Sandy Nightsaber

Sandy Nightsaber is a ground epic mount added in patch 8.3 "Visions of N'Zoth" of the Battle for Azeroth expansion. It is a pale sandy nightsaber with cream stripes and Kaldorei tack, one of five nightsaber models from the Battle for Darkshore warfront. Its flavor text reads: "An unusual coat for a nightsaber. These are rare and especially prized among the huntresses."

Unlike the other warfront nightsabers, this mount does not drop from a rare creature — it is purchased from faction provisioners for service medals: the Honorbound Service Medal for the Horde and the equivalent 7th Legion medals for the Alliance. This is the only warfront mount available to both factions: the model does not change based on the vendor's side, and once purchased the nightsaber appears in the collection of every character on the account, regardless of race or faction.

To acquire the mount you must meet a strict condition — win the heroic Battle for Darkshore warfront in a raid group. The heroic warfront still has no solo mode, so assembling a group of 10–20 players remains a mandatory step.

• Unique nightsaber coat — the sandy-cream coloring is not repeated in any other source. Collectors of feline mounts need this specimen for completeness
• One mount — two factions — the only one of the five warfront nightsabers that can be freely used on both Alliance and Horde without separate alts. Bought on one faction's side, it is available on characters of both
• Permanent source — unlike a rare drop from mobs, which you might wait weeks for due to chance and loot locks, this nightsaber is guaranteed yours once you meet the condition and accumulate the currency
• Maximum ground travel speed — +60% or +100% depending on riding skill, matching any epic ground mount
• Account-wide — after the first purchase the mount is unlocked on all characters from level 10 with the "Apprentice Riding" skill
• Legacy content, but not a legacy reward — the heroic Darkshore warfront is still being cleared by dedicated raids in 2026; the unique nightsaber reward remains relevant for collectors

Step-by-step route for a character of any faction:

1. Reach level 50 and complete the introductory Battle for Azeroth story campaign up to the "Zandalar Forever" chain (Horde) or "Tides of Vengeance" / "Kul Tiras Forever" (Alliance). Without this, access to warfronts and faction quests will not open
2. Complete the one-time "Battle for Darkshore" storyline — a series of introductory quests from patch 8.1. On the Horde it begins in Orgrimmar at the warfront table; on the Alliance, aboard the ship in Boralus Harbor. After finishing the line, the warfront cycles become available at the warfront table in your capital
3. Wait for the phase when the Battle for Darkshore warfront is open for your faction. You can check the cycle's state via the in-game "Missions" panel
4. Assemble a raid group of 10–20 players through the Group Finder. Without a raid, the queue for the heroic warfront will not activate: this is not an open dungeon but a scenario for a premade group
5. Approach the warfront table in your capital (Orgrimmar or Stormwind) and pick up the quest. Take the normal version as well — then a single run completes both quests and earns you more service medals
6. As raid leader, queue for the heroic scenario, defeat the enemy faction, and earn the achievement Heroic: War for the Shore. The achievement is not account-wide — you will have to repeat it on every character that wants to buy the mount
7. Accumulate 350 service medals (see the "Farming service medals" section below)
8. Fly to your faction's provisioner and buy the mount:
   • Horde — Provisioner Mukra in the Port of Zandalar (Zuldazar)
   • Alliance — Provisioner Stoutforge in Boralus Harbor (Tiragarde Sound)

After purchase, the nightsaber is learned automatically and becomes available on all characters of both factions from level 10.

The Battle for Darkshore warfront alternates with the Battle for Stromgarde (Arathi). The cycle consists of four phases and lasts roughly two weeks per faction:

1. Enemy contribution — the hostile faction donates resources, the heroic scenario is unavailable
2. Enemy assault — the enemy takes the warfront, your faction is not admitted to the scenario
3. Your faction's contribution — resources accumulate for a counterstrike
4. Your faction's assault and control — the warfront is open for assault, and it is during this phase that the heroic scenario and related quests are available

Key rules:

• The heroic scenario launches only during the assault phase — about one week out of two. Within that window you need to assemble a raid and clear it
• The achievement is tied to a specific character, not the account. On alts you will have to repeat the condition if you plan purchases for both factions' medals
• Faction service medals do not exchange between each other. On alts you must accumulate them separately

The heroic warfront grants a limited number of medals per cycle, so reaching 350 often requires using several sources:

The main accelerator is the heroic victory at Darkshore for 65 medals plus the parallel normal quest reward for 15 medals. Together with the weekly Arathi rewards (if your assault comes up in the cycle), over 2–3 active weeks it is realistic to gather the required 350 units.

Remember: the queue only goes through with a full raid group, so assembling a squad through the Group Finder is still mandatory.
