Overview

Robble's Wobbly Staff

Robble's Wobbly Staff is a grey-quality two-handed staff that hails from the Cataclysm expansion. It is a plain wooden shaft with a crude tip, a typical "junk" item that players used to sell to vendors without a second glance. It has no combat value: 5–8 damage, 3.60 attack speed, requires level 28.

The appearance is what makes it interesting. Since patch 10.0.5, grey- and white-quality items bind on equip and save their look in the wardrobe — meaning even such an unremarkable staff can now be collected as a transmog. The model is tidy, neutral, with no glow or effects, so it suits the looks of simple wanderers, nature-themed druids and low-level mages.

The second reason to hunt for the staff is a pet. Robble's Wobbly Staff is one of the three items that Keeper Ta'hult in Oribos accepts in exchange for the battle pet Game iconRuby Baubleworm.

Source

Robble's Wobbly Staff is a world drop added in Cataclysm. It has no single guaranteed source: the item drops randomly from a wide variety of creatures of the appropriate level all over the world. One frequently mentioned source is the Lesser Gargoyle.

Key points for obtaining the appearance:

  • The item binds on equip, so it can be bought from other players at the auction house.
  • To unlock the appearance, the staff must be equipped at least once — after that the look stays in the wardrobe forever.
  • The character's level does not matter: at the current level 90 of Midnight, any old-world zone can be cleared with ease.
  • The most reliable method is searching the auction house: grey items are cheap, while farming the random drop takes longer.

Visual fit

  • Suits the looks of simple wanderers and hermits — neutral wood with no metal or magical glow.
  • Harmonizes with cloth sets in earthy and brown tones, without bright accents.
  • Fits "nature"-themed druids and shamans, where a bulky weapon clashes with the image.
  • Contrasts with heavy plate sets — a debatable but deliberately humble combination.

Tips

1

Check the auction house first: grey items usually cost mere coppers and save hours of farming.

2

If you farm by hand, hit ordinary mobs of the appropriate level — the world drop is not tied to any specific dungeon.

3

Equip the staff right after buying it to lock the appearance into the wardrobe before the item is used up.

4

If you are also collecting the Ruby Baubleworm pet, do not sell off the staff — it will be needed by Keeper Ta'hult in Oribos.

5

To buy the pet, keep all three grey items at once: the staff, the Gear with Ground Teeth and the Greater Unlucky Stone.

6

The appearance unlocks account-wide, so there is no need to collect it again on other characters.
