Searing Tusk Shard — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Searing Tusk Shard is a rare-quality one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft with the Dragonflight expansion in patch 10.0.2. It is a short blade of dark obsidian with a red-hot edge: the blade looks carved from cooling volcanic rock, while orange veins of magma smolder along the cutting edge. The appearance is built on the dungeon model used for the Dragon Isles instances — the same one shared by the dagger line from those dungeons.
The dagger suits cloth-wearing and intellect specializations: it can be carried by priests, mages, warlocks, druids, shamans, and evokers. For transmog purposes it is first and foremost a "fire"-themed weapon — the compact silhouette and smoldering edge make it a handy accent for looks built around volcanoes, forges, and the fire element.
Source
The appearance drops from Magmatusk — an elite mammoth and one of the bosses of the Neltharus dungeon. The dungeon lies beneath the Obsidian Citadel in the The Waking Shores zone on the Dragon Isles and belongs to the Dragonflight expansion content.
Key loot details:
- Magmatusk is one of the first three bosses of Neltharus; he can be killed in any order alongside the other two.
- The dagger drops on every dungeon difficulty: normal, heroic, and mythic, as well as in mythic plus mode. The appearance is identical across all versions, so any one of them is enough for the transmog collection.
- The chance to get the dagger from Magmatusk's loot set is around 5.6%.
- Since spring 2026, Dragonflight dungeons have been switched to the legacy loot-distribution principle: when running solo or in a small group, the boss's full item set drops, which noticeably speeds up farming the appearance.
- The dungeon entrance coordinates in the Waking Shores correspond to the "Obsidian Citadel" flight point.
Killing Magmatusk in mythic mode after he mutates also grants the Liquid Hot Magma achievement — a convenient secondary goal for anyone farming the dagger anyway.
Alternatives
The dagger has no separate color variants from other sources — the appearance is tied to the dungeon model of the Dragon Isles instances and bound specifically to this item. The normal, heroic, and mythic versions differ only in item level and stats, but grant the very same look:
| Dungeon difficulty | Item | Appearance |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | The same | |
| Heroic | The same | |
| Mythic | The same |
If you want a blade with a similar silhouette, look at the other one-handed daggers from the Dragon Isles dungeons — they are made in the same model line and pair well together in matching looks.
Who It Suits Visually
- Fits fire-themed looks — the smoldering magma edge echoes sets built around volcanoes, lava, and flame.
- Harmonizes with dark obsidian armor: the blade's black base does not clash with plate or cloth in graphite shades.
- Looks great paired with another dagger from the Dragon Isles dungeons — two blades from the same model line form a cohesive "dungeon set."
- Works in striking contrast with light or white cloth — the orange veins become a vivid accent against a calm background.
- Fitting for themed looks around the djaradin and the smithing of Neltharus, where the dagger drops.
Tips
The optimal farming method is to run Neltharus solo on a level 70 character: the legacy loot principle hands over the entire Magmatusk set at once.
Magmatusk is a simple fight: just avoid standing in pools of magma and don't drag the encounter out until the tentacle stacks pile up.
The dagger is bound on pickup, so it cannot be passed to another character — farm it on whoever needs the appearance.
The appearance is credited to the transmog collection after the item is obtained by any class from the list of cloth and intellect specializations.
Along with the appearance, you can knock out the "Liquid Hot Magma" achievement if you kill the boss in mythic mode after the mutation.
If the loot set drops without the dagger, there is no time limit on re-running — the dungeon can be re-entered as many times as needed.
For fast runs, classes with high mobility and strong self-healing are handy: they clear the rest of Neltharus's bosses without delays between attempts.
The entry point is marked on the Waking Shores map — the "Obsidian Citadel" teleport saves time between runs.
