Overview

Cobalt Riding Talbuk

The Cobalt Riding Talbuk is a ground mount for the Horde, added to World of Warcraft with The Burning Crusade expansion (patch 2.0.1). It is a large horned talbuk with a gray-blue (cobalt) coat, decorated with the war harness of the orcish Mag'har tribe. The animal harkens back to the om'riggor rite, in which the uncorrupted orcs of Nagrand once hunted talbuks as a symbol of coming of age.

The mount is sold by Provisioner Nasela in the settlement of Garadar (Nagrand). The purchase requires Exalted standing with the Mag'har faction. The price is 70 gold. The item is available only to Horde characters: the Alliance has an equivalent of the same color from the Kurenai faction.

Why You Want This Mount

  • A unique talbuk model — the cobalt coloring with its vivid war harness appears only on the reputation mounts of the Mag'har and Kurenai. It looks striking in a collection and stands out among the Horde's standard wolves.
  • Part of a large Nagrand collectionProvisioner Nasela also sells seven more talbuks in different colors and styles. A single trip for Exalted unlocks eight mounts at once.
  • Reputation and collection achievements — reaching Exalted with the Mag'har grants progress toward the Outland reputation achievements, and every talbuk you buy increases your mount collection counter.
  • Account-wide — after the first purchase the mount becomes available to every character on your account, regardless of faction. The Alliance does not need to buy a duplicate.
  • Fast ground speed — the talbuk gains +60% or +100% movement speed depending on the riding skill you have learned, meaning it travels at the maximum ground-mount speed.

How to Get to Nagrand

Nagrand is located in Outland. You can get there in several ways:

  1. Open the map of Azeroth and use the portal in your capital to travel to Shattrath. Alternatively, use the Dalaran Hearthstone or a Shattrath Hearthstone if you have one.
  2. From Shattrath, use a flight master — the "Telaar" point is available to the Alliance, "Garadar" is available to the Horde. Horde players need to fly specifically to Garadar.
  3. If you do not have the flight point yet, leave Shattrath through the southern gate and fly west over the Spinebreaker Mountains toward Nagrand.

Step-by-Step Acquisition Guide

The whole process takes 2–4 hours at max character level, depending on how many quests you complete at the start.

Step 1. Unlock access to the Mag'har

The Horde initially starts at "Unfriendly" with the Mag'har, and the quests in Garadar are unavailable. To gain access, you need to complete a short chain on the Hellfire Peninsula:

  1. Fly to Thrallmar (the main Horde hub on the Hellfire Peninsula)
  2. Pick up the Mag'har quest chain from the local Mag'har envoy. The starting task is The Mag'har
  3. Complete the entire chain up to the quest that sends you to Garadar in Nagrand. After turning in the final task, your reputation rises to "Neutral" and the Mag'har's main quests open up

Step 2. Complete the Mag'har quests in Nagrand

There are about 30 Mag'har quests available in Nagrand. They let you raise reputation up to roughly "Revered". Take quests in Garadar and from key NPCs across the zone — they will cover most of the climb and provide some gold income along the way.

Step 3. Farm ogres and Obsidian Warbeads

The remaining distance from "Revered" to "Exalted" is fastest to close by farming ogres. All Nagrand ogres grant Mag'har reputation and have a chance to drop the Obsidian Warbeads, which are turned in for 500 reputation in stacks of 10 at the quartermaster in Garadar.

  • Each ogre killed grants ~10 reputation directly
  • 10 warbeads = +500 reputation when turned in
  • Kil'sorrow agents also grant reputation, but do not drop warbeads

Step 4. Buy the mount

  1. After reaching "Exalted", return to Garadar
  2. Find Provisioner Nasela in the southwestern part of the settlement, near a tent and a tethered talbuk (/way Nagrand 53.2 36.8)
  3. In her vendor window, select the Reins of the Cobalt Riding Talbuk and pay 70 gold
  4. Use the reins from your bags — the mount is added to the collection for all characters on your account

Where to Farm Ogres — Best Spots in Nagrand

The ogres in Nagrand are spread across several camps. All of them are suitable for farming reputation and warbeads; pick whichever is most convenient for your class.

Location Notes Approximate coordinates
Warmaul Hill The largest ogre camp, open ground, convenient for classes with strong AoE /way Nagrand 63 22
Laughing Skull Ruins No ranged enemies, melee only, good for classes with mass pulling /way Nagrand 42 26
Burning Blade Ruins Slightly lower-level ogres, quick kills, same warbead chance /way Nagrand 80 55
Northwind Cleft A cave north of Halaani, with a dense concentration of ogres /way Nagrand 49 22

Farming tips:

  • Clear a camp completely, then wait for respawns — ogres reappear every 2–3 minutes
  • Always loot every ogre: the warbeads bind on pickup and cannot be transferred to another character
  • Do not skip Kil'sorrow agents — they do not drop warbeads, but they trickle in reputation
  • Farming at a low level also earns the character experience, which is handy for leveling alts through old zones

Other Talbuks from Provisioner Nasela

Once you reach "Exalted", it makes sense to immediately buy the other seven mounts as well — you will not have to grind the reputation again. Provisioner Nasela offers:

The full set costs 680 gold in total. For a collector, it is a worthwhile investment — eight mounts for a single reputation grind.

Tips

1

Choose night hours for farming ogres — during peak hours the camps are picked clean by other players nearby, and respawns are noticeably slower. Early in the morning or at night you remove the competition and keep the full respawn cycle to yourself.

2

Do not turn in warbeads right away — accumulate them until "Friendly" with the Mag'har, after which turn-ins become available. At max level this opens up almost immediately after the Hellfire Peninsula chain.

3

Combine the farm with other Outland reputations — Kil'sorrow agents and ogres do not grant reputation with other factions, but while moving between camps you can finish off quests for the Sha'tar or the Reliquary along the way.

4

Use speed-boosting potions and food — Nagrand is large, and the flights between ogre camps take up a significant part of the farm. Any flight-speed boost speeds up the cycle.

5

It is convenient to set your hearthstone to Shattrath — this shortens the trip to Nasela between farming sessions and when buying mounts.

6

Remember it is account-wide — if you already obtained this mount from the Kurenai on an Alliance character, you do not need to buy it again from the Mag'har: it is already in the shared collection. In that case it makes sense to focus on the four war talbuks, which are not available on that side.
