Reins of the Smoky Charger

Game iconReins of the Smoky Charger is a ground mount added in the Battle for Azeroth expansion (patch 8.0.1). This is a dark, smoky-colored warhorse belonging to one of the oldest horse breeds of Kul Tiras. The mount is purchased from Quartermaster Alcorn in Drustvar for 10,000 gold upon reaching Exalted reputation with the Order of Embers faction.

"One of the oldest breeds of horses from Kul Tiras. These steeds took part in many charges during the war with the Drust."

Purchase Requirements

To acquire the Reins of the Smoky Charger, you must meet the following conditions:

  • An Alliance faction character of level 10 or higher
  • The learned skill Apprentice Riding
  • Exalted reputation with the Order of Embers faction
  • 10,000 gold for the purchase

Where to Find Quartermaster Alcorn

Quartermaster Alcorn is a vendor for the Order of Embers faction. He is located in the settlement of Arom's Stand in the Drustvar zone on the continent of Kul Tiras.

In addition to the Reins of the Smoky Charger, Quartermaster Alcorn also sells a second mount — the Game iconReins of the Wakerest Dusk Gryphon (a flying mount, also requiring Exalted).

How to Reach Exalted with the Order of Embers

The Order of Embers is an Alliance faction located in Drustvar. Reputation gains begin with the storyline quest chain in this zone and continue at max level through world quests.

Storyline Quests

Completing the main storyline of Drustvar grants reputation up to Friendly. This is a mandatory first stage, which also unlocks access to world quests.

World Quests

The main source of reputation after reaching Friendly. World quests in Drustvar refresh every few hours and grant from 75 to 350 reputation points each. To unlock world quests, you must:

  • Reach max level
  • Complete the achievement "Uniting Kul Tiras" (reach Friendly with the three main Kul Tiras factions: Order of Embers, Proudmoore Admiralty, Storm's Wake)

Emissary Quests

When the Order of Embers becomes an active emissary, completing 4 world quests for this faction rewards a bonus of 1,500 reputation points. Keep an eye on the emissary rotation on the map.

Contract: Order of Embers

The Game iconContract: Order of Embers is an item crafted via the Inscription profession. With an active contract, each completed world quest in Kul Tiras and Zandalar additionally grants 10 reputation points with the Order of Embers. The contract lasts 7 days, and only one contract can be active at a time. The contract can be purchased on the Auction House.

Island Expeditions

During Island Expeditions, you may receive Overseas Spices, which can be turned in to an NPC in Drustvar for additional reputation.

Bonus Events

During the weekly bonus event "World Quest Bonus Event," all reputation gained from world quests is increased by 50%. Use these weeks for accelerated farming.

Tips for Farming Reputation

  • Complete all available world quests in Drustvar daily — this is the main and most consistent source of reputation
  • Activate a contract via the Auction House to gain additional reputation from any world quests on both continents
  • Don't miss emissaries for the Order of Embers — the 1,500-point bonus significantly speeds up progress
  • Use bonus weeks with increased world quest rewards
  • The path from Friendly to Exalted takes approximately 2–3 weeks of active play with daily quest completion
