Get Phalynx of Loyalty mount

Phalynx of Loyalty is an epic ground mount added in patch 9.0.1 of the Shadowlands expansion. It is a dark-colored mechanical lion construct, created by the stewards of Bastion. Phalynxes are artificial beings powered by anima that serve the Kyrian as loyal companions and mounts.

The mount is obtained through the Path of Ascension system — a unique mechanic of the Kyrian covenant. To get it, you need to defeat Mad Mortimer on the "Loyalty" difficulty in the Coliseum of Ascension, located in the Elysian Hold.

The item description reads: "Some of the Ascended keep phalynxes as pets. They don't have the luxurious mane of a larion, but at least they don't try to eat the other pets."

• Unique model — the Phalynx of Loyalty is a black mechanical lion. The model differs from ordinary beast mounts and emphasizes its ties to the Kyrian.

• A test of skill — the Path of Ascension is unconventional content in which you control a companion rather than your own character. Obtaining this mount demonstrates your mastery.

The Phalynx of Loyalty is awarded for defeating Mad Mortimer on the "Loyalty" difficulty (2nd of 4) in the Path of Ascension. Below is the full path from start to obtaining the mount.

1. Join the Kyrian covenant. The Path of Ascension is an exclusive system of this covenant, available only to its members.
2. Unlock the Path of Ascension in the Elysian Hold — the sanctum of the Kyrian covenant in Bastion.
3. Build the Path of Ascension at level 1.
4. Build the Path of Ascension at level 2 (cost: 5,000 anima and 12 souls, build time — 12 hours). Level 2 specifically unlocks access to Loyalty challenges.
5. Unlock the Mad Mortimer fight — to do this you first need to open it on the "Courage" difficulty by defeating the previous opponents.
6. Defeat Mad Mortimer on "Courage" (1st difficulty level).
7. After that, the Mad Mortimer challenge on the "Loyalty" level opens. Win it — and the mount is yours.

The Path of Ascension is an arena in which you send one of your companions to battle opponents. You don't control your own character directly — instead, you control a companion (Pelagos, Kleia, or Forgelite Prime Mikanikos), using their abilities.

The system features 10 opponents and 4 difficulty levels:

• Courage — the base level
• Loyalty — increased health and damage on the opponent
• Wisdom — new opponent abilities are added
• Humility — maximum difficulty with a time limit

Before the fight, you choose a companion and equip them with enchantments and memories — consumable items crafted from materials gathered across the Shadowlands.

Upgrade costs

Level 2 is enough to obtain the Phalynx of Loyalty.

Mad Mortimer is one of the 10 opponents of the Path of Ascension. On the "Loyalty" level his health and damage dealt are increased compared to the base "Courage" level.

Fight mechanics

The fight is against three forms that share a common health pool:

• Ortimer (red) — the aggressive form
• Imer (green) — the charging form
• Mort (blue) — the defensive form

All three forms are present on the arena at the same time. Your task is to skillfully manage damage across all three using your companion's abilities.

Recommended companion

For the fight on the "Loyalty" level, Pelagos is recommended. His ability set:

• Trial of Faith — the main strike
• Disciple's Shackles — interrupts Imer's charges and controls opponents
• Memory Encounter — healing
• Release — a powerful AoE area attack

Tactics

1. Use Disciple's Shackles to interrupt Imer's charges (green) — this is critically important for survival.
2. Try to gather all three forms together and deal area damage with Release.
3. Watch the stacks of the "Unstable Stimulant" debuff — at 10 stacks "Fiery Veins" triggers, increasing your damage.
4. Use the Flask of Serenity to restore health at critical moments.
5. Don't let the forms scatter across the arena — try to keep the fight compact.

After obtaining the base Phalynx of Loyalty, you can continue leveling the Path of Ascension and purchase the Eternal Phalynx of Loyalty — the armored version of the mount.

Requirements for purchase:

• The Loyal Quests achievement — you need to complete certain fights on the "Wisdom" level.
• Path of Ascension at level 4.
• 2,500 Reservoir Anima.
