Reins of the Silver War Talbuk
Overview

Reins of the Silver War Talbuk is an Alliance ground mount added to World of Warcraft with The Burning Crusade expansion. It is a large silver-white talbuk with massive curved horns and heavy battle harness, one of eight talbuk variants from the Kurenai faction. Unlike its "riding" counterparts, the "war" version wears an armored breastplate and leg protection, making it a popular choice for militaristic looks.
The mount is sold by Trader Narasu in Telaar (Nagrand, Outland) and requires Exalted reputation with the Kurenai faction. The faction is available only to Alliance characters — the Horde has a mirror chain through the Mag'har faction and the mount
Reins of the Silver War Talbuk, sold by Provisioner Nasela in Garadar. Visually both talbuks are identical, but each is tracked separately in the collection and requires its own faction.
In patch 11.1 the reputation and the mount itself remain fully available. All of Outland's content has long been soloable at max level 90, so grinding the reputation takes a few hours of relaxed play rather than weeks, as it did back in Burning Crusade.
Why you want this mount
- Unique model — silver war talbuks appear nowhere else in the game. The model is used only by the faction variants from Nagrand and looks great paired with heavy plate armor sets
- Part of a collection of eight talbuks — Trader Narasu sells four colors of war talbuks and four colors of riding talbuks. Only one reputation is needed, so a single Exalted with Kurenai unlocks the entire collection at once
- Account-wide — the mount is added to your whole account's collection as soon as you buy it. You can collect faction mounts of different colors even on a single character
- Mount collection achievements — the talbuk counts toward achievement progress
- Required for "Ambassador" — Exalted with Kurenai is part of the Ambassador achievement, which also requires Exalted with Sporeggar and Timbermaw Hold
Requirements and preparation
Before setting out for the mount, make sure the following conditions are met:
- An Alliance character of any class and race
- Level 40+ (a formality at max level)
Apprentice Riding skill learned- 100 gold to buy the mount
- Exalted reputation with the Kurenai faction
At level 90 with up-to-date gear, the entire farm happens with virtually no risk to your life — Nagrand's mobs automatically scale within the expansion and are killed in one or two button presses.
How to get to Nagrand
Nagrand is located in Outland; the easiest way to get there is from Shattrath:
- Open your map and use the portal to Shattrath from any Alliance capital. In Stormwind the right portal is located in the Mage Quarter
- In Shattrath itself, find the portal to Nagrand near the merchants of the Lower City
- Alternative: fly directly to Telaar from any known flight master in Outland
The main destination is Telaar, the central Kurenai town in southern Nagrand.
Step-by-step path to Exalted reputation
Kurenai reputation is gained through one-time quests in Zangarmarsh and Nagrand, as well as repeatable quests for turning in obsidian warbeads. No dungeon grants reputation with this faction, so the whole process is ground farming in Nagrand.
Step 1. Unlocking the faction in Zangarmarsh
- Fly to Zangarmarsh and head to Orebor Harborage — a small Kurenai settlement in the north of the zone
- Complete the introductory quests with the Kurenai at Orebor — they raise reputation from "Hostile" to "Neutral" and open access to Telaar
- Take the breadcrumb quest "Message to Telaar" and fly to Telaar — the town becomes available for all your quests, merchants, and flight masters
Step 2. Nagrand's main quests
In Nagrand, almost all Kurenai story chains grant reputation up to Honored and beyond — to Revered:
- The quest line in the center of Telaar at the Kurenai elders
- The "Wanted" line for killing rare enemies in the ogre zones
- Clearing the ogre camps of the Warmaul clan northeast of Telaar
- Quest series helping the Kurenai hunting camps around Halaa
Completing all one-time quests brings about 20,000 reputation — enough to come right up to Revered without repeatable tasks.
Step 3. Repeatable quest "Vile Familiars"
This is the key step. After reaching Friendly with Kurenai, take from Warden Mai'bff Jill in Telaar the quest "Vile Familiars", and then its repeatable version "More Warbeads". Each turn-in of 10
Obsidian Warbeads grants 500 reputation with Kurenai.
To go from Neutral to Exalted through beads alone would require roughly 840 beads (84 turn-ins of 10 each). In practice this number is lower thanks to reputation from quests and from killing the ogres themselves — each kill of a Warmaul or Boulderfist ogre grants another 10 reputation.
Step 4. Farming obsidian warbeads
The beads drop from Nagrand's ogres at roughly a 25–33% chance. The best farming spots:
- Warmaul Hill (around 31, 29) — the most popular spot, high density of Warmaul clan ogres, with a cave and open camps. Lets you run loops without downtime
- Laughing Skull Ruins (around 52, 74) — Laughing Skull clan ogres in the southwest of the map
- The Northwind Cleft and The Southwind Cleft — Boulderfist clan camps, compact spots for quick clears
- Burning Blade Ruins — another spot with Boulderfist ogres, convenient for loop routes
Step 5. Buying the mount
Once reputation reaches Exalted (42,000/42,000):
- Return to Telaar to Trader Narasu. He stands next to the inn, just below the flight point
- Open his trade dialogue
- Buy the Reins of the Silver War Talbuk for 100 gold
- The mount is instantly added to your entire account's collection
Farm optimization
Which class is easier
Collecting obsidian warbeads is equally comfortable on almost all level 80 classes — Nagrand's ogres have long fallen behind your character in power. But some classes work a bit faster:
- Demon Hunter, Windwalker Monk, Druid — thanks to mobile AoE abilities and fast dashes. They let you pull the whole Warmaul hut in one pass
- Retribution Paladin and Fury Warrior — instant kills of entire packs
- Rogue — not the fastest option for pure AoE, but stealth lets you slip past dangerous places and farm only the needed mobs
Optimal route
The classic loop around Warmaul Hill:
- Teleport with your hearthstone or fly in from the nearest Nagrand flight master
- Enter the upper part of the hill, pull 6–10 ogres, kill them with AoE abilities
- Descend into the cave, clear it completely
- Jump off the ledge to the outside, go around the hill, and repeat the cycle
- One loop takes about 3–4 minutes and yields 15–25 beads
In an hour of relaxed farming you can collect 300–500 beads, that is 30–50 turn-ins, which corresponds to 15,000–25,000 reputation with Kurenai.
Reputation accelerators
At max level in Midnight there are several general modifiers that noticeably speed up grinding old reputation:
- Human race — passively gets +10% to any faction reputation
- Event bonuses, when they are active in the calendar
Tips from an experienced player
- Collect all colors at once — having reached Exalted once, immediately buy all four war and all four riding Kurenai talbuks. A second attempt to grind the reputation for another color is a waste of time
- Decide in advance where to turn in the beads — Obsidian Warbeads are also used for reputation with The Consortium. If you need both the mount and Consortium reputation, distribute your turn-ins instead of giving everything to one faction
- Don't forget about other starting factions — if your goal is not only the mount but also the Ambassador achievement, plan the Timbermaw Hold, Sporeggar, and Kurenai grinds in parallel
- Don't run around Telaar on foot — use the Nagrand flight master or a mount with fast ground speed, and in suitable zones a flying mount, since flying in Outland is allowed from the very first level of riding
- Check your current reputation level via the "Reputation" tab in the character window — progress between quests and bead turn-ins is visible in real time and helps plan how much more you will need
- The Horde counterpart exists separately — if you have a Horde character and want the same talbuk on both sides, note that the Mag'har version requires separate reputation grinding and is added to the collection as a different mount

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
