Reins of the Ravenous Black Gryphon

Reins of the Ravenous Black Gryphon is a flying mount added in patch 10.1.5 "Fractures in Time." It is a gryphon in a dark war coloring with distinctive crimson eyes and tattered plumage. The item description reads: "War has twisted these once-proud creatures. The rustle of their wings now whispers omens of imminent doom."

The mount is purchased with the Time Rift currency — Paracausal Flakes — from Warden Krizzik at the Tyrhold Reservoir (Thaldraszus). Although Dragonflight content is considered legacy, the Time Rifts are still active and farmable in Midnight.

The event takes place at the Tyrhold Reservoir in Thaldraszus on the Dragon Isles. The rifts appear every hour and last about 15 minutes.

To get here in TWW, use the portal to Valdrakken from your faction's capital, then fly southeast to the Tyrhold Reservoir.

Step 1 — Reach the Tyrhold Reservoir

1. Open the portal to Valdrakken (available in your faction's capital)
2. From Valdrakken, fly southeast into Thaldraszus, toward coordinates /way 51 57
3. You will see a large open platform with a portal in the center — this is the Tyrhold Reservoir

Step 2 — Participate in the Time Rifts

The Time Rifts are an open-world event that launches every hour. It consists of two phases:

Phase 1 — Clearing the rifts. Rifts with mobs from alternate realities appear across the area. Kill the mobs and complete personal and shared objectives. Each mob grants you 2 flakes, and each objective grants 30 flakes.

Phase 2 — Boss. After clearing the rifts, the boss "Sundered Causality" appears. Defeat it together with other players — its kill awards 150 flakes.

Step 3 — Complete the Weekly Quest

The NPC Soridormi at the Tyrhold Reservoir offers a weekly quest, "While Time Allows." Completing it rewards you with a Cache of Paracausal Energy, which contains 1,000 Paracausal Flakes and other rewards.

This is the most efficient source of flakes — take the quest every week.

Step 4 — Pick Up the Daily Quests

At the Tavern of Time, at coordinates /way #2025 52.54 81.57, daily quests are available. Each one grants 70 flakes.

Step 5 — Buy the Mount

Once you have accumulated 3,000 flakes, find Warden Krizzik at the Tyrhold Reservoir. She trades in items from the "Lands of War" reality. Buy the Reins of the Ravenous Black Gryphon and use them — the mount will appear in your collection.

The weekly quest is the priority. A single quest yields 1,000 flakes. In three weeks, with weekly quests alone, you will accumulate 3,000.

Daily quests. Each quest grants 70 flakes. If you complete 2-3 daily quests per day, you will rack up an extra 500-1,000 flakes over the week.

Active event farming. Participating in each event earns you roughly 300-500 flakes per hour (killing mobs + objectives + boss). Ideally, take part in the event while you wait out the cooldown.

Transferring between characters. Flakes can be sent to alts via the Box of Paracausal Energy, sold by Shi Everbreeze for 500 flakes. The box is account-bound and contains 500 flakes.

Realistic timelines:

• Weekly quests only: ~3 weeks
• Weekly + daily + a couple of events: ~1.5-2 weeks
• Active farming every day: ~1 week

Warden Krizzik sells the Reins of the Ravenous Black Gryphon only to Alliance characters. But there are two paths for the Horde:

1. A gift from an Alliance player. If an Alliance player gets a duplicate mount drop from the Time Rifts, they will be offered the option to give the Gift of the Ravenous Black Gryphon to a Horde player. Both characters must be near each other.

2. Farming on an Alliance alt. Create an Alliance character, level it to the required level, farm the flakes, and buy the mount. Since the mount is account-bound, it will become available on all your characters, including Horde ones.
