Get Skullripper mount
Overview

Skullripper is an epic ground mount added in patch 8.0.1 of the Battle for Azeroth expansion. It is a ferocious raptor with a distinctive blood-red coloration and massive claws, dwelling in the Arathi Highlands. Skullripper is a rare elite enemy that prowls east of Dabyrie's Farmstead and north of Go'Shek Farm. When this predator is slain, it can drop an item of the same name that lets you tame an exact copy of the raptor as a mount.
In the mount journal, the description reads: "Clever girl" — a reference to the iconic line from the film Jurassic Park. Skullripper uses an updated raptor model with a unique red-brown coloring and pronounced battle scars.
Why You Want This Mount
- Unique appearance — Skullripper sports a rare red-brown coloration not found on any other raptor mount in the game. The model is detailed: you can make out scars, powerful claws and a characteristic predatory stance
- Relative rarity — the drop chance is around 5%, and access to the rare is restricted by special zone phasing. Many players are unaware of the BfA phase of the Arathi Highlands, so the mount is rarely seen
- Pop-culture reference — the "Clever girl" description in the mount journal will delight fans of the Jurassic Park franchise
- Available to all characters — once learned, the mount appears in the collection for every character on the account
- Quick farming — unlike raid or dungeon mounts, Skullripper can be farmed without a one-attempt-per-day limit. The respawn is 5–10 minutes, allowing many attempts in a single play session
How to Obtain
Skullripper drops from the rare elite raptor of the same name, Skullripper, in the Arathi Highlands. To access this mob, you must switch into the BfA phase of the zone.
- Head to the Arathi Highlands. Use the portal in your faction capital or fly in on a mount from neighboring zones
- Find Zidormi, a bronze dragon who switches the zone's phase. She stands in the southern part of the Arathi Highlands, by Thandol Span (coordinates roughly 38, 90)
- Talk to Zidormi and ask to see the events of the Battle for Azeroth era. The zone will switch into the BfA phase with the rares from the warfronts
- Make your way to the eastern part of the zone — Skullripper patrols the territory east of Dabyrie's Farmstead and north of Go'Shek Farm (coordinates roughly 56.6, 44.5)
- Kill the raptor and grab the Skullripper item if it drops
- If the mount doesn't drop, wait for the respawn (roughly 5–10 minutes) and try again
How to Enter the BfA Phase of the Arathi Highlands
The Arathi Highlands exists in several time phases. Skullripper is available only in the Battle for Azeroth phase, which was created for warfront content. In current versions of the game, warfronts are no longer active, but the rares are still accessible through the phase-switching mechanic.
Switching the Phase via Zidormi
- Fly into the Arathi Highlands by any convenient means (portal, flight, or walking from the Eastern Plaguelands or the Wetlands)
- Head to the south of the zone, to Thandol Span — the bridge connecting the Arathi Highlands with the Wetlands
- Find the NPC Zidormi — she looks like an elven dragon of the bronze flight and is marked on the minimap with a special hourglass icon
- In the dialogue, choose the option "Show me how the Arathi Highlands looked before the invasion"
- The zone will change — warfront bases, rares and resource nodes of the BfA version of the zone will appear
Zidormi's Coordinates
Important Phasing Notes
- Zidormi is available to characters level 50 and above (most reliably from level 51)
- After switching the phase you will be in the BfA version of the zone, where all the warfront rares are visible
- To return to the normal phase, talk to Zidormi again
- If Zidormi doesn't appear, make sure your character has reached the required level
Skullripper — Enemy Details
Skullripper is a ferocious raptor, a rare elite beast of level 52. It is one of the many rare enemies available in the BfA phase of the Arathi Highlands as part of the former warfront content "Battle for Stromgarde."
Location
Skullripper patrols the open territory east of Dabyrie's Farmstead and north of Go'Shek Farm. The raptor is on the surface — you don't need to look for a cave or dungeon entrance.
Coordinates
Combat Notes
- At max level (90 in Midnight) Skullripper is killed in a few seconds and poses no threat whatsoever
- The raptor uses standard melee attacks
- Ordinary raptors may wander around Skullripper; they pose no danger but can interfere if you're playing on a low-level character
Respawn and Loot
Skullripper respawns roughly every 5–10 minutes after being killed. Unlike many other rare mobs, loot from Skullripper is not limited to once per day — you can kill the raptor many times in a single play session and get a chance at the mount each time.
Farming Optimization
Daily Plan
- Log in on a character level 50+ (ideally at max level for an instant kill)
- Teleport to the closest point to the Arathi Highlands (the portal to Ironforge or the hearthstone in the Wetlands)
- Fly into the Arathi Highlands and talk to Zidormi to switch into the BfA phase
- Make your way to coordinates 56.6, 44.5 — Skullripper patrols this territory
- Kill the raptor. If the mount doesn't drop, wait 5–10 minutes and kill it again
- Repeat until you get the mount or until your play time runs out
Farming Math
With a drop chance of ~5% and a kill every 7–8 minutes (accounting for the respawn):
- In 1 hour — about 7–8 kills, chance to get the mount ~30%
- In 2 hours — about 15 kills, chance to get the mount ~54%
- In 3 hours — about 22 kills, chance to get the mount ~68%
- On average — the mount drops after 20 kills (about 2.5 hours of farming)
Of course, these are average values — you may get lucky on the first kill or get unlucky even after 50 attempts.
Farming Along the Way
While you're in the BfA phase of the Arathi Highlands, it makes sense to kill the zone's other rares at the same time — many of them drop unique mounts, pets and toys:
- Overseer Krix drops the mount
Lil' Donkey (~7% chance) - Yogursa drops a pet and a transmog
- Plaguefeather drops a toy
- Other rares drop transmog, resources and items for achievements
Tips
Use the RareScanner or HandyNotes addon — these addons mark the locations of rare mobs on the map and show whether the mob is currently alive. This will save time searching
Check the zone phase — if you don't see warfront bases and rares with silver portraits, you're in the wrong phase. Go back to Zidormi and switch
Skullripper is on the surface — unlike Overseer Krix, who hides in a mine, the raptor patrols open ground. It's easy to spot from afar by the silver portrait frame and the minimap icon
Farm while waiting — while you wait for Skullripper's respawn, kill other rares nearby. That way you get extra chances at valuable loot
Ground mount only — note that Skullripper cannot fly. It is a ground raptor, suited to collectors and fans of predatory mounts
Account-bound mount — once learned, the mount is available to all characters on the account. Farm on whichever character finds it easiest to reach the Arathi Highlands
Combine with farming other warfront rares — dozens of rares with unique loot are available in the BfA phase of the Arathi Highlands. A single visit to the zone can bring several valuable rewards at once
Don't confuse the phases — in newer versions the Arathi Highlands received new content (the Sacred Flames), but Skullripper is available only in the old BfA phase via Zidormi, not in the modern version of the zone

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
