Overview

Shiv of Exsanguination

Game iconShiv of Exsanguination is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft in patch 2.4.0 during The Burning Crusade expansion. It is a short blade from the dagger family of the Sunwell Plateau raid: a slender curved blade with a dark crimson sheen and a carved hilt in the style of the blood elves. The very name refers to draining a victim's blood — the dagger is conceived as an assassin's weapon, and that reads instantly in its visuals.

Source

The Shiv of Exsanguination drops in the Sunwell Plateau raid — the final raid of The Burning Crusade expansion. The raid sits on the Isle of Quel'Danas, off the northern coast of the Eastern Kingdoms.

  • The dagger drops from Lady Sacrolash — one half of the "Eredar Twins" fight, the fourth encounter of the raid.
  • The second half of the encounter is Grand Warlock Alythess; the loot is awarded by Lady Sacrolash specifically once both sisters are defeated.
  • The raid has only one difficulty — it is The Burning Crusade-era content with no separate modes. The chance of the dagger dropping from the boss's general loot table is low, and Blizzard never published a specific number, so plan on several runs.
  • Boss loot is tied to the weekly raid timer: the "Eredar Twins" can be killed once per lockout per character.

How to reach the raid

Access to the Sunwell Plateau was opened up long ago — there are no quest chains to complete. The fastest route:

  • Take a portal to Shattrath from any capital of your faction.
  • In the center of Shattrath, step onto the portal to the Isle of Quel'Danas.
  • The raid entrance is in the large building in the southern part of the isle.

For a modern character the raid is cleared solo without trouble. If your goal is specifically farming the dagger, keep the raid lockout in mind: after killing any boss, the remaining bosses close for the week, so you can only check the "Eredar Twins" once per run.

Who it suits visually

  • It pairs well with dark leather rogue sets from The Burning Crusade content — in particular the tier 6 raid rogue set from the Sunwell Plateau with its red-and-black palette.
  • It harmonizes with maroon and charcoal-black armor sets — the bloody blade reinforces the assassin image and emphasizes the poison theme.
  • It looks great alongside a second dagger of the same family: two blades of one shape give a whole, put-together look.
  • It contrasts with light and golden sets — a debatable but striking combination if you want to accent the weapon.
  • It fits looks for blood elves and Legion cultists thanks to the carved Silvermoon-style hilt.

Tips

1

Before the run, reset the Sunwell Plateau raid lockout if it carried over from last week — otherwise the bosses will already be dead.

2

Farm the dagger solo: a modern character mows down The Burning Crusade bosses in mere seconds, so no group is needed.

3

Mind the raid timer — the "Eredar Twins" can only be killed once a week per character. To speed up the farm, run it on several characters of your account.

4

Lady Sacrolash drops more than just this dagger, so every run may bring other epic items for your appearance collection.

5

If the crimson blade stays elusive for a long time, gather the Fang of Kalecgos from the first boss in parallel — it is obtained faster and covers the same model in a different color.

6

The appearance unlocks in your appearance collection right after you receive the item, even if the dagger does not match your class by stats — after that the item can be sold or destroyed.

7

Combine farming the dagger with collecting the raid rogue set: weapon and armor from the same raid add up to a finished look.
