Overview

Scrapforged Mechaspider is a ground mount shaped like a mechanical spider, added in patch 8.2 "Rise of Azshara". It is a homemade vehicle assembled from Mechagon scrap and spare parts. The mount is account-wide and available to all characters once obtained.

Why You Want This Mount

  • A unique mechanical design in the mechagnome style — perfect for engineers and fans of steampunk aesthetics
  • Obtaining it grants the Making the Mount achievement worth 10 points
  • One of three mechaspider mounts alongside the Peacekeeper Mechaspider and the Rusted Keeper-Bot
  • Outdated BfA content — easily soloable at high level, and the entire chain can be completed in one session

Requirements

  • A character at level 10 or higher with the Apprentice Riding skill
  • Access to Mechagon Island (unlocked after the BfA introductory quest chain)
  • The completed quest "Welcome to the Resistance" — it unlocks the daily quests on Mechagon
  • Some gold and Spare Parts — Mechagon's main currency

How to Reach Mechagon

Mechagon Island is located to the northeast of Kul Tiras. To unlock access to it:

  1. Reach Friendly standing with the Rustbolt Resistance faction
  2. Complete the introductory quest chain, starting with a task in your faction's capital (Dazar'alor for the Horde, Boralus for the Alliance)
  3. Make your way to Rustbolt — the main camp on the island

Once you complete the quest "Welcome to the Resistance", the daily quests unlock and the Scrapforged Mechaspider quest chain becomes available from the NPC Recycler Sparkbang.

The Quest Chain — 12 Steps

The entire chain is tracked by the Making the Mount achievement. Originally the quests were limited to one per day, but as of patch 11.0 (The War Within) that limit has been removed — the whole chain can be completed in one sitting.

The quest giver for most quests is Recycler Sparkbang, at coordinates 71.4, 38.6 in Rustbolt.

Quest 1 — A Quest for the Workshop

Gather three components:

  • Mechano-Bot Ignition — buy it from Cork Stutterclutch for 50 gold in Rustbolt
  • Carapaceon Plating — drops from the Carapaceon Crustcrawler crab on the eastern coast near the Drain
  • Multilegged Chain Drive — drops from the Sparkweaver Aum spider in the northeast, at the Sparkweaver point

Quest 2 — Bot of All Trades

You are given a special "Bot Recharger" button. Find and revive 3 broken bots across the island.

Quest 3 — Battle Ready

Obtain the Sixteen-Servo Actuator from Bondo Bigblock — a rare elite mob on Mechagon.

Quest 4 — Shake It Out of the Box

Kill 10 Steelclaw Marauders and attack the flying carriers of stolen parts to make them drop crates. Collect the Spider Spring Gears from the dropped crates.

Quest 5 — A Job for the Legs

Gather 4 mechaspider legs and 12 toe springs. Both items drop from the troggs in Bonesnap Cavern and can be found on the ground nearby.

Quest 6 — The Heart of the Matter

Gather 1000 Spare Parts. This is Mechagon's main currency — it drops from practically every mob and is found in crates all over the island. If you already have a stockpile, the quest completes instantly.

Quest 7 — Factory Reconditioning

The most resource-intensive quest of the chain. Gather:

  • 30 Tempered Springs
  • 10 Tempered Plates
  • 5 Machined Gear Assemblies

All of these combine into a Kit of Recyclable Parts. The materials drop from mobs in the Wattman Scrapyard (coordinates ~56, 65). Tip: use the Weather Modification Machine (coordinates 61, 62) with an Exothermic Vaporization Coil to turn the elite Anodized mobs into ordinary Corroded ones — that makes farming much easier.

Quest 8 — Grease the Wheels

Completed at the NPC Grizzek Fizzwrench. The task involves greasing the mechaspider's joints.

Quest 9 — No Emissions

Tune the mechaspider's exhaust system.

Quest 10 — Test Drive

Take the half-assembled mechaspider for a trial run.

Quest 11 — Knock Out His Bot

A combat trial for the mechaspider — defeat the opponent.

Quest 12 — Drive It Away Today

The final quest. You need to craft a Cybergenic Core 500S at the Pascal-K0R0L6 workbench in Rustbolt.

Crafting the core requires:

Material Quantity Source
Spare Crate 8 Traded from Pascal for 250 Spare Parts each (2000 Spare Parts total)
Energy Cell 5 Drop from rare mobs, mechanized chests and recycling crates
Chained Ignition Coil 8 Drop from rare mobs and mechanized chests; also tradeable: 1 Galvanic Oscillator + 2 Energy Cells + 1 Spare Crate = 3 coils

Once the core is crafted, take it to Recycler Sparkbang — and receive your very own Scrapforged Mechaspider!

Farming Materials — Tips

  • Spare Parts are the main consumable. You will need at least 3000 (1000 for quest 6 + 2000 for the crates in the final quest). Spare Parts drop from practically everything on Mechagon.
  • Energy Cells and Ignition Coils are farmed primarily from the island's rare mobs. Kill every rare you encounter and open chests.
  • Ignition Coils can be traded for: for 1 Galvanic Oscillator, 2 Energy Cells and 1 Spare Crate you get 3 coils. Use the trade if drops are scarce.
  • Quest 7 materials (springs, plates, gear assemblies) are farmed in the Wattman Scrapyard. If you have already done this quest on another character, they can be bought from the auction house.
  • At high level all Mechagon mobs die instantly — farming takes mere minutes.
