Get Silent Glider mount
Overview

Silent Glider is an epic ground and flying mount added in patch 8.2 "Rise of Azshara" of the Battle for Azeroth expansion. It is a graceful ray that glides through the air thanks to the gases that build up inside its body. The mount drops from the rare mob Soundless in the Nazjatar zone with an extremely low drop chance.
The Silent Glider belongs to the family of Nazjatar rays and shares its model with other rays from this expansion — the Ankoan Waveray and the Unshackled Waveray. However, it is the Silent Glider that stands out with its unique coloring and the fact that it is the only ray obtainable from a rare mob.
Why You Want This Mount
- Unique ray model — the Silent Glider has a distinctive coloring that cannot be obtained in any other way. Among all the Nazjatar rays, this is the rarest and most prestigious variant
- Ground and flying — the mount works both on the ground and in the air. Its speed depends on your riding skill: up to +310% while flying
- Account-wide — once obtained, the mount unlocks on all of your characters
- Free — unlike mounts bought with gold or reputation, the Silent Glider requires no cost beyond your time. All you need is to kill Soundless and hope for luck
- Smooth flight animation — the ray glides gently through the air, creating a relaxing visual impression. One of the most aesthetic flying mounts in the game
- Minimal requirements — to use it, you only need level 10 and the Apprentice riding skill (ground) or Expert (flight)
Requirements
To obtain the mount, you need:
- A character of at least level 10
- Access to the Nazjatar zone (you must complete the introductory BfA quest chain)
- The ability to reach Soundless atop the coral pillars (more details in the "How to Reach Soundless" section)
How to Get to Nazjatar
Nazjatar is an underwater zone added in patch 8.2. Access to it is unlocked through a story quest chain.
First Visit
- Make sure you have a character of at least level 50 (or use the Chromie system to scale BfA content)
- Head to your faction's capital in Zandalar (Horde) or Kul Tiras (Alliance)
- Pick up the starting quest that sends you to Nazjatar: "The Wolf's Den" (Horde) or "A Way Out" (Alliance)
- Follow the quest chain — you will be transported to Nazjatar automatically through a cutscene
- Complete the introductory quests to unlock your faction's camp
Quick Access (After Unlocking)
Once the introductory chain is complete, a portal appears:
- Horde: the portal to Nazjatar is located in the Port of Zandalar (Zuldazar)
- Alliance: the portal to Nazjatar is located in Boralus Harbor (Kul Tiras)
At level 90, all of Nazjatar's content is trivial, and you will be able to move around the zone without any difficulty.
How to Reach Soundless
Soundless is a giant ray that hovers atop the tall coral pillars in the Coral Forest. The main challenge of this mount is not the fight, but climbing up to the mob.
Spawn Coordinates
Soundless appears at one of several points in the Coral Forest:
Farming Optimization
Multi-Character Strategy
The most efficient way to farm is to use several characters. Each character can loot Soundless once per day, which multiplies your chances:
- Create or use several alts with access to Nazjatar
- Leave each alt in the Coral Forest near one of the spawn points
- Log in to each character daily, check whether Soundless is up, and kill it
- With 5 characters and a ~5% chance, you will get the mount in about 4 days on average
Daily Plan
- Log in to your main character, open the Nazjatar map and check whether Soundless is marked
- Fly around all 7 spawn points — this takes 2–3 minutes on a flying mount
- If Soundless is absent, switch to alts at other spawn points
- After killing it on one character, check the loot and move on to the next alt
- Repeat daily until you get the mount
Recommended Addons
- SilverDragon — automatically detects rare mobs when you approach and gives an audio alert
- RareScanner — shows all known rare mob spawn points on the map and tracks timers
- TomTom — coordinate navigation with an on-screen direction arrow
- HandyNotes: Battle for Azeroth — marks all significant points of Nazjatar on the map, including rare mob spawns
How Long It Will Take
Farming with a single character and a ~5% drop chance, you will need about 20 kills on average, which corresponds to roughly 20 days of daily checks. Using 3–5 alts shortens the time to 4–7 days. If the drop chance is closer to the original 1%, the farm can take several months on a single character.
Tips
Use flying — at level 90, flying in Nazjatar is fully unlocked. This makes farming trivial — just fly around the spawn points on a flying mount
Park your alts — leave your characters right in the Coral Forest. When you log in, all you have to do is check the nearby spawn points without wasting time flying from the capital
Check several times a day — Soundless's respawn is 2–8 hours, so checking in the morning and evening doubles your chances compared to a single check per day
Turn on sound — the SilverDragon and RareScanner addons play an audio signal when a rare mob is detected. You can leave your character in the Coral Forest in the background and wait for the alert
Group up via LFG — open the group finder interface (the I key) and search for groups named "Soundless". Other players may already be tracking the respawn, and you will end up on their server through a cross-realm group
BfA content is outdated — at level 90, Soundless dies in 2–3 hits. No special gear or preparation is required
The mount is bound on pickup — it cannot be sold or transferred to another player. You must farm it on the exact account where you want to use the mount
Loot once per day — even if you find and kill Soundless again on the same day, no loot will drop. Don't waste time on repeat kills with the same character
