Overview

Pinto

Game iconPinto is an entry-level ground mount for the Alliance, added back in World of Warcraft Classic in 2004. It is one of the four classic horses of Stormwind's humans: a calm white-and-brown horse with the concise flavor text "Its calm temperament makes it ideal for children learning to ride." In the current patch 11.1 of The War Within expansion, the item remains in the game unchanged and is available to any Alliance character starting at level 10.

At the maximum level of 80, the Pinto is perceived not so much as transport but as a collection item: players buy it for the Cavalry Commander achievement and mount-collecting meta-achievements. Obtaining it takes five minutes and costs exactly 1 gold coin — provided your character is human or has earned Exalted reputation with Stormwind.

Why you want this mount

  • A cheap checkmark in the mount collection. The Game iconPinto Bridle costs 1 gold coin and unlocks instantly — it is one of the easiest ways to add one to your collection counter on a new character
  • Progress toward the Cavalry Commander achievement — you need to collect 50 mounts on a single character. The four classic Stormwind horses (pinto, chestnut, palomino, black) close out 4 entries on the list at once.
  • Human racial collection. Along with the pinto, the same vendor offers the Game iconChestnut Mare Bridle, the Game iconBay Mare Bridle and the Game iconBlack Stallion Bridle — all for 1 gold each. They are convenient to collect in one trip.
  • Account-wide access. After learning, the mount immediately appears in the collection on all characters of the same game account and the Alliance faction.
  • A ground mount at early levels. If you are leveling an alt without expansions and without account-wide family mounts, the pinto gives +60% movement speed as early as level 10 for a symbolic price.

Requirements

Parameter Value
Minimum level 10
Riding skill Apprentice Riding
Price 1 gold coin
Faction Alliance only
Race Human — no restrictions. Other Alliance races — Exalted with Stormwind required
Type Ground
Speed +60% (with Apprentice Riding)
Binding Binds when picked up
Item ID 2414

If you do not play a human, you will first have to raise your reputation with Stormwind to Exalted. The fastest way to do this is by wearing the Game iconStormwind Tabard in heroic dungeons of older expansions and completing weekly city quests in Stormwind itself.

Where to buy the Pinto Bridle

In the current version of World of Warcraft the item is sold by two reliable vendors — both belong to the Stormwind faction and both are located near Stormwind. Both trade in the same assortment of classic horses.

Katie Hunter — Elwynn Forest

Katie Hunter is a horse breeder from Eastvale in Elwynn Forest. She stands by the stables next to Randal Hunter, the riding trainer.

/way Elwynn Forest 84.2 65.4 Katie Hunter — horse vendor

Step by step:

  1. Take a portal to Stormwind or use your hearthstone.
  2. Exit through the Eastern Gate of Old Town and head down the road east toward Eastvale.
  3. At the stables on the northern edge of the camp stand the two Hunters. Randal teaches riding, Katie sells the horses themselves.
  4. Open trade with Katie Hunter and buy the Game iconPinto Bridle for 1 gold coin.

This route is optimal for a fresh character: while you are there, you can also learn Apprentice Riding from Randal for the same 4 gold.

Katie Stokes — Stormwind, Old Town

Katie Stokes is the second horse trader, working right in Stormwind itself, in the Old Town district. Convenient if you are already in the city and do not want to fly to Elwynn Forest.

/way Stormwind 77.0 67.8 Katie Stokes — racial horse vendor

To get there:

  1. Teleport to Stormwind
  2. Walk into Old Town through the arch on the east side of the Trade District
  3. Katie stands in an open square next to the SI:7 headquarters building, opposite the public stables
  4. Open trade and select the Game iconPinto Bridle

Katie Stokes is recommended as the main option in 2026: she alone sells the full set of human racial horses — all four basic horses for 1 gold and all three fast horses for 10 gold each. In a single visit you can close out the entire "human" section of the collection.

Historical vendors

In Classic this same item was sold by Unger Statforth in Menethil Harbor (Wetlands) and Gregor MacVince on the Isle of Theramore. After the destruction of Theramore during the events of Mists of Pandaria, Gregor's status is unclear, so in 2026 you should not rely on him — go to Katie Stokes or Katie Hunter.

How to learn riding

To use the Game iconPinto Bridle, a character needs the Game iconApprentice Riding skill. It is taught by the very same Randal Hunter near Eastvale. Requirements as of 2026:

  • Minimum character level — 10
  • Training cost — 4 gold (with a reputation discount)
  • For races other than human — Exalted with Stormwind

Activating the mount happens automatically: after buying the bridle, click it in your bag once to add it to the collection, after which the item can be deleted.

Collection of classic human horses

If you came for the pinto — grab the rest while you're at it. All four cost one gold coin each and differ only in the model's coloring. The table below lists all the basic bridles sold by Katie Hunter and Katie Stokes.

Mount Item Price
Pinto Game iconPinto Bridle 1 g
Chestnut Mare Game iconChestnut Mare Bridle 1 g
Bay Mare Game iconBay Mare Bridle 1 g
Black Stallion Game iconBlack Stallion Bridle 1 g

All four items bind when picked up and are added to the shared mount collection — on your second human character you do not need to repeat the purchase.

Tips

1

Buy all four horses at once. For four gold you get +4 to your mount counter and noticeably advance the Cavalry Commander achievement. At low levels this is the cheapest way to build up your collection.

2

Fast horses are sold separately. The same Katie Stokes and Katie Hunter have a "fast" line of human horses for 10 gold — the ability_mount_ridinghorseSwift Palomino, the ability_mount_ridinghorseSwift White Steed and others. They give +100% speed with Journeyman Riding and require level 40.

3

For non-humans there's no point farming reputation specifically for this mount. It's more time-efficient to reach Exalted along the way — via a tabard in dungeons or through Stormwind's story quests.

4

For newcomers on alts. If you already have at least one mount on your account, you can fly for free through the Chromie Time system, and buying the pinto makes sense only for the collection, not as transport.

5

Katie Stokes is more convenient for completing the collection. She carries all seven human horses at once; Katie Hunter does not have the ability_mount_ridinghorseBlack Stallion Bridle. If you want to close out the human race in one visit — go to Katie Stokes.

6

The mount requires no story quests. Unlike most modern mounts, the pinto is not tied to expansion campaigns — level 10, Apprentice Riding and one gold coin are enough.
