Overview

Shadowbarb Drone

Game iconShadowbarb Drone is an epic ground and flying mount added in patch 8.3 "Visions of N'Zoth" of the Battle for Azeroth expansion. It is a giant aqir insect coursing with the energy of the Void, which the player raises by hand from an egg found in Uldum. The mount is awarded for completing the final quest My Own Drone — the closing task of a long chain that begins with the quest The Incredible Egg.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Guaranteed acquisition — no RNG. You complete a chain of daily tasks step by step and are guaranteed to receive the mount at the end
  • Three rewards in one chain — besides the mount, you also get the Aqir Egg Cluster toy and the Shadowbarb Hatchling battle pet
  • Unique model — the Shadowbarb Drone stands out among standard mounts. A winged aqir with Void tentacles draws attention in any location
  • Ground and flying — the mount works both on the ground and in the air, adapting its speed to your character's riding skill
  • Available to all characters — once obtained, the mount becomes available on every character on your account
  • Engaging gameplay — the quest chain is varied: you tend the egg, feed the larva, and train the hatchling in combat and through pet battles

How to Obtain

To start the chain you must unlock the N'Zoth assaults in Uldum (patch 8.3 content). The entire chain takes about 30 days of daily tasks and is divided into three raising stages.

  1. Head to the western part of Uldum, to Anhatset Harbor. Find The Incredible Egg at coordinates 20.8, 62.0
  2. Interact with the egg — you will receive the quest "The Incredible Egg", which sends you to H'partho Ardoros in Ramkahen
  3. Complete the quest "Inexperienced Breeders" — inspect the eggs at the Temple of Uldum and the Obelisk of the Moon
  4. Complete the "Incubating the Egg" stage — daily tasks until you reach 5,000 experience
  5. Complete the "Feeding the Larva" stage — daily tasks until you reach 5,000 experience
  6. Complete the "Training the Hatchling" stage — combat and pet tasks until you reach 5,000 experience
  7. Complete the final quests: order a saddle from Blacksmith Abasi, gather 12 Otherworldly Armaments, pick up the finished saddle and deliver it to H'partho Ardoros

Stage 1: Incubating the Egg

After starting the chain you need to accumulate 5,000 experience points for the egg through daily tasks. Unique tasks give 900 experience, the repeatable daily one gives 300 experience.

Unique Tasks (900 experience each)

  • Void Incubation — collect 10 Crystallized Void
  • Trapped in Amber — find an amber incubator during a mantid invasion
  • Warmth of the Sun — obtain a solar emitter at the Obelisk of the Stars
  • Wrapping It Up — collect 30 aqir webbing from aqir spellcasters

Repeatable Task (300 experience)

  • Continued Incubation — the daily version of collecting Crystallized Void

Stage Reward

When the experience reaches 5,000, the egg will hatch. You can choose a name for the hatchling from four options: Snapjaw, Reginald, Stabby, or Yu'gaz. As a reward you receive the Game iconAqir Egg Cluster toy.

Stage 2: Feeding the Larva

In the second stage you again need to accumulate 5,000 experience. The first task is "A Balanced Diet": collect 12 chunks of meat from animals.

Feeding Tasks (900 experience each)

  • Meat Alternative — collect 12 insect meat
  • Pungent Fillet — collect 12 tainted flesh
  • A Bloody Treat — collect 8 vials of purified anima
  • Figurines — collect 6 amathet statuettes
  • Buggy Buddies — collect 5 docile sandstone whelps
  • Super Jelly — collect 8 concentrated royal jelly

Repeatable Task (300 experience)

  • More Pungent Fillet — the daily version of collecting tainted flesh

Stage Reward

Upon reaching 5,000 experience the larva will pupate and turn into a hatchling. You receive the Game iconShadowbarb Hatchling battle pet.

Stage 3: Training the Hatchling

The final experience-gathering stage. Here two types of tasks alternate: combat training and pet battles.

Combat Training

  • Aqir Instincts / Honing Instincts — you receive a whistle that summons the hatchling for 10 minutes. Kill enemies during N'Zoth assaults and the hatchling gains experience

Experience per enemy:

Enemy Type Experience
Weak mobs 5
Normal mobs 20
Elite mobs 30–50

Pet Battles (900 experience each)

  • The Big Bad Bug — defeat the Aqir Sandcrawler at the Temple of Uldum
  • Against an Equal — defeat Retinus the Seeker at the Obelisk of the Stars
  • Mantid Might — defeat the Vil'thik larva at the Serpent's Wall
  • The Smallest Defender — defeat the Barak stone defender at the Ruins of Ahmtul

Stage Reward

Upon reaching 5,000 experience the final quests unlock.

Final Quests

After finishing the hatchling's training, complete the three last tasks:

  1. A Special Order — speak with Blacksmith Abasi in Ramkahen (coordinates 54, 33.4)
  2. Otherworldly Armaments — collect 12 Otherworldly Armaments from N'Zoth cultists in Uldum or the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Return the next day for the finished saddle
  3. My Own Drone — pick up the saddle from Blacksmith Abasi and deliver it to H'partho Ardoros in Ramkahen (55.6, 35.2)

After turning in the quest you receive the Game iconShadowbarb Drone mount.

Tips

1

Start as early as possible — the chain takes about 30 days. The sooner you find the egg, the sooner you get the mount. Don't skip a single day

2

The egg is always available — the Void-touched egg is located in Uldum at coordinates 20.8, 62.0, near Anhatset Harbor. It is available at any time, regardless of an active assault

3

Pet battle trick — enemies in pet battles scale to the level of your strongest pet on the team. Bring three level 1 pets and the fight becomes trivial

4

Don't level the Shadowbarb Hatchling — if you don't raise the level of the pet you receive, the pet battles in the training stage stay easy

5

Turn off War Mode — during combat training you can be killed by players of the enemy faction. Disable PvP mode for a calmer run

6

Don't enter Minor Visions — if you summoned the hatchling with the whistle and entered a Minor Vision, the summon timer may reset. Train in the open world

7

Human racial bonus — the human racial ability "Diplomacy" (+10% to reputation gained) also works on the hatchling's experience, speeding up progress

8

Farm the armaments in advance — the final stage requires 12 Otherworldly Armaments. They can be gathered in a single session from N'Zoth cultists in Uldum or the Vale of Eternal Blossoms

9

The mount is account-wide — once obtained, the Shadowbarb Drone will be available on all your characters without repeating the chain
