Sapphire Vorquin

Sapphire Vorquin is a ground mount added in the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight expansion alongside the arrival of a new race — the dracthyr. Vorquins are majestic bipedal steeds resembling refined horse-like creatures with an ornate mane and a noble bearing. The sapphire variety stands out with the deep blue color of its hide and is distinguished among the eight available vorquin variants by its cold, crystalline aesthetic.

The Sapphire Vorquin was added in patch 10.0.2 (November 15, 2022) and has since remained one of the most accessible collectible mounts in Dragonflight, if you know where to look.

• Unique model — vorquins have a distinctive bipedal silhouette, unlike any other ground steed in the game
• Tied to the dracthyr race — for a dracthyr character the mount is available immediately, with no reputation requirements, making it the ideal starter mount
• Part of a collection of eight vorquins — the Sapphire Vorquin is part of a set of eight color variations, and collectors often strive to gather them all
• Speed — the usual 30% on the ground without riding skill and 60/100% with riding skill; while traveling across the Dragon Isles the mount gains a flight speed bonus

There are two main ways to obtain the Sapphire Vorquin: through a quest reward (dracthyr only) or by purchasing from a vendor (available to all races who meet the conditions).

Method 1. Quest reward (dracthyr only)

If you play a dracthyr, you can get the mount for free in the race's starting zone:

1. Create a dracthyr evoker character
2. Complete the introductory campaign in the Forbidden Reach
3. At level 10 you will receive the quest Cavalry Has Its Place from Treysh
4. The quest teaches you how to ride a vorquin and offers a choice of one of four basic variations: Crimson, Sapphire, Obsidian, or Bronze
5. Choose the Sapphire Vorquin in the quest rewards

In addition to the mount, the quest also grants the Apprentice Riding skill for free, saving you the gold cost of training.

Method 2. Purchase from a vendor (all races)

After completing the quest, the remaining vorquin variants become available for purchase from vendors. Non-dracthyr characters can also buy the mount, but they must first earn Exalted reputation with the dracthyr faction of their side.

1. Level your character to 10 and acquire the riding skill
2. Reach Exalted reputation with the Obsidian Warders (Alliance) or the Dark Talons (Horde)
3. Head to one of the vendors: Treysh in the Forbidden Reach or Tethalash in Valdrakken
4. Purchase the Sapphire Vorquin for 40 gold

Tethalash in Valdrakken

Tethalash is the dracthyr quartermaster located in the Dragon Isles capital of Valdrakken. This is the main vorquin vendor for players who have already completed the starting zone or who play other races.

Valdrakken is the main hub of the Dragonflight expansion, and you can reach it in several ways: through a portal in Stormwind or Orgrimmar, via the Dragonriding paths, or via your hearthstone if you have it set to Valdrakken.

Treysh in the Forbidden Reach

Treysh is the first character the dracthyr meet in their starting zone. After completing the introductory campaign she becomes a quartermaster and offers the full range of vorquins.

• Coordinates: approximately 60.2, 52.8
• How to get there: through the dracthyr starting campaign or via a portal in Orgrimmar/Stormwind after your first visit

Reputation with the dracthyr factions became available to non-dracthyr in patch 10.0.7. Grinding it out can take several weeks with regular completion of weekly quests.

Main sources of reputation

1. Weekly quests in the Forbidden Reach — quests from the Obsidian Warders or the Dark Talons, which grant a significant amount of reputation points
2. Forbidden Reach events — periodic open-world events, such as the "Signal Fires" and hunting rare mobs
3. Reputation catalyst — using special items that speed up earning points
4. Repeatable quests — quests to kill mobs and collect items grant a small but steady amount of reputation

• Complete all daily and weekly quests in the Forbidden Reach
• Use reputation bonuses from the "Combat Report" (Darkmoon Faire) or other temporary events
• Keep an eye on in-game events that increase reputation gains
