Purple Skeletal Warhorse

Purple Skeletal Warhorse is an epic ground mount of the Forsaken, one of three large skeletal warhorses sold by the Undercity. It is a massive bone steed in a violet-purple palette, with heavy battle harness and armor — a fallen knight raised from the dead together with his horse. The mount has been in the game since the original version of World of Warcraft and hasn't gone anywhere since: in Midnight it is simply purchased at level 17 without any additional quest chains.

The seller is Zachariah Post, a vendor of undead horses. After the destruction of the old Undercity during the Battle for Azeroth, his stall was moved to the ruins of Lordaeron in Tirisfal Glades. For a Forsaken character this is one of the simplest purchases in the mount collection, while the remaining Horde races will need exalted standing with the Undercity faction.

• Epic bone steed model — the warhorse variants of the skeletal horses are larger and more detailed than the basic ones, covered in decorative armor and looking imposing. The purple hue looks great on characters tied to dark magic: Shadow priests, warlocks, death knights and rogues
• One of the cheapest epic purchases in the game — just 10 gold for a mount of epic quality. For comparison, most other epics cost from 100 gold and up
• Adds to your mount collection — the mount counts toward the overall tally and helps you knock out the threshold achievements at 100, 200, 300 and more steeds
• The full set of skeletal warhorses — Zachariah Post simultaneously sells the Green Skeletal Warhorse and the Brown Skeletal Warhorse. While you are standing at his stall, it is convenient to immediately complete the whole trio for 30 gold
• A thematic mount for roleplay — for a Forsaken character this is one of the key signature steeds, fully matching the faction's lore. The Undercity raises not only its warriors but also their warhorses
• Access is kept across all characters — after first learning the Purple Skeletal Warhorse spell, the mount will appear in the shared collection and become available to all your Horde characters

The Forsaken vendor has seven steeds. The first four are basic low-level skeletal horses, the next three are the epic warhorse variants, to which the purple one belongs.

At max character level all of these mounts automatically adjust to your current riding skill, so the difference between the basic and warhorse steeds in 2026 is purely visual — the warhorse model is larger and more detailed.

For the undead race the mount is purchased directly, without any reputation prerequisites. The whole path fits into a few steps.

1. Save up 10 gold — in practice almost any character that has cleared at least the starting zone has this amount
2. Travel to Tirisfal Glades. The easiest way is to teleport to the Undercity through the portal in the Hall of Explorers in Orgrimmar — it will drop you right at the ruins of Lordaeron
3. From the exit point head northeast through the outer courtyard of the ruins. At the northeastern corner stands a tent with bone horses and the vendor himself
4. Find Zachariah Post and open the trade window. Among the offered goods select the Purple Skeletal Warhorse and confirm the purchase
5. Use the item to learn the mount spell. After that it will become available to all your Horde characters through the collection menu

For orcs, trolls, tauren, blood elves, goblins, pandaren, Highmountain tauren, Zandalari trolls, vulpera and other Horde races, access to the mount is locked until you earn exalted standing with the Undercity faction. Let's break down the fastest path in patch 11.1.

Step 1. Preparation

• The character is close to max level (90 in Midnight) — at 90 old content is killed in almost a single hit, and dungeons are run through in a few minutes
• Save up some gold for the Tabard of the Undercity and 10 gold for the mount itself
• If temporary reputation boosts are available (for example, holiday events like the Darkmoon Faire), activate them before entering the dungeons

Step 2. Get the Tabard of the Undercity

The Forsaken quartermaster Captain Donald Adams relocated to Orgrimmar after the destruction of the capital. You should look for him on the walls of Orgrimmar, above the city's main gate, at approximately [56.6 90.6]. The Undercity refugee camp is located there too. From him you buy the Tabard of the Undercity — which redirects reputation earned in dungeons to the Undercity faction.

If Donald Adams isn't visible at the spot, check whether you have completed the introductory quests of the old expansions. Sometimes the NPC is hidden behind phasing until your first meeting with the Forsaken in the main storyline.

Step 3. Farm reputation in dungeons

Put on the Tabard of the Undercity and run dungeons from The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King and Cataclysm on any difficulty. Every creature killed and every boss grants Undercity reputation while you wear the Tabard of the Undercity. At level 90 dungeons are completed solo in a few minutes.

An important limitation: the Tabard of the Undercity does not grant reputation in dungeons of its own expansion or in Midnight content. For fast farming use precisely the old dungeons.

Step 4. Buy the mount

After reaching exalted with the Undercity, return to Zachariah Post in Tirisfal Glades. Exalted status will remove the lock in the trade window, and you will be able to buy the Purple Skeletal Warhorse for 10 gold on par with undead characters.

The fastest path from Orgrimmar:

1. In Orgrimmar enter the Valley of Spirits and find the Hall of Explorers (the building with portals to the capitals)
2. Use the portal to the Undercity. It will transport you right to the ruins of Lordaeron
3. From the exit point move northeast through the outer courtyard of the ruins, along the fortress wall
4. At the northeastern corner of the ruins you will see a tent with bone horses and Zachariah Post next to it

Alternative ways to get there:

• Hearthstone to the Undercity — if your character has their main hearthstone set to the Forsaken capital, you will exit at the same point by the ruins
• Guild gathering banner — helps if someone from your guild is already standing next to the vendor
• Flight from Orgrimmar — the long option, but it works if the portal to the Undercity isn't activated for you yet

• Buy the whole set at once. The three epic skeletal warhorses cost a total of 30 gold and are unlocked at a single vendor. If you've come to Zachariah Post anyway, also pick up the Green and Brown Skeletal Warhorse — the collection gets three entries at once
• Don't confuse old coordinates from guides. In materials from the times of Wrath of the Lich King and Cataclysm, Zachariah is described in the village of Brill in the center of Tirisfal Glades. After the events of the Battle for Azeroth the NPC moved closer to the ruins of Lordaeron. The current spot is [66, 67], at the northeastern corner of the ruins
• The mount doesn't work on the Alliance. The vendor and the mount itself are tied to the Horde. An Alliance character has no way to get this steed even through reputation — you will need to create a Horde character and farm exalted there
• Farm reputation in parallel with other capital mounts. If you plan to collect all the racial Horde steeds, it is more convenient to run the dungeon cycle once and swap tabards: first the Tabard of the Undercity, then the Tabard of Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff and Silvermoon City. This way a single run through the old dungeons closes out several factions in a row
• Check your collection before buying. If one of your characters already learned this mount earlier, the spell is kept in the shared collection and a repeat purchase isn't needed. Check the "Mounts" tab in the collections menu before heading to the vendor
• For a new Forsaken this is one of the first epic purchases. After obtaining the riding skill, a 10-gold mount is a great choice to immediately get an epic model instead of the ordinary single-color horse
