Get Patient Bufonid mount

Patient Bufonid is a ground mount added to World of Warcraft in patch 9.2 "Eternity's End" of the Shadowlands expansion. It is a massive dark progenitor toad resembling the local fauna of Zereth Mortis. According to the lore, this species of bufonid can sit perfectly still for hours if left alone — and it is exactly this behavior that the mount's quest chain plays on.

The mount is granted as a reward for the final quest The Patient Bufonid — the last task in a weekly chain that begins with The Burrowed Bufonid. The entire chain is run by the broker Avna, who stands next to a pond at the Sanctum, around coordinates 34.3, 65.9. Each task repeats once per day and only appears after the daily reset, so the minimum farming time is seven in-game days.

• A unique toad model — at the time patch 9.2 launched, there were very few mounts of this class in the game. The dark purple coloring and glowing white-green veins make the bufonid visually recognizable among dozens of cookie-cutter mounts.
• A simple but lengthy chain — the tasks require minimal effort. Most of the materials you have either already gathered over the course of Shadowlands or can buy on the auction house for small sums.
• A guaranteed mount — unlike rare drops from raid bosses, the Patient Bufonid is granted with a 100% chance for turning in the last quest. Losing progress is impossible: skipping a day does not reset the chain.
• Account-wide — once obtained, the mount appears in the collection of all your characters, regardless of faction, class or level.
• A nod to the Zereth Mortis campaign — the chain is woven organically into the zone's story and gives you a reason to linger at the Sanctum after finishing the main storyline.

The goal is to complete the weekly chain The Burrowed Bufonid with Avna at the Sanctum, bringing her one specific item each day. The final quest The Patient Bufonid grants the mount itself.

1. Unlock access to Zereth Mortis and complete the first chapter of the "Secrets of the First Ones" campaign. Without this, Avna will not offer the starting quest.
2. Head to the Sanctum (coordinates roughly 34.3, 65.9) and talk to Avna. She stands near a pond that a bufonid refuses to climb out of.
3. Take the first quest of the chain and bring 15 units of Vespoid Honey. It drops from vespoids all across Zereth Mortis.
4. After the next daily reset, take the next quest from Avna and turn in the required item. Repeat the procedure every day.
5. On the seventh day you will be offered the final quest The Patient Bufonid. Turn it in — the mount will be added to your collection.

Each day Avna asks you to bring one specific item. The order is fixed, and skipping a day does not reset progress — you simply resume the chain from where you left off.

Day 1 — Vespoid Honey

Vespoid Honey drops from vespoid workers, drones and overburdened vespoids in Zereth Mortis. The swarms live near hives, with the densest clusters in the southern and southeastern parts of the zone. 15 units are gathered in 10–15 minutes, and the drop is steady.

Day 2 — Tenebrous Ribs

Tenebrous Ribs is a mass cooking ingredient that drops from beasts all over Shadowlands. The easiest way is to buy it on the auction house: the cost is usually low. If you farm it yourself, aim for the Bastion and Ardenweald zones, which have plenty of beasts.

Day 3 — Shrouded Cloth

Shrouded Cloth is the basic cloth of Shadowlands. 200 pieces sounds imposing, but if you have a tailor character, the material is gathered quickly in any zone of the expansion. The alternative is the auction house, where the price is trivial.

Day 4 — Elysian Thade

Elysian Thade is caught in the open waters of Shadowlands. If you do not want to spend time fishing, check the auction house — the fish is sold in sufficient quantities.

Day 5 — Protoflesh

Protoflesh drops from the wild fauna of Zereth Mortis and from rare creatures. Only 5 pieces — the easiest task of the whole chain. While you are at it, look for rare mobs in the zone; they often drop the ingredient along with reputation tokens.

Day 6 — Catalyzed Apple Pie

Catalyzed Apple Pie is sold by Mai Toa — a jiro merchant in Zereth Mortis who stands on a cliff west of Pilgrim's Rest (roughly 58, 49). The price per piece is low, and you will have no trouble buying it.

Day 7 — Organic Melon

Organic Melon is the only item for which you have to leave Zereth Mortis. It is sold by a fruit vendor at the entrance to the Tazavesh, the Veiled Market dungeon. You need the instanced version: go inside, and the vendor stands to the left right past the entrance, before the first group of enemies.

• Prepare materials in advance — Avna only announces the required item when she hands out the quest, but the list is fixed. Buy everything on the auction house in bulk on the very first day and turn it in instantly, without wasting time on a trip for materials.
• Don't skip a day without reason — skipping does not reset the chain, but it delays getting the mount by a day. Even a five-minute login to turn in the quest saves real time.
• Combine with Zereth Mortis dailies — the zone has rotating tasks from the Enlightened that are worth doing anyway for reputation and protoform synthesis resources. Combine them with your trip to Avna.
• For the melon, memorize the route to Tazavesh — from the teleport in Oribos, make your way to the dungeon entrance, create a solo group and step inside. The vendor is at the entrance; there is no need to run deeper.
• Use the auction house — most materials cost next to nothing, while farming the whole chain yourself takes hours. Turning in quests via the auction house is faster and more cost-effective.
• Mind your hearthstones — a hearthstone set to Oribos is handy for quickly returning to Shadowlands, while the teleport to Zereth Mortis unlocks directly after completing the first chapter of the campaign.
