Overview

Silver Covenant Hippogryph

Silver Covenant Hippogryph is a flying mount added to World of Warcraft in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (patch 3.2). It is a silver-white hippogryph with graceful plumage, belonging to the Silver Covenant faction — an organization of high elves operating in Northrend. The mount is purchased from a vendor at the Argent Tournament Grounds for 150 Champion's Seals.

The mount is available only to Alliance characters. However, learning it automatically unlocks the Horde equivalent — the Sunreaver Dragonhawk. This lets players of both factions benefit from a single purchase if they have characters on both sides.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Flying and ground transport — the mount adapts to your riding skill and works both in the air and on the ground. A versatile means of travel for any zone where flying is allowed
  • Unique coloring — the silver-white plumage makes this hippogryph stand out from most other flying mounts. It immediately catches the eye in any collection
  • Guaranteed acquisition — no random drop. You save up 150 Champion's Seals and buy the mount from a vendor. The result depends only on your time and effort
  • Automatic Horde equivalent — when you learn the mount, Horde characters on your account receive the Sunreaver Dragonhawk. One purchase — two mounts in your collection
  • Parallel reward farming — while you save up Seals at the Argent Tournament Grounds, other mounts are also available. Collectors can clear an entire block of mounts in one go
  • Account-wide availability — once purchased, the mount appears in the collection of all your characters

Prerequisites

The Silver Covenant Hippogryph is not a one-time purchase but the result of extended work with the Argent Tournament faction. Before you start farming, make sure you have met all the conditions.

Requirement Details
Character faction Alliance only
Character level 27+ (a formality — at level 80 everything is cleared instantly)
Riding skill Apprentice Riding (for ground), Expert Riding (for flying)
Reputation Silver Covenant — Exalted
Achievement A Silver Confidant
Currency 150 Champion's Seals

The A Silver Confidant achievement requires both Exalted reputation with the Silver Covenant and the right to represent one of the city factions at the Argent Tournament (the title of Champion). Only after earning this achievement will the vendor open his stock to you.

How to Reach the Argent Tournament

The Argent Tournament Grounds are located in the northeast of Icecrown in Northrend.

  1. Head to Dalaran in Northrend. The portal to old Dalaran is available through portal mages in your faction's capital or from the Chamber of the Guardian in current Dalaran
  2. From Dalaran, fly to the northeast of Icecrown. You can also use a flight master
  3. The tournament grounds are located north of Sindragosa's Fall

How to Obtain

Obtaining the mount requires completing the Argent Tournament quest chain and accumulating Champion's Seals. The whole process is broken down into several stages.

Stage 1: Aspirant

  1. Arrive at the Argent Tournament Grounds and speak with the representative of your race in one of the tents
  2. Accept the introductory quests — you will receive the rank of Aspirant
  3. Complete the daily Aspirant quests: mounted training, jousting against dummies, and mob-killing tasks
  4. Collect 15 Aspirant's Seals and accept the quest to joust for the rank of Valiant

Stage 2: Valiant

  1. Win the mounted joust and receive the rank of Valiant
  2. Complete the daily Valiant quests — 4 quests per day, each granting a Valiant's Seal
  3. Collect 25 Valiant's Seals (about 5 days)
  4. Accept the quest to joust for the rank of Champion of your racial faction

Stage 3: Champion

  1. Win the final joust and become a Champion of your racial faction
  2. Champion quests will open, rewarding Champion's Seals
  3. Each day you can earn from 6 to 11 Seals depending on the number of available quests
  4. An additional 3 Seals come from completing the Trial of the Champion dungeon on Heroic difficulty

Stage 4: Building Reputation with the Silver Covenant

In parallel with accumulating Seals, you need to raise your reputation with the Silver Covenant to Exalted. Reputation grows through completing the daily Argent Tournament quests. Wear the Silver Covenant tabard and complete the tournament quests — reputation will grow alongside the accumulation of Seals.

When you reach Exalted and earn the title of Champion, you will automatically be granted the A Silver Confidant achievement. After that, Hiren Loresong will open his stock, and you will be able to buy the Silver Covenant Hippogryph for 150 Champion's Seals.

Stage 5: Expanding the Farm (optional)

After earning the title of Champion of one racial faction, you can become a Champion of the other four Alliance factions. Each new faction opens up additional daily quests and increases your daily Seal income. When you become a Champion of all five racial factions, you earn the title of Crusader and access to even more quests.

How Long the Farm Will Take

Stage Duration
Aspirant → Valiant 3–5 days
Valiant → Champion 5 days
Reputation to Exalted parallel with Champion quests
Accumulating 150 Champion's Seals 14–25 days
Total approximately 22–35 days

If you are already a Crusader (Champion of all five Alliance racial factions), your daily Seal income is higher — up to 10–14 per day, and the timeframe shrinks to 11–15 days for the accumulation stage.

Farm Optimization

Daily Routine

At max level (90 in Midnight), all Argent Tournament quests are completed in 15–20 minutes. Enemies die instantly, and mounted jousts are settled in seconds.

  1. Pick up all available quests from the faction representatives in the tents and from the central quest givers
  2. Complete the mob-killing quests — at level 80 this takes a couple of minutes
  3. Get through the mounted jousts — at max level it's enough to simply attack your opponent
  4. Turn in all quests and choose the gold pouch as your reward — it has a chance to contain an extra Champion's Seal

Trial of the Champion Dungeon

Trial of the Champion on Heroic difficulty grants 3 Champion's Seals per run. At level 90 the dungeon is cleared solo in 3–5 minutes. An extra 3 Seals each day is a noticeable boost to your daily income.

Crusader Title

If you plan to buy several mounts from the Argent Tournament, become a Crusader first — Champion of all five Alliance racial factions. The title opens up additional daily quests, increasing your daily Seal income to 10–14.

Tips

1

Argent Crusader's tabard — after earning the Crusader title, you can buy the inv_shirt_guildtabard_01Argent Crusader's Tabard, which teleports you straight to the tournament grounds. It saves time on daily flights

2

Always take the pouch — when turning in Champion quests, choose the gold pouch. It sometimes contains an extra Champion's Seal, which speeds up accumulation

3

Don't skip the Heroic dungeon — the 3 extra Seals from the Trial of the Champion noticeably reduce the overall farm time

4

Start with your native racial faction — the Aspirant → Valiant → Champion chain is tied to a racial faction. Start with the faction of your race to unlock Champion quests faster and begin saving Seals

5

Plan your purchases in advance — more than ten mounts are available at the tournament grounds. If you are a collector, make a list and count the total number of Seals to plan your time wisely

6

Outdated content — no difficulty — the Argent Tournament belongs to the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (2008). On a level 90 character, all quests, jousts, and the dungeon are cleared without any trouble

7

Two mounts in one purchase — remember that learning the Silver Covenant Hippogryph automatically unlocks the ability_hunter_pet_dragonhawkSunreaver Dragonhawk for Horde characters. This makes the purchase especially worthwhile for players with characters on both factions
