Pond Nettle
Overview

Pond Nettle is an epic aquatic mount added in patch 7.3.0 of the Legion expansion. It is a mysterious creature from the hellish squid family that dwells in the fel-infested waters of Argus. The mount is obtained exclusively through fishing in the Krokuun and Antoran Wastes zones.
The Pond Nettle is a semi-transparent olive-green jellyfish with long tentacles. It belongs to the same model family as the
Fathom Dweller, but is distinguished by its characteristic swampy hue. The mount journal description reads: "This remarkable aquatic creature is able to survive in the harshest of conditions; perhaps even in the vacuum of space."
Why You Want This Mount
- Rarity — the Pond Nettle is one of the rarest mounts in the game. The drop chance is less than 0.1%, and not every player is willing to invest the time required to obtain it. Owning this mount speaks to your dedication.
- Unique appearance — a semi-transparent jellyfish with shimmering tentacles looks striking in any underwater setting. The helsquid model is found on only a handful of mounts in the game.
- Simple requirements — you don't need reputation, special quests or a high Fishing skill to start farming. All you need is access to Argus and a fishing pole.
- Available to all characters — once obtained, the mount becomes available on every character on your account.
- Collection value — the Pond Nettle counts toward mount-collecting achievements and is highly prized among collectors.
How to Obtain
The Pond Nettle is acquired through fishing in the fel-infested waters of Argus. To do so, you need to complete the following steps.
- Unlock access to Argus. Pick up the starting quest "The Hand of Fate" (Horde) or "The Burning Frontier" (Alliance) from Khadgar in Dalaran on the Broken Isles. The quest is available from level 45 in the Chromie scaling system.
- Complete the introductory quest chain to unlock the Krokuun and Antoran Wastes zones.
- Find a body of fel-infested water — such pools are easy to recognize by their characteristic greenish glow.
- Equip your fishing pole and start fishing. Each successful cast has an extremely small chance of catching a
Pond Nettle. - Use the item you receive to learn the mount.
Where to Fish
The Pond Nettle is caught from open, fel-infested water in two Argus zones. Look for pools with a greenish glow — these are the suitable fishing spots.
Antoran Wastes
The best farming spot is Vanguard's Hope. This is a safe location next to the portal, situated in a sheltered area. Here you are protected from the bombardment of the Burning Legion's flagship (the Paraxis) and from aggressive enemies. You can fish in peace for long periods without interruption.
A second suitable spot is the Crucible of Souls, which also has fel-tainted pools.
Krokuun
Krokuun also has fel-infested pools suitable for fishing. However, this zone is less convenient due to the presence of aggressive enemies near most of the pools.
Farming Optimization
Preparation
- Level 80 character — at max level in The War Within, you will dispatch any enemy on Argus in a single blow if it interferes with your fishing.
- Fishing pole with bonuses — use a fishing pole with the highest bonus to Fishing skill. The higher the skill, the less often the fish escapes the hook, and the more efficient each cast.
- Bait and lures — apply any available lures that increase Fishing skill. They raise the percentage of successful bites.
- Fishing addons — install the Fishing Buddy addon or a similar one. It automates the double-click on the bobber and significantly speeds up the farm.
Strategy
- Head to Vanguard's Hope (Antoran Wastes) via the portal on the Vindicaar.
- Stand at the edge of the pool in a safe spot.
- Start fishing after applying a lure beforehand.
- Plan for long sessions — with a drop chance of around 0.03%, you may need anywhere from 3,000 to 10,000 casts.
- Each cast takes roughly 15–30 seconds, so over an hour you will make about 120–200 casts.
- On average, the farm can take anywhere from 15 to 80 hours of pure fishing time.
Side Loot
While fishing for the Pond Nettle, you will also come across other items:
- Various fish
- Items to sell to a vendor
- Rare materials
Tips
Vanguard's Hope is the best spot — this is where it's recommended to do the bulk of your farming. The location is safe, the pool is right next to the portal, and you won't be distracted by enemies.
Fishing skill is not critical — you can start fishing with minimal skill. Special Legion fishing skills are not required to obtain the mount. However, a higher skill reduces the number of failed casts.
Fish in parallel — farming the Pond Nettle is ideal for combining with other activities: watching videos, waiting in a dungeon queue or chatting in the guild.
Don't lose hope — the drop chance is the same for every cast. Even if you haven't caught the mount after 5,000 casts, the next cast has the same probability.
A water-only mount — keep in mind that the Pond Nettle is used exclusively underwater. It does not work on land or in the air. It is a collector's mount, perfect for underwater content.
Check the Rarity addon — the Rarity addon tracks the number of casts and shows statistics, which helps you gauge your progress and stay motivated.
Time of day and weather have no effect — the Pond Nettle's drop chance does not depend on the time of day or weather conditions in the game. Fish whenever it's convenient for you.
