Reins of the Scourgebound Vanquisher

Overview

Reins of the Scourgebound Vanquisher is a flying mount shaped like a frost wyrm, added to World of Warcraft in the Dragonflight expansion (patch 10.1.5 "Fractures in Time", July 2023). In appearance it is a kin of Sapphiron from Naxxramas: a massive bone dragon with icy scales and a chilling breath. According to the item's description, these dragons were enslaved by the Scourge and exist only to bring death, disease and destruction.

The mount can be obtained in two ways: buy it for 3,000 Paracausal Flakes from Baron Sliver at the Tyrhold Reservoir in Thaldraszus, or have it drop from the final boss of a Time Rift in the alternate reality of Azeroth's Last Stand (the Lich King).

Why you want this mount

  • Scourge theme — the only flying undead frost wyrm dragon available without raid farming in Naxxramas. The perfect mount for death knights, warlocks and fans of gothic aesthetics
  • Guaranteed purchase — unlike random drops, the mount can be earned by honestly accumulating currency: exactly 3,000 Paracausal Flakes, which is equivalent to 6–10 weeks of active participation in Time Rifts
  • Account-wide — once obtained, the mount unlocks for every character on your account regardless of faction and class
  • Tied to the Lich King era — the Scourge's enslaved dragons are a nod to WotLK Naxxramas, making the mount a valuable part of any veteran's collection
  • One of seven event mounts — alongside it, Time Rifts let you collect the Spotless Juggernaut, the Sulfuric Hound and other alternate-reality mounts

How to obtain it

The main path is farming Paracausal Flakes from weekly and hourly Time Rifts, then buying the mount from Baron Sliver. Along the way you also get a chance to have the mount drop directly from the final boss of Azeroth's Last Stand.

  1. Reach level 70 on a character (level 60 is enough to participate in Time Rifts, but the weekly quest and rewards require 70)
  2. Fly to the Tyrhold Reservoir in Thaldraszus (coordinates 51, 57). The flight point unlocks automatically after completing the Dragon Isles storyline
  3. Speak to Soridormi and pick up the weekly quest Mend Time Itself
  4. Wait for the event to begin — Time Rifts open every hour and last about 15 minutes
  5. Take part in the first phase: gather 7,500 units of temporal energy in 9 minutes by completing objectives around the Reservoir zone
  6. Enter the alternate-reality portal and defeat the final boss. Every visit to Azeroth's Last Stand gives a chance for the Reins of the Scourgebound Vanquisher to drop directly
  7. Accumulate Paracausal Flakes and turn in 3,000 of them to Baron Sliver for a guaranteed purchase

Alternate realities and Time Rift mounts

Each Time Rift sends you into one of seven alternate realities. Each reality has its own final boss and its own exclusive mount. Flakes from every reality go into a shared wallet and can be spent on any mount.

The mount's drop chance from the final boss does not depend on the reward tier you earned in the first phase.

How to farm Paracausal Flakes

Paracausal Flakes are the main currency of Time Rifts. The mount costs 3,000, so the grind will take 6–10 weeks depending on your activity.

  1. Weekly quest Mend Time Itself — grants about 1,000 Flakes, 2,750 reputation with Soridormi and a Sealed Timewarped Bounty with a chance at a guaranteed reward
  2. Hourly rifts — each successful run brings in 200–400 Flakes depending on the reward tier (bronze/silver/gold)
  3. Daily quests at the Tyrhold Reservoir — 70 Flakes and 30 reputation with Soridormi for each
  4. Aiding the Accord: Time Rift — the weekly objective Aiding the Accord: Time Rift grants extra Flakes and fragments

The optimal weekly cycle

  • On Wednesday (after the EU reset) turn in the weekly quest on your main character — this grants the main batch of Flakes and a chance at extra rewards
  • Run 3–5 hourly rifts right after the reset — rifts are synced with real time and appear exactly at the top of each hour
  • Pick up all the daily quests from Soridormi and complete them alongside your rift farming

Strategy for landing in Azeroth's Last Stand specifically

The reality the portal opens into is chosen at random from the seven available. This means that, on average, every seventh attempt will take you specifically into Azeroth's Last Stand — the reality with a chance at a direct drop of the Reins of the Scourgebound Vanquisher.

  • Do not leave the rift early — even if you do not get the mount you want, the Flakes and reputation still count
  • A group improves survivability — the final boss of Azeroth's Last Stand hits hard, especially for solo characters in average gear. Join an open group through the group finder

Tips

1

Enter the rifts every hour — a missed hour cannot be made up. Use phone reminders or a WeakAuras addon timer so you don't miss the event

2

Run it on alts — Flakes and the weekly quest are account-wide, but hourly rewards can be collected on each character separately. This doubles your accumulation speed

3

Don't spend Flakes on gear — item level 454 quickly becomes obsolete on the current patch. Save strictly for the mount

4

Remember the two independent rolls — every visit to Azeroth's Last Stand gives a chance at a mount drop and brings you closer to the purchase. Even if you get lucky with the drop, the Flakes you spent can be used on other mounts from the table

5

The mount is account-bound — once obtained, the ability_mount_redfrostwyrm_01Reins of the Scourgebound Vanquisher will appear in the collection of all your characters regardless of faction

6

Maxing reputation with Soridormi is not required — Baron Sliver has no reputation requirements; the mount is sold to every visitor of the reservoir
