Ruby Qiraji Resonating Crystal
Overview

Ruby Qiraji Resonating Crystal is a temporary ground mount for Horde players that summons the Red Qiraji Battle Tank. The item was added in patch 7.1.5 of the Legion expansion and is only available during the Call of the Scarab micro-event, held annually from January 21 to 23 to commemorate the assault on Ahn'Qiraj.
The mount's main quirk: it is not added to your collection and disappears from your bag 7 days after purchase. Essentially, it is a thematic souvenir of the event rather than a permanent mount. That is exactly why many collectors confuse it with the real Qiraji battle tanks from the Ahn'Qiraj raid — these are completely different items, even though they look alike.
The Alliance counterpart is the Sapphire Qiraji Resonating Crystal, which summons a blue tank and is sold by the Alliance commander at the same location.
Why You Want This Mount
- Unique event atmosphere — this is the only way to ride a Qiraji battle tank model outside the AQ40 raid. The ordinary red, blue, green and yellow tanks that drop from the mobs of the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj only work inside the raid
- A memorial to a great event — Call of the Scarab marks the opening of the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj back in January 2006. It is part of WoW's living history, one in which your faction takes part
- Thematic transmog for screenshots — the large red reaver beetle looks perfect on the wastes of Silithus and in the landscapes of any old-world content
- Minimal cost — the mount costs just 1 Abyssal Crest, which drops from Twilight mobs in literally 5–10 minutes of farming
- Available every year — if you missed the event this time, you can always come back on January 21 of the following year
Requirements and Prerequisites
- Minimum level: 10 (a formality, applicable to any character)
- Riding skill: Apprentice Riding
- Faction: Horde only
- Active event: the Call of the Scarab micro-event, January 21–23 each year
- Currency: 1 Abyssal Crest
- No special quests or reputation required
How to Obtain: Step by Step
- Wait for the Call of the Scarab event (annually January 21–23)
- Fly to Silithus — the nearest Horde flight point is Sun Rock Retreat, then fly south through Desolace, or use a portal/summoning stone to the Shattered World and head east
- Reach the Scarab Dais — the platform at the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj in the southeast of Silithus. Coordinates below
- Find the vendor Warlord Gorchuk — the commander of the Horde forces at the event
- Buy the Ruby Qiraji Resonating Crystal from him for 1 Abyssal Crest
- If you have no crests — first farm them at the Twilight camps in Silithus (see the section below)
- Use the crystal to summon the Red Qiraji Battle Tank — it will work for the next 7 days
How to Obtain Abyssal Crests
The Abyssal Crest is an old-world currency that drops from elite Twilight cultist mobs in Silithus. To buy the Ruby Crystal you only need a single crest, so farming takes a couple of minutes at most.
Where to Farm Crests
Crests drop from three types of elite Twilight mobs. Ordinary low-rank cultists do not drop crests — you need the elites specifically:
- Twilight Templars — the weakest elites, the main source of crests
- Twilight Princes — the next rank, drop less often but guarantee crests
- Twilight Lords — the rarest, summoned through special items
Twilight Camps in Silithus
The Twilight forces are scattered across three bases throughout Silithus:
- Twilight Base Camp — southwest of the zone, coordinates roughly 28, 91
- Twilight Outpost — center of the zone, around 50, 52
- Twilight Post — west, around 29, 67
Fly between the camps and kill every elite cultist you come across. At level 80 they all die in one or two hits. A single crest is enough for the crystal — you can fly straight to Gorchuk to make the purchase.
Features and Limitations
- The mount cannot be added to your collection. After you use the crystal, the Red Qiraji Battle Tank appears as a normal mount, but it is not recorded in the mount journal. It is strictly a temporary summon
- After 7 days the item disappears from your bag automatically. Once the event ends, you can only buy it again a year later
- The mount can be used outside Silithus too. Unlike the ordinary battle tanks from AQ40 that are bound to the raid, this mount works all over the world until its timer runs out
- A single character can buy only one mount per event cycle. But if you want to collect both color variants, a Horde character buys the Ruby one, and an Alliance character takes the Sapphire Qiraji Resonating Crystal from Marshal Snowfall
- The item is unique — you cannot keep more than one in your bag
Tips and Optimal Plan
- Mark January 21 on your calendar in advance. The event lasts only three days and is easy to miss if you don't keep an eye on micro-events
- Start farming crests on the very first day. Despite the crystal's low cost, in the final hours of the event crowds of players gather at the Scarab Dais and the mobs are not always spawned
- Arrive on a fast mount. The Twilight camps are scattered all over Silithus, and moving between them takes time — a flying mount greatly speeds up crest collection
- Farm crests on alts for future events. Surplus crests stay in your bag and are valued by old-world collectors — they can be spent on transmog items and the summoning items for the Abyssal Princes and Lords
- Don't mix up Gorchuk and Snowfall. They stand side by side at the Scarab Dais, but each trades only with their own faction. If your character is Horde, your vendor is Gorchuk only
- Hurry to use the crystal after buying it. The 7-day timer starts the moment you acquire it, so it's best to buy it on a day when you're ready to ride actively
- Treat this mount as a collector's rarity for screenshots. Since it does not go into your collection, there is no point farming it on several characters. Buy it once, take a ride, show your friends — mission accomplished
