Spectral Hawkstrider — How to Get the Mount
Spectral Hawkstrider

Spectral Hawkstrider is a rare ground mount added in Patch 12.0.1 with the launch of the Midnight expansion. A ghostly version of the classic Silvermoon Cavalry hawkstrider, it stands out with its translucent body and mystical glow, clearly distinct from the bright and colorful hawkstriders of Silvermoon.
The mount drops from the final boss of Windrunner Spire dungeon on Mythic difficulty. The drop chance is approximately 1%, so prepare for regular farming.

Where Is Windrunner Spire
The dungeon is located in the southern part of Eversong Woods, just north of the Deatholme Ruins. It is one of eight dungeons in the Midnight expansion, included in the Mythic+ rotation for the first season.
How to Get There
- The easiest way to reach Eversong Woods is through Silvermoon City. Portals to Silvermoon are available from capital cities of both factions.
- From Silvermoon, head south through Eversong Woods.
- The dungeon entrance is located at the coordinates:
An alternative method is to use the Timeways system. The Timeways portal is in Silvermoon, northwest of the city center. Inside you will find portals to all seasonal dungeons, including Windrunner Spire.
Step-by-Step Guide to Obtaining
Step 1 — Make Sure Your Character Is Ready
To enter the dungeon on Mythic difficulty, your character must reach level 80. The recommended item level for a comfortable Mythic 0 clear is 580 or higher. For Mythic+, you will need an appropriate key.
Step 2 — Form a Group or Use the Finder
Windrunner Spire is a 5-player dungeon. For Mythic 0, you will need to form a group manually through the built-in group finder or through your community. For Mythic+, you need a mythic key for this dungeon.
Step 3 — Clear the Dungeon to the Final Boss
Windrunner Spire has four bosses that must be killed in order:
- Emberdawn — a dragon-hawk nesting in the Spire gardens. Places fire marks on players that explode after 6 seconds, leaving dangerous zones on the floor.
- Derelict Duo — the banshee Kalis and her loyal abomination Zap. Kalis attacks with dark magic, while Zap applies bile marks that create poisonous zones.
- Commander Kroluk — the vengeful spirit of an orc who fell during the Second War.
- Restless Heart — the final boss, born from the grief and anger of the Windrunner family. This is the boss that drops the Spectral Hawkstrider.
Step 4 — Kill the Restless Heart
Key mechanics of the final boss:
- Arrow Rain — the boss unleashes a barrage of arrows over an area, leaving turbulent arrows on the ground. Move out of the affected zones.
- Bolt Gale — the boss targets a random player and fires a stream of arrows in a cone toward them for 5 seconds. Do not stand in front of the boss if it targets you.
- Squall Leap — upon leaping, the boss deals damage to all players and applies a stacking effect. Touch the turbulent arrows on the floor to remove this effect.
- Billowing Wind — at 100 energy, the boss releases an expanding ring of wind. Use the turbulent arrows for a boost to jump over the wave.
After killing the boss, check the loot — the Spectral Hawkstrider may be among the drops.
Step 5 — Repeat Your Farm
Since March 17, 2026, Midnight dungeons on Mythic 0 difficulty have switched to a daily reset instead of weekly. You can run Windrunner Spire on Mythic 0 once per day per character. Additional attempts come from Mythic+ runs, where the mount can drop from the chest at the end of the dungeon.
Farm Optimization
Attempts per Week
Thanks to the daily Mythic 0 reset, one character gets up to 7 attempts per week through M0 alone. Each Mythic+ run is an additional chance. If you have 3 characters at level 80, that is already 21+ attempts per week.
Probability Calculation
With a ~1% drop chance and 7 attempts per week on one character:
| Characters | Attempts per Week (M0) | Chance to Get Within a Month |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 7 | ~25% |
| 3 | 21 | ~57% |
| 5 | 35 | ~76% |
The more characters you use, the faster you will get the mount. A single Mythic 0 run takes 15–25 minutes depending on group composition.
Best Class for Farming
Any class works for quick Mythic 0 clears in a group. However, if you are creating alts specifically for farming, consider classes with high demand in the group finder — tanks and healers find groups significantly faster.
Tips and Useful Information
- The mount can drop from both the boss loot on Mythic 0 and the chest at the end of a Mythic+ run. Both methods work in parallel — use both.
- The dungeon is part of the Mythic+ rotation for Midnight's first season, so keys for Windrunner Spire appear regularly.
- This dungeon also drops useful Defender-level gear (ilvl 246 on M0), so even an unlucky run is not a waste of time.
- The other hawkstrider mount from Midnight dungeons is the
Lucent Hawkstrider, which drops from the final boss of Terrace of the Magisters. If you are a collector, it makes sense to farm both dungeons in parallel. - Mount journal description: "A charger of the Silvermoon Cavalry formation — a companion from the past, forever guiding its rider onward."
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the mount drop on Normal or Heroic difficulty? No. The Spectral Hawkstrider only drops on Mythic difficulty — Mythic 0 or Mythic+.
Does the daily reset affect the mount drop chance? Yes. Since March 17, 2026, Mythic 0 resets daily, and each day you get a new attempt at the mount.
Is the mount bound to a character or to the account? The mount is bind on pickup and is added to your mount collection, after which it is available to all characters on the account.
Can the drop chance be increased? No. The chance is fixed and does not depend on key level or other factors. The only way to speed things up is to increase the number of attempts through alts and Mythic+ runs.
