Overview

Primal Molten Shortblade

Game iconPrimal Molten Shortblade is an epic-quality one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft with the Dragonflight expansion (patch 10.0.0). It is a crafted Blacksmithing weapon from the Primal Molten series — a line of items forged from the molten primal metal of the Dragon Isles.

The model keeps the fiery, industrial aesthetic typical of the series: a short, broad blade with a dark metallic finish and smoldering veins of molten metal running along the edge. The silhouette is compact and weighted at the base — the dagger looks more like a smith's cleaver than a slender stiletto.

The dagger carries Agility, so by armor type it suits rogues, and as a melee weapon it also fits druids, shamans, demon hunters and monks. The base item level of the craft is 70, while the final item level is set by the spark and additional reagents. For transmog only the unlocked model matters: once you obtain the item even once, you unlock the appearance forever.

Source

The Primal Molten Shortblade is a crafted weapon — you cannot loot it from a mob or buy it ready-made from a vendor. To get the model you need a Blacksmith with a leveled skill, or a player who places an order at the crafting table in Valdrakken.

Profession and specialization:

  • Requires Dragon Isles Blacksmithing skill of 25 or higher.
  • The recipe Game iconPlans: Primal Molten Shortblade does not drop in the world — it is learned automatically when you invest Knowledge points into the "Armory — Blades — Short Blades" specialization branch.
  • The "Blades" branch itself unlocks after 10 points invested in "Armory." Further points in "Short Blades" grant access to short-blade recipes and crafting bonuses when forging them.

Reagents:

  • 17 units of Game iconPrimal Molten Alloy — this alloy is smelted by Blacksmiths themselves from Dragon Isles ore.
  • 1 Game iconSpark of Ingenuity — a shared reagent for all of Dragonflight's epic crafting. Sparks are issued by the Engine of Innovation in Valdrakken after completing the corresponding quest chain.
  • A Blacksmith Hammer as a tool.
  • Optionally, additional reagents that raise the item level, set secondary stats, add a gem socket, or reinforce the finished blade.

The finished dagger becomes soulbound on pickup, meaning you cannot pass it to another player. If you don't have your own Blacksmith, place a crafting order: you hand the crafter the reagents and the spark, and they forge the item in your name.

Alternatives

The Primal Molten Shortblade model itself has no direct color variants in the game. However, the Primal Molten series includes a whole family of crafted blades and weapons with a related fiery, forge-themed style — they look great as a single set.

Weapon Type
Game iconPrimal Molten Spellblade Dagger (Intellect)
Game iconPrimal Molten Longsword One-handed sword
Game iconPrimal Molten Warglaive One-handed sword
Game iconPrimal Molten Mace One-handed mace
Game iconPrimal Molten Greataxe Two-handed axe

If you specifically need a compact dagger model, the closest "sibling" in the series is the Game iconPrimal Molten Spellblade: the same weapon type and the same molten finish, but designed for Intellect specializations.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Fits well into sets with a fiery, volcanic theme — armor with molten veins, smoldering embers and dark metal.
  • The dagger's dark metallic finish pairs with plate and mail sets in a black-and-orange palette.
  • Dual-wielding it with the Game iconPrimal Molten Spellblade gives a unified look for two-dagger builds.
  • The compact, weighted silhouette suits the look of a smith, miner or craftsman rather than a refined assassin.
  • It stands out against cold blue and icy sets — a debatable but memorable "fire versus ice" combination.

Tips

1

If you don't have Blacksmithing, look for a crafter through the crafting table in Valdrakken — a single crafted copy is enough to unlock the transmog.

2

When ordering, hand the Blacksmith your own inv_10_misc_titansspark_color1Spark of Ingenuity: sparks are personal, and the crafter cannot use someone else's.

3

For a pure transmog there's no point overpaying for a high item level — the model's appearance does not depend on the finished dagger's level.

4

All 17 units of inv_10_blacksmithing_craftedbar_primalmoltenalloyPrimal Molten Alloy are smelted by the Blacksmith from ore, so when ordering it's usually cheaper to provide the finished alloy or ore than to buy the blade on the auction house.

5

When leveling your own Blacksmith, invest Knowledge points into the "Short Blades" branch — it unlocks all short-blade recipes of the Primal Molten series at once.

6

Along with the dagger, this specialization branch grants access to the series' other blades — handy for collecting several models for your transmog collection at once.

7

The Primal Molten series belongs to Dragonflight and is permanently available — there's no rush to farm it, as the content is not seasonal.
