Get Pestilent Necroray mount

Pestilent Necroray is a flying mount of the necroray (managuana) family, added to World of Warcraft in the Shadowlands expansion (patch 9.0.1). It is a large ray with rotting flesh, glowing patches of greenish plague, and tattered fins. Visually it reuses the managuana model, but with a unique plague coloration that nods to the aesthetic of the House of Plagues in Maldraxxus.

The mount is one of three possible variants that hatch from the Oozing Necroray Egg. The egg itself must first be obtained as a Necroray Egg from reward chests for the Necrolord Covenant's callings in Maldraxxus, and then carried in your bag for three real days before it transforms.

• Account-wide availability — once it drops, the mount is unlocked for all characters on the account, regardless of faction or chosen covenant.
• Collector's value — thanks to the extremely low egg drop chance and the random hatching outcome, the Pestilent Necroray remains one of the prestige mounts of the Shadowlands era.

The main path to the mount is weekly farming of callings in Maldraxxus for the Tribute of the Ambitious or Tribute of the Duty-Bound, which have a rare chance to contain the Necroray Egg.

1. Complete the Shadowlands story campaign and choose the Necrolord Covenant in Maldraxxus or any other covenant — callings are available to all four covenants.
2. Check your covenant's calling log daily and pick the ones that send you to Maldraxxus
3. Complete the calling and receive the reward chest — Tribute of the Ambitious or Tribute of the Duty-Bound.
4. Open the chest and check the contents. With a chance of around 1.5–3% it will contain the Necroray Egg.
5. Keep the egg in your bag for 3 real days without opening it. Once the time is up, it transforms into the Oozing Necroray Egg.
6. Open the oozing egg and receive one of three mounts at random: Pestilent Necroray, Bulbous Necroray, or Infested Necroray.

Opening the Oozing Necroray Egg gives one of three mounts at random. If you specifically want the Pestilent Necroray, be prepared for a different variant to drop — in which case you will have to repeat the cycle of obtaining and hatching a new egg.

Covenant affiliation does not affect the chance of getting a specific mount from the egg — the hatching result is purely random.

• Character level: 60 to complete Maldraxxus and unlock callings, 70 and above at the current stage of The War Within
• Shadowlands campaign: a completed introductory Shadowlands storyline and the covenant introduction on your character
• Access to callings: unlocked after completing the "Choosing Your Purpose" chapter in any covenant
• Riding skill: basic level for ground travel, Expert Riding for flight
• Free bag space: the egg takes up one slot for all 3 days of hatching — plan your inventory ahead

Callings automatically teleport you to the required zone, but you can also reach Maldraxxus directly for additional goals.

1. Open the Shadowlands map from the capital Oribos and hover over Maldraxxus
2. Use the flight points in Oribos or your covenant hearthstone to return to the covenant base
3. For Necrolord Covenant players, the main entry point is Seat of the Primus in northern Maldraxxus — the callings table and the Undying Army quartermaster are here

Daily cycle

Callings refresh every day, and they send you to Maldraxxus on average once every 4–5 days. This means obtaining the Necroray Egg stretches out over months even with perfect daily completion.

1. Check the calling log every day on all available characters.
2. Save active callings in Maldraxxus — they last 3 days, and you can stack several at once.
3. Complete a calling in 20–40 minutes depending on the quest type: clear rare enemies, dungeons, anima quests, or weekly zone activities.
4. Open the Tribute of the Ambitious or Tribute of the Duty-Bound right away and check for the egg.

Multi-farming on alts

The more characters with an active covenant and a completed Shadowlands campaign, the higher your chance to get the egg per week.

• Bring 2–4 alts to level 60 and choose a covenant on each
• Set up a daily rotation: spend 20–30 minutes on each character on a Maldraxxus calling
• Focus only on Maldraxxus callings — the Necroray Egg does not drop in other zones

Parallel goals

While farming callings in Maldraxxus, you simultaneously build up reputation with the Undying Army, level up your soulbinds, and gain gear, anima, and covenant resources. This makes farming the mount less tedious even during a long streak of unlucky chest openings.
