Overview

Shadowflame Shalewing is an epic flying mount of the shalewing family, added in patch 10.1 of the Dragonflight expansion. The mount is rewarded for completing the meta achievement Glory of the Aberrus Raider, which requires finishing 9 special achievements in the Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible raid.

The Shadowflame Shalewing is a sporebat in a lava color scheme with a unique model.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Unique model — the Shadowflame Shalewing stands out among other shalewings with its fiery lava coloring accented by shadowflame elements. It is the only mount of this family obtained through a raid meta achievement
  • Guaranteed acquisition — no random drop. Complete all 9 achievements and the mount is yours forever
  • Prestige — a "Glory of the Raider" achievement has always been a mark of an experienced raider. The Shadowflame Shalewing shows that you know the mechanics of every Aberrus boss
  • Account-wide — once obtained, the mount is available to every character on your account
  • Skyriding compatible — the mount supports the skyriding system, including dashes and maneuvers

Requirements

  • A character at maximum level
  • Access to the Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible raid on Normal difficulty or higher
  • A raid group of 10–30 players (15–20 recommended for comfortably completing the achievements)
  • All 9 achievements can be completed across different weeks — progress is saved

How to Reach Aberrus

The Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible raid is located in the Zaralek Cavern — an underground zone of the Dragonflight expansion. The raid entrance is in the northeastern part of the Zaralek Cavern.

Quick Route

  1. Use the portal to Valdrakken from the portal room in your capital city
  2. From Valdrakken, fly to the Zaralek Cavern (entrance via the chasm in the Ohn'ahran Plains or through a direct portal if it is unlocked)
  3. Inside the Zaralek Cavern, head to the northeastern part — the huge entrance to Aberrus is impossible to miss

All 9 Achievements — Detailed Guide

Below is each boss and its achievement. All achievements are completed on Normal difficulty or higher. At maximum level in The War Within, the Aberrus bosses are significantly weaker, which makes most mechanics easier to perform.

1. Cosplate

Achievement: Cosplate — defeat Kazzara, the Hellforged after you shatter your own Hellsteel Plating.

How to complete:

  1. When entering Kazzara's room, note the lava to the right of the entrance
  2. Jump into the lava — you will gain the "Hellsteel Plating" debuff
  3. Start the boss fight
  4. When Kazzara uses her fiery breath (a frontal cone), stand in it — the breath will shatter the plating and give you the "Shattered Hellsteel" debuff
  5. After that, kill the boss as usual

Difficulty: Easy. At maximum level the boss dies quickly; the main thing is not to forget to jump into the lava before the pull.

2. Tabula Rasa

Achievement: Tabula Rasa — defeat the Forgotten Experiments after the NPC Neldris is hit three times by each of these abilities: Rending Charge, Volatile Spew, and Deep Breath.

How to complete:

  1. In the encounter room there is a friendly NPC, Neldris
  2. Lead the bosses toward Neldris so that their abilities hit it
  3. Neldris must take 3 hits from each of the three abilities: Rending Charge, Volatile Spew, and Deep Breath
  4. The three bosses appear in sequence, each with its signature ability
  5. Watch Neldris's health — it must not die before the achievement is complete

Difficulty: Medium. Requires raid coordination for positioning.

3. Whac-A-Swog

Achievement: Whac-A-Swog — defeat Rashok, the Elder after the Lost Lurker is hit 5 times by Searing Slam.

How to complete:

  1. During the fight, a small frog — the Lost Lurker — appears on the arena
  2. The frog hops around the arena and periodically changes position
  3. The tank must position the boss so that its Searing Slam ability hits the frog
  4. You need to hit the frog 5 times
  5. The frog moves quickly, so precise positioning is required

Difficulty: Medium. The main problem is that the frog constantly hops and you must aim precisely.

4. Escar-Go-Go-Go

Achievement: Escar-Go-Go-Go — defeat the Zaqali Elder Council after Magmorax eats 20 Spicy Lava Snails.

How to complete:

  1. During the fight with Magmorax, Spicy Lava Snails appear around the arena
  2. Players must collect the snails and bring them to the boss
  3. The boss eats a snail when a player carrying one is next to it
  4. You need to feed the boss 20 snails in total
  5. The snails appear in waves throughout the fight

Difficulty: Medium. Requires the whole raid to coordinate snail collection and to prolong the fight.

5. Are You Even Trying?

Achievement: Are You Even Trying? — repel the Assault of the Zaqali by hitting certain creatures with a Cavern Pebble.

How to complete:

  1. During the encounter, Cavern Pebbles appear on the ground
  2. Players pick up the pebbles and throw them at the indicated creatures at ground level
  3. You need to hit 6 different targets with pebbles
  4. The pebbles are generated in the second phase of the fight

Difficulty: Easy. You simply need to pick up the pebbles and hit the right mobs.

6. Eggscellent Eggsecution

Achievement: Eggscellent Eggsecution — defeat the Vigilant Steward, Zskarn while one of the raid members holds the Fragile Experimental Egg.

How to complete:

  1. Before the fight with Zskarn, one of the players must pick up the Fragile Experimental Egg
  2. The player must hold the egg throughout the entire fight without dropping or destroying it
  3. The egg is fragile — any significant damage to the carrier can break it
  4. It is recommended to give the egg to a healer or a ranged player who will stand in a safe position
  5. After killing the boss with the egg in one participant's hands, the achievement is credited

Difficulty: Medium. The key is to protect the egg carrier from unnecessary damage.

7. I'll Make My Own Shadowflame

Achievement: I'll Make My Own Shadowflame — defeat the Amalgamation Chamber after you use Shadow Blast, Fire Meteor, and Searing Twilight on the Forgotten Sample Vessel to create and destroy a Shadowflame Remnant.

How to complete:

  1. When entering the boss room, note the Forgotten Sample Vessel on the left
  2. During the fight, you must direct three different boss abilities into the vessel:
    • Shadow Blast
    • Fire Meteor
    • Searing Twilight
  3. After all three abilities hit, the vessel creates a Shadowflame Remnant
  4. Destroy the Shadowflame Remnant
  5. After that, kill the boss

Difficulty: Medium. Requires precise positioning of the boss's abilities.

8. Objects in Transit May Shatter

Achievement: Objects in Transit May Shatter — carry four objects through the Warped Earthen Walls during the fight with the Echo of Neltharion.

How to complete:

  1. Before the fight, gather four objects located in different parts of Aberrus:
    • Expired Experiment — a large vat on the left after the first boss
    • Stack of Scrolls — climb up the chain after Rashok's room
    • Everburning Ebon Candle — go along the right side of the Assault of the Zaqali room instead of heading to the boss
    • "Portable" Ebon Anvil — look for it in the raid on the way to Zskarn
  2. Four players must carry these objects to the fight with the Echo of Neltharion
  3. During the fight, the boss creates Warped Earthen Walls
  4. Players with the objects must carry them through the walls so the objects shatter
  5. All four objects must be shattered this way

Difficulty: High. The hardest achievement in the meta — it requires preparation and coordination.

9. We'll Never See That Again, Surely

Achievement: We'll Never See That Again, Surely — grow a Flesh Mass and toss it into the Void Between the Stars during the fight with Scalecommander Sarkareth.

How to complete:

  1. During the fight with Sarkareth, a Flesh Mass appears
  2. A player must pick it up and "grow" it — for this, the mass must absorb several smaller adds
  3. When the Flesh Mass has grown enough, it must be tossed into the Void Between the Stars — an area that appears during the transition phase
  4. The exact moment to throw is when the boss enters the Void phase and the portal to the void opens

Difficulty: Medium. You need to choose the right moment for the throw.

Optimization Tips

  • At maximum level the bosses are weaker. In Midnight, level 90 characters significantly outclass Dragonflight content. However, some achievements still require mechanical execution
  • Achievements can be completed across different weeks. You don't have to do all 9 in one run. Meta achievement progress is saved between raid resets
  • Raid size is flexible. On Normal difficulty you can go with a group of 10 to 30 people. For most achievements a group of 15–20 people is more convenient
  • Check your progress. Open the achievements tab (Y) and find "Glory of the Aberrus Raider" to track which achievements are already completed
  • The mount is account-wide. Once obtained, the Shadowflame Shalewing becomes available to all your characters
