Scarlet Helicid
Overview

Scarlet Helicid is an uncommon ground mount added to World of Warcraft with the release of patch 9.2 "Eternity's End" (February 22, 2022). It is a huge progenitor snail. The mount is created through the Protoform Synthesis system in Zereth Mortis and shares its model with three related helicids: the Bronze Helicid, the Serenade, and the Prototype Fleetstalker.
To craft the mount, you need to find the
Schematic: Scarlet Helicid on the Forge of Afterlives island, gather 350
Genesis Motes, obtain the
Revelation Key from a rare enemy, and acquire the
Helicid Lattice from the zone's snails, then complete the schematic reconstruction quest at the Protoform Synthesis forge.
Why you want this mount
- Bright, unique model — the vivid red shell stands out among the snail collection of Zereth Mortis and looks striking on any character
- Fully guaranteed way to obtain it — unlike many drop mounts, the Scarlet Helicid is crafted: gather the materials and the mount is in your collection, with no years of farming
- Account-wide access — once crafted, the mount appears on every character on your account regardless of faction
- Protoform Synthesis progression — along the way you unlock the other snail-shaped mounts and pets of this crafting section
- Speed 10 out of 10 — gains a +60% or +100% bonus to movement speed depending on your riding skill, matching the top speed of ground transport
How to obtain
To get the mount you must complete the 9.2 storyline up to unlocking Protoform Synthesis, gather all the components, and finish the craft at the special forge.
- Complete the Zereth Mortis story up to the end of the third chapter of the "Eternity's End" campaign and receive the Protoform Synthesis quest from Pocopoc's assistant
- Research the "Sopranian Understanding" node in the Cypher of the First Ones — it is the one that unlocks the mount forge
- Head to the Forge of Afterlives island in the northwestern part of the zone and climb the large arch at coordinates 47.7, 9.5 — that is where the
Schematic: Scarlet Helicid lies - Farm 350
Genesis Motes — they drop from almost any creature in the zone and from Olea Caches - Kill the rare enemy Protector of the First Ones in the cave at Zovaal's Grasp at coordinates 39.8, 26.4 and obtain the
Revelation Key - Kill helicids all over the zone until the
Helicid Lattice drops from one of them - Head to the mount Protoform Synthesis forge (Protoform Synthesis vault) at coordinates 68.5, 30.1, turn in the Schematic Reconstruction: Scarlet Helicid quest, and receive the mount
Crafting materials
Crafting the
Scarlet Helicid requires a strictly defined set of reagents. Each component is obtained its own way, and it makes sense to prepare the mount in advance, since there are no limits on storing materials.
| Material | Quantity | Main source |
|---|---|---|
| 350 | Any enemies in Zereth Mortis, Olea caches, daily quests | |
| 1 | Protector of the First Ones — rare enemy | |
| 1 | Helicid snails in Zereth Mortis | |
| 1 | Chest on the arch at coordinates 47.7, 9.5 |
How to get the Revelation Key
Revelation Key is a rare drop from the Protector of the First Ones, an automa boss sitting in a sealed cave at Zovaal's Grasp.
- Head to the cave at coordinates 39.8, 26.4 in the western part of Zereth Mortis
- The entrance is blocked by a barrier controlled by two consoles. To remove the protection, you need to activate four mysterious seals lying around the cave — the easiest way to do this is as a pair of players
- Go inside and kill the Protector of the First Ones. It is not especially difficult at level 90, but watch out for its area-of-effect strike when activated
- Collect the loot — with a small chance it will contain the
Revelation Key - If the key does not drop, wait for the rare enemy to respawn (about 30 minutes if no one kills it) or switch to another character
How to farm the Helicid Lattice
Helicid Lattice drops from helicids — snails scattered all across Zereth Mortis. The drop chance is low (roughly 5%), but the mount requires only a single lattice.
- The best farming spots are coordinates 56.6, 69.0 and 58.6, 84.4, where helicids live in dense groups
- Elite and rare helicids have an increased chance to drop the lattice compared with ordinary snails
- An additional chance comes from the loot of Olea Caches, which open up after the Protoform Synthesis storyline
- The lattice is also needed for the other helicids at once: the Bronze, the Serenade, and the Prototype Fleetstalker — so farm with a surplus
Farming Genesis Motes
350
Genesis Motes are the main expense. The motes drop from the vast majority of Zereth Mortis creatures, from daily quests, Olea caches, and fishing.
- The best farming spot is the ramp at coordinates 42.1, 72.7: devourers spawn regularly from the blue portal, and the surrounding automa help kill them
- Complete the daily quests at the Enlightened camp — they hand out a steady stream of motes
- Open every Olea cache you come across: each one gives a large bundle of motes
- While farming the zone you simultaneously collect
Helicid Lattices and shards for the other mounts
Unlocking Protoform Synthesis
To gain access to the mount forge, you must progress through the Cypher of the First Ones system.
- Complete the Zereth Mortis story campaign at least up to the third chapter
- Complete the initial Protoform Synthesis quest that Pocopoc gives out after the system opens
- Research the "Dealic Understanding" node — it grants access to pet crafting at the Synthesis Forge at coordinates 61.8, 58.9
- Then research the "Sopranian Understanding" node — it unlocks the Protoform Synthesis vault for mount crafting at coordinates 68.5, 30.1
- Once unlocked, the creatures you kill will start dropping Protoform Synthesis materials, including lattices
Tips
Open up the 9.2 story in advance — without completing the campaign and researching "Sopranian Understanding", you will have the schematic in hand but will not be able to craft the mount
Gather for all four mounts at once —
Helicid Lattice and
Genesis Motes are needed for all Protoform Synthesis snails, so farm with a surplus and close out the whole branch in one pass
Bring a group for the Protector of the First Ones — the cave barrier comes down faster and more reliably with two players, and the rare enemy gives loot only once per weekly timer
Don't forget to pick up the schematic — the chest with the
Schematic: Scarlet Helicid can be opened even before you gain access to Protoform Synthesis, but then the item disappears. Return to the point 47.7, 9.5 after unlocking the system — the schematic will be waiting
Don't sell duplicate items — if your character already has the mount, extra
Revelation Keys and lattices can be sold at the auction house or kept for alts
The craft is one-time but safe — when crafting, the materials are consumed forever, but the mount is added to your collection with no chance of losing it. It is enough to craft it once on any character
