inv_soulhoundmount_blueShackled Ur'zul is one of the rarest and most visually striking flying mounts in World of Warcraft. This terrifying demonic beast is an ur'zul — a creature woven from the tormented bodies and souls of fallen Army of the Light warriors. The mount drops from the final boss of the Antorus, the Burning Throne raid — Argus the Unmaker — exclusively on Mythic difficulty.

The Ur'zul was added in Patch 7.3.2 (Legion expansion). While the raid was current, the mount had a 100% drop rate; however, with Patch 8.0.1 (Battle for Azeroth) the probability was significantly reduced. Community estimates suggest fewer than 1% of players own this mount, making it one of the most prestigious mounts in the game.

Why You Want This Mount

  • One of the most impressive mounts in the game with a unique model — a massive demonic creature formed from intertwined bodies
  • Extremely low drop chance (~1%) ensures genuine rarity and prestige
  • Versatile mount: works on the ground and in the air with up to +310% flight speed
  • Counts toward the overall mount collection counter for achievements
  • Related models exist — inv_mace_2h_goblinraid_d_01Reins of the Snarling Ur'zul (red version for Timewarped Badges) and Grisly Ur'zul (no longer available), but the original blue variant remains the most coveted

How to Obtain

There are two main ways to get the Shackled Ur'zul:

Method 1: Farming Argus the Unmaker (Mythic)

The primary method is killing the final boss of Antorus, the Burning Throne on Mythic difficulty each week. Steps:

  1. Set raid difficulty to Mythic (right-click your character portrait → Raid Difficulty → Mythic)
  2. Travel to the entrance of Antorus, the Burning Throne on Argus (details below)
  3. Solo the raid — at level 80 all bosses die in seconds
  4. Kill Argus the Unmaker — the last boss of the raid
  5. Check the loot — inv_soulhoundmount_blueShackled Ur'zul will appear in the boss's loot cache on a lucky roll

Important: the mount drops only on Mythic difficulty. It is not available on Normal or Heroic.

Method 2: Black Market Auction House (BMAH)

The mount periodically appears on the Black Market Auction House. In The War Within, Madam Goya is located in Dornogal, in the Fissure district.

/way #2339 64.6 53.0 Madam Goya — Black Market Auction House
  • Starting price: 20,000 gold
  • Actual bidding usually reaches 5,000,000 – 9,999,999 gold (the cap)
  • The mount appears on the Black Market several times a month, but competition is extremely high
  • The maximum bid is capped at 9,999,999 gold — a bid that cannot be outbid

How to Get to Antorus, the Burning Throne

The raid is located in the Antoran Wastes zone on Argus. The entrance is in a fissure beneath the artillery platform near the Felfire Armory.

/way Antoran Wastes 11.49 87.13 Entrance to Antorus, the Burning Throne

Route to the Entrance

  1. Get to the Vindicaar. Use the Lightforged Beacon on Krasus' Landing in Dalaran (Broken Isles). The Dalaran portal is available from the portal room in faction capital cities.
  2. Travel to the Antoran Wastes. On the Vindicaar's bridge, use the Navigation Console and select "Light's Purchase" in the Antoran Wastes.
  3. Fly to the entrance. From Light's Purchase head west through the Stasis Core. At the fork near the Felfire Armory turn northwest and descend to the fel river. Follow it south to the end of the canyon — the raid entrance is there.

Prerequisites: To access Argus you must complete the introductory quest chain "Hand of Fate," which starts in Dalaran. The chain unlocks the Vindicaar and the Navigation Console. This only needs to be done once per account.

Farming Optimization

Boss Skip (Raid Skip)

Antorus has two skip quests, and as of Patch 11.0.5 skips are account-wide (Warband):

  1. "Antorus, the Burning Throne: The Dark Corridor" — kill Imonar the Soulhunter 4 times on Mythic difficulty. Afterward a teleport from the first boss (Garothi Worldbreaker) to Imonar opens.
  2. "Antorus, the Burning Throne: The Heart of Argus" — kill Aggramar 4 times on Mythic difficulty. After completing the quest, a teleport from Garothi straight to Aggramar opens.

With the "Heart of Argus" skip active your route shrinks to two bosses:

  1. Kill Garothi Worldbreaker (first boss, ~10 seconds)
  2. Use the teleport to Aggramar, kill him (~15 seconds)
  3. Proceed to Argus the Unmaker and kill him (~30 seconds accounting for four phases)

Time per run with skip: 5–8 minutes (including travel to the entrance).

Using Alts

Since the raid resets weekly, the most effective way to increase your chances is to farm on multiple characters.

Characters Average Time to Mount
1 character 50–100 weeks (1–2 years)
5 characters 10–20 weeks (2–5 months)
10 characters 5–10 weeks (1–2 months)
15 characters 3–7 weeks (up to 2 months)

Recommended Classes

At level 80 all Antorus bosses die instantly. The main criterion is movement speed:

Class Advantage
Druid Instant flight form, high movement speed through the raid
Mage Teleport to Dalaran (Broken Isles), closest point to the Vindicaar
Death Knight Death Gate for quick return to the entrance
Monk Zen Pilgrimage to a set stone near the entrance

Argus Fight Notes

Despite the fight taking only seconds, Argus the Unmaker has four phases with forced transitions:

  • Phases 1–3: Pass automatically with sufficient damage
  • Phase 4 (The End of All Things): Argus inevitably kills the raid, after which the Pantheon of Titans resurrects you. Finish the boss after resurrection

This means the fight takes about 20–30 seconds even with massive damage due to forced phase transitions.

Tips

1

Unlock the "Heart of Argus" skip first. Four weeks of full clears on one character pays for itself many times over — the skip saves 15–20 minutes per run. As of Patch 11.0.5 the skip applies to all your characters automatically.

2

Don't forget the weekly reset. Raids reset every Wednesday for EU servers and every Tuesday for US servers. Create a schedule so you never miss a week.

3

Check the Black Market in parallel. If you have spare gold, periodically visit Madam Goya in Dornogal — the mount appears at auction several times a month. Be prepared to bid up to the 9,999,999 gold cap.

4

Use the Rarity addon. It tracks attempt counts and calculates the statistical probability of obtaining the mount, helping maintain motivation during long farming sessions.

5

Use the SavedInstances addon. It shows which characters have already cleared the raid this week so you don't waste time on repeat lockouts.

6

Set your Hearthstone near the entrance. Set your Hearthstone to Light's Purchase on one of your characters — it speeds up reaching the raid by 2–3 minutes.

7

Red alternative. If you like the ur'zul model but don't want to farm Argus for months, check out the inv_mace_2h_goblinraid_d_01Reins of the Snarling Ur'zul — a red version of the mount available for Timewarped Badges during the corresponding event.
