Rathrak, the Poisonous Mind is a one-handed dagger from the Cataclysm expansion, added in patch 4.3. It is a caster weapon: its stats are built around intellect, so in the original game the dagger was wielded by priests, mages, warlocks, druids and shamans.
Visually it is a short blade in the aesthetic of the Dragon Soul raid. The edge is shaped like a claw or mandible with a swampy sheen that echoes the poison theme baked into its name. The hilt is massive and bone-like, covered in organic growths — the model clearly nods to the corruption of the Old Gods that saturated the final raid of the Cataclysm era. A fiery glow makes the dagger stand out even within a busy character silhouette.
For transmog collectors this is a recognizable "poisonous" blade: one of the few daggers of that period with a pronounced dark-green palette and a predatory silhouette.

The dagger drops from the final boss of the Dragon Soul raid — Deathwing. This fight closes out the Cataclysm storyline.
Key farming details:
- The dagger drops in three difficulty variants — Raid Finder, normal and heroic. All three share the same model and count toward the appearance collection.
- Dragon Soul has long since stopped being relevant as a gear source, so today people run it purely for transmog, mounts and achievements.
- At max level the raid is easily soloed on any class — bosses die in a matter of seconds.
How to reach the raid:
- The entrance to Dragon Soul is in the Caverns of Time in Tanaris. Descend into the main cavern and find the passage marked by burning trees — the Dragon Soul portal sits among the dungeon portals of that era.
- Raid Finder mode for old raids is not available through the automatic group finder interface — to enter it, walk up to the raid entrance in person and select the Raid Finder difficulty there.
- For guaranteed appearance farming, normal or heroic difficulty is more convenient: you enter your own raid and kill the boss directly, without waiting on a group.
Who it suits visually
- Pairs with the armor sets from the Dragon Soul raid — the dagger is built in the same artistic theme of Old God corruption and perfectly complements the tier sets of that era.
- Harmonizes with a dark-green, swampy palette — it looks great in looks built around poison, nature magic and warlock corruption.
- Fits naturally into cloth armor sets for priests, mages and warlocks — originally this is a weapon meant for cloth wearers.
- Suits rogues assembling grim "poisonous" looks: the blade's greenish glow contrasts nicely with dark leather sets.
- Contrasts with bright holy and paladin looks — a debatable but expressive pairing for those who want a sharp accent.
Tips
The fastest way to get the dagger is a solo run of the normal or heroic version of the raid: at current level Deathwing dies almost instantly.
The boss in the Dragon Soul raid can be killed once a week on each character, and the difficulty lockouts are separate — the normal and heroic versions do not block each other.
For the appearance collection a single drop is enough: once you obtain any of the three versions, the model is unlocked in your wardrobe forever.
If the dagger does not drop on the first try, start alternate characters — each one grants its own weekly chance at the drop.
In Raid Finder mode loot comes through personal loot, so your chance of getting the dagger does not depend on the other members of the group.
From this same raid it is worth farming mounts from the final bosses and tier sets in parallel — one run closes several collector goals at once.
On fast classes with good mobility a full clear loop through the raid takes only a few minutes, which is convenient for regular weekly farming.
