Overview

Silvermoon Hawkstrider

The Game iconSilvermoon Hawkstrider is a ground mount for the Horde faction, added to World of Warcraft in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (patch 3.1.0). It is an elegant hawkstrider with red-and-gold plumage, adorned with the heraldry of Silvermoon City, the capital of the blood elves. Hawkstriders have long served as riding animals for the sin'dorei people, and this particular bird was specially trained for the knights who represent Silvermoon at the Argent Tournament.

The mount is purchased from Trellis Morningsun, the Silvermoon City quartermaster on the Argent Tournament grounds, for 100 Champion's Seals. To buy it, you must either play a blood elf or earn the Champion of Silvermoon City achievement.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Elegant hawkstrider model — the Silvermoon Hawkstrider differs from the standard blood elf hawkstriders with its heraldic caparison and more detailed coloring. Among collectors it is prized as part of the complete set of Argent Tournament mounts
  • Part of a larger collection — the Argent Tournament sells five Horde faction mounts, five Alliance mounts, plus shared mounts such as the Game iconSunreaver Dragonhawk and the Game iconArgent Warhorse. While you are saving up seals, it makes sense to collect them all
  • Account-wide availability — once purchased, the mount appears in the collection of all your Horde characters
  • No element of chance — unlike mounts with a percentage drop rate, the Silvermoon Hawkstrider is guaranteed to be purchased for a fixed amount of currency. It is only a matter of time
  • Progress toward the Crusader title — purchasing all the Argent Tournament faction mounts is tied to progression through the champion ranks, which ultimately unlocks the "Crusader" title and additional daily quests

If your character is a blood elf, access to the Silvermoon City quartermaster opens automatically as soon as you reach Champion rank for at least one city. For characters of other Horde races, you will need to complete the quest chain specifically for Silvermoon City.

How to Reach the Argent Tournament

The Argent Tournament is located in the northeastern part of the Icecrown zone in Northrend.

  1. Open the portal room in Orgrimmar and use the "Dalaran, Crystalsong" portal — it will take you to Dalaran (Northrend)
  2. From Dalaran, fly north — the Argent Tournament grounds are in Icecrown, northeast of Sindragosa's Fall. The flight takes about a minute
  3. Land on the tournament grounds — you will see the faction tents, the training fields, and the Argent Pavilion. The Sunreaver tent (the Horde camp) is on the eastern side

How to Obtain

The path to the mount consists of two stages: first you complete the Argent Tournament quest chain up to Champion of Silvermoon City rank, and then you save up 100 Champion's Seals to buy it.

Stage 1: Earning Champion of Silvermoon City Rank

Progression at the Argent Tournament goes through three ranks: Aspirant, Valiant, and Champion.

Aspirant Rank (3 days)

  1. Speak with the Horde representative in the Sunreaver tent and take the "The Argent Tournament" quest
  2. Complete three training tasks: "Up to the Challenge," "The Grand Melee," and "The Edge of Winter" — they will teach you how to use a tournament lance while mounted
  3. Complete the Aspirant daily quests, collecting 5 Aspirant's Marks per day. To advance to the next rank you need 15 marks — this takes 3 days

Valiant Rank (5 days)

  1. Choose the city you will fight for — for this mount you need Silvermoon City
  2. Complete the Valiant daily quests, which grant 5 Valiant's Marks per day
  3. To advance to Champion rank you need 25 marks — this takes 5 days
  4. After collecting 25 marks, take the "The Valiant's Challenge" quest and defeat the NPC champion in the lists

Champion Rank

After the victory you earn the Champion of Silvermoon City achievement and access to the quartermaster Trellis Morningsun. The minimum time from start to Champion rank is 8 days.

Stage 2: Collecting 100 Champion's Seals

After earning Champion rank, daily quests that grant Champion's Seals open up. On average you can earn 7–10 seals per day, depending on how many cities and quests you have unlocked.

Main sources of seals:

Source Seals per day
Champion daily quests (4 quests) 4
"Among the Champions" quest 1
"Threat From Above" quest 2
"Taking Battle To The Enemy" quest 1
Heroic dungeon "Trial of the Champion" 3
Additional Crusader quests (after the title) 3–4
Total 14–15

Earning 7–10 seals per day (without the Crusader title), collecting 100 will take roughly 10–14 days of daily quests. With the Crusader title — 7–8 days.

Stage 3: Buying the Mount

  1. Find Trellis Morningsun in the Sunreaver tent on the Argent Tournament grounds
  2. Talk to her and select the Silvermoon Hawkstrider from the list of goods
  3. Pay 100 Champion's Seals — the mount appears in your inventory
  4. Use the item, and the mount is added to your collection

Other Argent Tournament Mounts for the Horde

Each of the five Horde cities has its own quartermaster with a unique faction mount. All mounts cost 100 Champion's Seals each, and to buy one you must be a Champion of the corresponding city (or belong to that city's race).

Game iconThunder Bluff Kodo Thunder Bluff Quartermaster Thunder Bluff
Game iconDarkspear Raptor Darkspear Quartermaster Sen'jin

Besides the faction mounts, the tournament sells shared mounts: the Argent Warhorse (100 seals) and the flying Sunreaver Dragonhawk (150 seals).

Optimizing Seal Farming

Become a Crusader

The "Crusader" title is awarded for reaching Champion rank with all five Horde cities. After that, additional daily quests open up, increasing your daily seal earnings to 14–15. Working up all five cities takes about 25 days from the start (5 days for Valiant for each city), but it pays off in the long run if you are collecting several mounts.

How Long It Takes

Stage Duration
Aspirant 3 days
Valiant (Silvermoon City) 5 days
Collecting 100 seals (7–10/day) 10–14 days
Total 18–22 days

If you are already a Crusader and earn 14–15 seals per day, collecting 100 seals drops to 7–8 days.

Heroic Dungeon "Trial of the Champion"

The heroic mode of the Trial of the Champion grants 3 Champion's Seals per run. At level 90 in Midnight the dungeon clears solo in a couple of minutes. Don't forget to go in every day — it significantly speeds up the farm.

Tips

1

Start with your home city — if your character is a blood elf, you get access to the Silvermoon City quartermaster right after reaching Champion rank, bypassing the need to complete the quest chain for that city separately. This saves 5 days

2

Combine quests — most Argent Tournament daily quests take place in the same areas of Icecrown. Plan your route so you don't fly back and forth

3

Don't skip "Threat From Above" — this quest grants 2 seals for killing a dragon and is completed quickly at max level. At level 80 in The War Within the opponent dies in a few seconds

4

Buy the tournament tabard — the inv_shirt_guildtabard_01Argent Crusader's Tabard (50 seals) teleports you to the tournament grounds every 30 minutes, saving you from having to fly through Dalaran each time

5

A tournament lance is mandatory — for the quests in the lists you need to equip a tournament lance. You can grab one from the weapon racks next to the training dummies on the tournament grounds

6

At level 80 all quests are completed with ease — Wrath of the Lich King content is long outdated. Mounted combat, group quests, and the heroic dungeon are soloed without any difficulty

7

Mounted combat mechanics are simple — keep 3 charges of shield (the "Defend" ability), attack with the lance at range, and finish in melee. At high character level you can simply dismount and kill the opponent with your regular abilities — this works for most quests except the final trial
