansion (patch 5.0.4) and to this day remains one of the most recognizable calling cards of Pandaria: your character literally soars while holding onto a kite string.

The mount arrives via an automatic in-game letter from Lorewalker Cho right after you complete the Pandaren Ambassador achievement. The achievement requires reaching Revered with nine Pandaria factions — this is the main path to the mount. In Midnight, all of Pandaria's content is soloable, and dailies are cleared in 1–2 hits, so the whole task comes down to patiently stockpiling reputation.

Why you want this mount

  • Unique model — a huge blue-and-white paper kite, unlike any other mount in the game. The Alliance color scheme sets it apart from the orc version, so you can keep both in your collection
  • High speed stats — +150%, +280%, or +310% flight speed depending on your riding skill. On the ground — +60% or +100%
  • Unlocks for all characters on the Alliance account — get it once, and all Alliance alts can use it
  • Collector's value — one of three kite mounts alongside the Horde red variant and the Jade Pandaren Kite, which is bought for 150,000 supporter tokens
  • The journey brings side rewards — while you farm Revered, you also pick up mounts from the Order of the Cloud Serpent, the Celestials, the Golden Lotus, and the Shado-Pan, plus transmog sets and profession recipes

Required factions

For the Pandaren Ambassador achievement, a Horde player needs to reach Revered with nine Pandaria factions:

# Faction Where to farm
1 Golden Lotus Vale of Eternal Blossoms — daily quests, scenarios
2 Shado-Pan Kun-Lai — daily quests at the Shado-Pan camp
3 Order of the Cloud Serpent The Jade Forest — daily quests + onyx eggs on the Windward Isle
4 The August Celestials The four temples of Pandaria — daily scenarios
5 The Klaxxi Dread Wastes — daily quests
6 The Lorewalkers Artifacts and scrolls all across Pandaria
7 The Tillers Valley of the Four Winds — Sunsong Ranch, dailies
8 The Anglers Krasarang Wilds — daily fishing quests
9 Huojin Pandaren Horde racial reputation — quests and honor medals

The Alliance version of the achievement differs by only one faction — instead of Huojin, it requires Tushui. That's why this mount can't simply be transferred between characters of different factions: you have to farm the reputation from scratch.

After reaching Revered with the ninth faction, the Pandaren Ambassador achievement is awarded automatically. Head to Stormwind and check your mail — Dafeng will send you the Pandaren Kite String

Optimizing the farm

Onyx eggs — the main accelerator

On the Windward Isle in the Jade Forest, around the Order of the Cloud Serpent area, onyx eggs are scattered about. Each one is turned in to Elder Anli and grants 500 Order of the Cloud Serpent reputation. There's no turn-in limit — you can farm any amount.

Once you reach Honored with the Order, buy the Grand Commendation of the Order of the Cloud Serpent for 100 gold. The item permanently doubles reputation rewards from all sources for all characters on the account — each egg then begins granting 1,000 reputation. Similar commendations exist for all key Pandaria factions — grab them as soon as the option opens up.

Friendship instead of reputation

Two factions on the list (The Tillers and The Anglers) work on a friendship system rather than classic reputation. Progress comes through personal quests for individual NPCs. This takes longer than grinding mobs, so bring them in during the very first days — dailies rotate and you can't skip them.

Scenarios and dailies

  • The daily scenario Blood in the Snow and similar Pandaria scenarios grant up to 1,000 reputation with the Celestials
  • Golden Lotus dailies — 4–5 quests a day worth roughly 250 reputation each
  • Shado-Pan dailies — about 6 quests at the camp in the Kun-Lai highlands
  • At level 80, all enemies in dailies die in 1–2 hits, so the physical clear takes minutes

Huojin Pandaren — the longest stage

This racial reputation doesn't offer dailies in the usual sense. The fastest methods:

  • Honor medals from battlegrounds — one medal = Huojin reputation
  • Huojin Banner on battlegrounds — a consumable that boosts your faction's reputation on a win
  • Mass completion of old Pandaria quests on a fresh Horde Pandaren alt

If you already have a Horde Pandaren character with partially leveled Huojin reputation — use that one, so you don't start the reputation from zero.

Tips

1

Start with the Order of the Cloud Serpent — its quests open first and along the way grant the free Azure Cloud Serpent mount. Onyx eggs are the fastest way to rack up reputation in the game

2

Play a Pandaren hunter or druid — high movement speed speeds up the rotation of dailies across all of Pandaria by 2–3 times. A Pandaren starts with a 300% reputation gain bonus for the first 8 hours of play (the Bountiful Feast Rested buff)

3

Don't forget the Lorewalkers — it's the most neglected faction on the list. Scrolls and artifacts are scattered all over Pandaria, and some require climbing into hard-to-reach places. Start this farm on day one, in parallel with the rest of your dailies

4

Check your mail after earning the achievement — the String arrives via an automatic letter from Lorewalker Cho with the text: "Accept this token of our gratitude, and know that you are always a welcome guest in Pandaria." If the letter doesn't arrive, log back in or visit a mailbox in Orgrimmar

5

The mount is account-wide — once obtained on one character, it unlocks in the mount collection of all Horde characters on the account. It does not extend to Alliance characters — they need a separate item_spellcloththreadPandaren Kite String (Alliance)

6

The journey takes 3–6 weeks — playing 1–2 hours a day and regularly completing dailies. Onyx eggs cut the time significantly, but the Klaxxi, Huojin, and Lorewalkers still require patience
