Overview

Pyrotechnic Needle-Dropper

Game iconPyrotechnic Needle-Dropper is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft in patch 11.1 of The War Within expansion. It is a short blade of goblin make from the second raid season: the model is done in the style of the Undermine cartel — brass plating, a rough grip and a distinctive sparking finish that nods to the pyrotechnics of its source boss. The dagger captures the recognizable "goblin" silhouette of the season and fits well into looks built around machinery, explosives and dark bronze.

In terms of stats it is a weapon for dagger-using specializations: Rogues, Druids, Shamans, Warlocks, Mages, Priests. But from a collector's standpoint the dagger's value is purely visual — its appearance unlocks the first time you obtain the item and is then available to any character on the account through the wardrobe.

The item level is 92 in the base version; for transmogrification this number doesn't matter, only the look itself counts.

Source

The dagger drops from the third boss of the raid — Rik Reverb — in the Liberation of Undermine instance. Rik Reverb, a goblin promoter in the service of the Undermine cartel, zips around the arena on a flying sound resonator and stuns opponents with waves of sound.

  • The source of this appearance is a drop from Rik Reverb specifically on the Mythic difficulty of the raid.
  • The dagger's drop chance on Mythic is around 31 percent, a high value for a raid weapon.
  • The boss is available in difficulties: Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic and Mythic. This particular item is tied to Mythic difficulty; on easier difficulties the same fight drops look-alikes of a different quality.
  • The limit is one attempt per week per character within the standard weekly raid cycle.
  • The fight can be cleared either with a full group or with a reduced squad once the raid becomes outdated and its power threshold becomes manageable.

The raid entrance is in Undermine, by the inn at the center of the city. The fastest way to get there is through your faction's portal masters in Orgrimmar or Stormwind — they have a teleport straight to the instance entrance.

Alternatives

The dagger has direct recolors — weapons of the same goblin model of the season, but with a different color scheme. They are sold by the raid's appearance vendor for the internal currency of the "Gallagio Loyalty Rewards Club", which opens up as you build the cartel's reputation.

Dark finish "Gallagio Loyalty Rewards Club" appearance vendor Game icon Gallagio Raider's Darkfuse Shanker
Light finish "Gallagio Loyalty Rewards Club" appearance vendor Game icon Gallagio Raider's Blackwater Shanker

If you want this exact silhouette but can't down the boss, the recolors from the appearance vendor are the most reliable route: they don't depend on drop luck, only on building the cartel's reputation.

Who It Suits Visually

  • It harmonizes with the plate and mail sets of the Liberation of Undermine raid — a unified goblin style of the season: brass, rivets, dark metal.
  • It looks good in outfits with a bronze and copper palette — the dagger doesn't clash with the warm metallic range.
  • It suits "engineer", "smuggler", "saboteur" concepts — the reference to explosives and pyrotechnics reads in the model itself.
  • It contrasts with light cloth armor — a debatable but striking combination for those who build a look around the opposition of a rough weapon and light armor.
  • A paired set of this dagger and one of its recolors gives a symmetrical set for dual-blade specializations.

Tips

1

Mythic difficulty opens after clearing the fight on Heroic — plan your route in advance if you are going for this specific appearance.

2

When the raid becomes outdated with the release of the next season, Rik Reverb's power threshold will drop, and farming the appearance will become manageable with a small group or solo on a leveled character.

3

The appearance is saved to the wardrobe immediately upon obtaining the item — you do not have to equip the dagger to unlock the look.

4

Other raid items also drop from Rik Reverb, so a weekly run pays off even if this particular dagger does not drop that time.

5

If the silhouette matters and not the exact color — it is faster to grind "Gallagio Loyalty Rewards Club" reputation and buy a recolor from the appearance vendor than to farm the drop.

6

For specializations with paired daggers, take the base appearance and one of the recolors — that way both blades come together in a single set.

7

Check the weekly raid reset: the loot attempt at the boss refreshes once a week per character.
