Overview

Royal Snapdragon

Game iconRoyal Snapdragon is an epic ground mount added in patch 8.2 of the Battle for Azeroth expansion. It is a dark-gray snapdragon — a predatory creature from the depths of Nazjatar, tamed by the naga for the hunt. The mount drops from a paragon cache (Game iconUnshackled Supplies for the Horde or Game iconAnkoan Supplies for the Alliance), which you receive for every 10,000 reputation points beyond the "Exalted" level with the Unshackled (Horde) or Waveblade Ankoan (Alliance) faction in Nazjatar.

The mount's description reads: "Caught young and raised to serve naga huntmasters, snapdragons make loyal and ferocious companions." Despite its aquatic origin, the mount provides no swim-speed bonus and is purely a ground mount.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Rare model — the Royal Snapdragon stands out from other snapdragon mounts with its unique dark-gray coloring. It is noticeably distinct from the rest of this family's variations
  • Collector's status — the mount drops from a paragon cache at a low chance, so having it in your collection signals serious work on Nazjatar reputation
  • Available to both factions — both the Horde and the Alliance can obtain this mount, each through their own Nazjatar faction
  • Available to all characters — once learned, the mount becomes available to every character on your account
  • Low riding requirement — using it requires only the "Apprentice Riding" skill, available from level 10

How to Obtain

The Royal Snapdragon drops from the paragon cache of the Nazjatar factions. The paragon system works as follows: after reaching the "Exalted" level, you keep accumulating reputation, and for every 10,000 points you receive a cache of rewards.

  1. Unlock access to Nazjatar by completing the introductory quest chain in patch 8.2. For the Horde, the starter quest is given by Nathanos Blightcaller; for the Alliance, by Genn Greymane
  2. Complete daily and world quests in Nazjatar to grind reputation with the Unshackled (Horde) or Waveblade Ankoan (Alliance)
  3. Reach the "Exalted" reputation level (42,000 points total from "Neutral")
  4. Keep earning reputation beyond Exalted — for every 10,000 points you will receive a paragon cache
  5. Open the cache and hope for luck — the Royal Snapdragon drops with a chance of about 5–10%
  6. If the mount does not drop, keep accumulating reputation for the next cache

How to Reach Nazjatar

Nazjatar is an underwater zone added in patch 8.2 "Rise of Azshara." To access it, you must complete the introductory quest chain.

First Visit

  1. Make sure your character has reached level 50 (or level 120 in the original BfA system)
  2. For the Horde: head to Zuldazar Port and speak with Nathanos Blightcaller on the ship. For the Alliance: head to Boralus and speak with Genn Greymane
  3. Accept the starter quest and follow the quest chain — you will be transported to Nazjatar
  4. Complete the introductory tasks to unlock your base of operations and world quests

Quick Access (After Unlocking)

Once the introductory chain is complete, a portal to Nazjatar appears:

  • Horde: the portal is located in the Port of Zuldazar (next to the other portals)
  • Alliance: the portal is located in Boralus (in the portal hall)

Grinding Reputation

To receive your first paragon cache, you must earn 52,000 reputation points (42,000 to Exalted + 10,000 beyond). The main sources are listed below.

Daily Quests (Main Source)

Several quests from your faction are available daily in Nazjatar. Each quest grants 75–150 reputation points. Complete all available quests every day.

World Quests

World quests in Nazjatar refresh regularly and grant reputation with your faction. Check the map several times a day.

Emissary Quests

When the Unshackled or Waveblade Ankoan emissary is active, complete four world quests of the corresponding faction and receive 1,500 reputation points.

Contracts

Use the Game iconContract: Ankoan (Alliance) or Game iconContract: Rustbolt Resistance (Horde). The contract grants an additional 10 reputation points for completing any world quest in any zone.

Additional Sources

  • Nazjatar story chain — a one-time large reputation bonus when completing the main quests
  • Follower missions — your companions in Nazjatar offer daily tasks rewarding reputation
  • Rare enemies and treasures — killing rare mobs and collecting treasures in Nazjatar grants a small amount of reputation
  • Weekly PvP quest — if you participate in PvP in Nazjatar, this is an additional reputation source

Reputation Boosters

  • Darkmoon Faire — ride the carousel before doing quests to gain the "WHEE!" buff (+10% reputation for 60 minutes)
  • World Quest Bonus Event — grants +50% to reputation earned from world quests during the event week
  • Banner of Cooperation — guild bonus of +10% reputation

Farming Optimization

Daily Plan

At max level, all of Nazjatar's content is completed quickly. The optimal order of actions:

  1. Check whether your Nazjatar faction's emissary is active — if so, prioritize that faction's world quests
  2. Complete all available world quests in Nazjatar
  3. Complete the daily tasks from companions at your base
  4. Kill rare enemies — they are marked with stars on the map
  5. Collect the available treasures
  6. Make sure the contract for your Nazjatar faction is active, and complete world quests in other zones for additional reputation

How Long It Takes

With active grinding, reaching Exalted takes roughly 2–3 weeks of daily play. After that, each paragon cache requires another 10,000 reputation points, which — when completing all quests daily — takes about 5–7 days. Given the 5–10% drop chance, you may need anywhere from 1 to 20 caches to obtain the mount.

The mount has its own coloring, but the base model is the same.

Tips

1

Don't skip a single day — reputation with the Nazjatar factions accumulates slowly, and every missed day pushes you further from a paragon cache. Try to complete quests daily

2

Use contracts — they work on all world quests in the game, not just Nazjatar ones. This is a substantial reputation boost if you play actively

3

Combine with the Darkmoon Faire — the "WHEE!" buff from the carousel lasts 60 minutes and increases reputation earned by 10%. Visit the faire before you start questing

4

Farm on multiple characters — paragon caches are not account-bound, but the mount is available to all characters once learned. Grind reputation on several characters simultaneously to increase the number of caches per week

5

Check emissaries — the emissary quest grants 1,500 reputation for four world quests. This is the most efficient reputation source for time spent

6

Don't get discouraged by bad luck — the drop chance is low, and many players have to open dozens of caches. Treat the grind as a marathon, not a sprint

7

The mount is account-bound — once learned, the Royal Snapdragon becomes available to all your characters regardless of faction

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
