Shadowblade — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Shadowblade is an epic one-handed dagger from the very earliest era of World of Warcraft. Its low item ID betrays its age: the appearance has existed in the game since the first content set and belongs to classic Azeroth, long before the first expansion.
The model is a narrow, dark blade with a cold blue-violet sheen and a slim guard. The silhouette is restrained and clean — this is not a flashy weapon but a stern assassin's dagger that reads well on medium and dark armor sets. The dagger is available to any class that can wield daggers: rogues, druids, mages, priests, shamans, warlocks, demon hunters and warriors.
The item has a feature rare for a weapon of this age — a possible on-hit effect,
Shadow Bolt, which occasionally deals shadow magic damage to the target. This does not affect transmog farming: what matters for the collection is the appearance itself, not the combat stats of an outdated item.
Source
Shadowblade is a world drop. It has no fixed boss or guaranteed source: the dagger drops randomly from ordinary mobs of roughly level 47-57 across classic Azeroth. Epic quality means an extremely low drop chance from any single enemy, so farming the appearance is a long game.
A key feature of world drops: the item is not bound to the character and can be sold at the auction house. This is the main and fastest path to the appearance.
- Check the auction house. As an inexpensive old-world epic, Shadowblade regularly appears for sale from other players. Buying it at auction is almost always faster than farming it yourself.
- For self-farming, choose locations with dense packs of mobs in the right level range: Felwood, Winterspring and Un'Goro Crater.
- The dungeon Blackrock Depths is also populated with enemies of a suitable level and is convenient to clear on a max-level character.
- The appearance is added to your collection the first time any character on the account obtains the item — after that, Shadowblade is available for transmogrification on all your characters.
Alternatives
The Shadowblade model belongs to a family of classic daggers from early World of Warcraft, and it has visually similar items from the same period with a different color scheme. An exact list of recolors with confirmed IDs cannot be given, so below is a practical way to find them yourself.
- Open the
Shadowblade page on Wowhead and switch to the same-model tab — there you will find all items that use the same appearance or its recolors. - In the Wowhead dagger appearance catalog you can filter weapons by model and immediately see every color variant of a single silhouette.
- For the collection, it is enough to obtain any item with the desired appearance — it does not have to be Shadowblade specifically if another source with the same model is more readily available at auction.
Who It Suits Visually
- The blade's cold blue-violet sheen pairs well with dark leather sets in an assassin style — especially with classic-era rogue sets.
- The restrained silhouette without large ornaments suits looks where the weapon should not draw attention away from the armor.
- The dark palette harmonizes with purple and dark-blue cloth sets for mages and warlocks.
- Equipping two Shadowblades in both hands gives a cohesive, symmetrical look for specializations that use a dagger in each hand.
- The dagger contrasts strikingly with light plate armor — a debatable but expressive combination for unconventional looks.
Tips
1
Before farming, always check the auction house first. Old-world epic world drops are inexpensive, and buying saves hours of clearing.
2
If you farm yourself, take a max-level character — level 47-57 mobs die instantly, and clearing speed is limited only by their packing density and respawn time.
3
Classes with high mobility and area damage are optimal: they move through large enemy packs between spawn points the fastest.
4
The drop chance of an epic item from an ordinary mob is very low — do not count on a quick result when self-farming; it is a lengthy endeavor.
5
Clearing Blackrock Depths at max level combines world-drop farming with a chance at other transmog appearances, gold and dungeon reputation.
6
If the item is not on your region's auction house, check again in a few days — world drops are listed for sale regularly.
7
The appearance unlocks account-wide, so it is enough to obtain the dagger once on any character.
