Overview

Рунический клинок барона Ривендера

Game iconRuneblade of Baron Rivendare is a two-handed sword from the classic version of World of Warcraft, one of the most recognizable Scourge blades. It is a massive, straight sword with a broad blade etched with engraved runes that emit a cold greenish-blue glow — a nod to the undead and the power of the Scourge the baron serves.

The weapon model is dark and heavy: a black hilt, an angular guard, and a long blade with rune engravings. Thanks to its subdued glow, the sword looks great in death knight and Scourge warrior outfits while not being overloaded with unnecessary detail.

The item is of epic quality and has long been obsolete in terms of stats, so it is acquired purely for its appearance. It is a classic "old-school" trophy: collected by transmog enthusiasts and fans of undead themes.

Source

The Runeblade of Baron Rivendare drops from Baron Rivendare — the final undead boss in the Stratholme dungeon. This is outdated content from the classic version of the game, so it is farmed for transmog.

  • Source — Baron Rivendare, the last boss in the undead side of the dungeon (service entrance).
  • Difficulty — normal; this dungeon has no separate difficulty modes.
  • Drop chance — very low, around 1%, so farming can take many runs.
  • Limit — the dungeon can be cleared without restrictions, but there is a daily limit on the number of dungeon entries.
  • Group or solo — at the current maximum level (90 in the Midnight expansion), the dungeon is easily soloed on any class.

To reach the boss, enter Stratholme from the undead side (service entrance) and pass through the city quarters to the inner courtyard where Baron Rivendare resides. Stratholme is located in the north of the Eastern Plaguelands in the Eastern Kingdoms.

Alternatives

The Runeblade of Baron Rivendare has no known recolors — it is a unique classic model with a single appearance. There are no other color variants of this exact sword in the game.

If you need a similar two-handed sword silhouette in a dark runic style, look to Scourge- and death knight-themed weapons from Northrend dungeons and raids — they are designed in a similar cold palette and serve as good replacements for this blade in an outfit.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Fits perfectly into death knight and Scourge warrior outfits thanks to the rune engravings and cold greenish glow.
  • Harmonizes with dark plate sets in a black-and-steel palette with green accents.
  • Works as a "signature" weapon for an undead character or dark paladin.
  • Contrasts with bright holy sets — a controversial but expressive choice for the look of a fallen knight.

Tips

1

Because of the low drop chance, prepare for regular farming: run the dungeon every day until the sword drops.

2

The same Baron Rivendare also drops the ability_mount_undeadhorseDeathcharger's Reins mount, so it is convenient to farm the sword and the skeletal horse at the same time.

3

Enter specifically from the undead side (service entrance) — Baron Rivendare is not in the living side of the dungeon.

4

Keep the daily limit on dungeon entries in mind: if you plan many consecutive runs, alternate Stratholme with other locations.

5

For the fastest farming, any class with good area damage will do — the inner courtyard before the boss is filled with crowds of undead.

6

Check your transmog collection before entering: a duplicate blade will not be added to the collection, and there is no need to farm it a second time.
