Overview

Staff of Siphoned Essences

Game iconStaff of Siphoned Essences is a blue two-handed staff with Intellect, suited for mages, warlocks, priests, druids, shamans, and monks. The model belongs to the Cataclysm-era staff family: a dark shaft wrapped in bone and shadow elements, topped with a skull from which purple energy seeps. The silhouette is grim and "necromantic," fitting nicely into shadow and corrupted looks.

The staff drops in the Grim Batol dungeon from the final boss, Erudax. At the current level 90 in Midnight this is outdated content, so the staff's value is purely cosmetic for a transmog collection rather than its stats.

Source

The staff's source is a boss drop in the dungeon, with no quests or reputation involved.

  • Dungeon: Grim Batol, located in the Twilight Highlands zone in the Eastern Kingdoms.
  • Boss: Erudax, "the Duke of Below" — the dungeon's last boss.
  • Acquisition type: a random drop from the boss's loot, with a low drop chance (a few percent per run).
  • There is no limit on the number of attempts: the dungeon can be reset and rerun as many times in a row as you like.
  • No group is needed — at level 90 the boss is killed solo in a few seconds.

To reach the entrance, head to the Twilight Highlands and descend to the foot of the Grim Batol mountain fortress in the west of the zone. Inside, go straight to the final hall — on outdated difficulty the intermediate bosses pose no threat.

Who it suits visually

  • Fits dark "necromantic" cloth sets with bone and shadow accents.
  • Pairs well with a purple-and-black color scheme — for example, looks in the spirit of shadow magic and corruption.
  • Looks great in the hands of a Shadow priest or a warlock, reinforcing the soul-draining theme.
  • Contrasts with the light "nature" sets of a druid — a debatable but expressive combination.

Tips

1

Enter the dungeon at level 90 on Normal mode and run straight to the final hall — the intermediate loot is not needed.

2

Erudax is killed in a few seconds, so the entire run together with the travel takes literally a couple of minutes.

3

If the staff doesn't drop, leave the dungeon and reset it through the group menu, then enter again — resetting speeds up the farm.

4

The biggest factor in run speed is your class's mobility: it's most convenient to farm on characters with dashes and speed boosts.

5

The appearance is saved in the account-wide wardrobe, so there is no need to obtain it again on other characters.

6

An identical-looking staff from the same boss can be picked up in the classic version of the dungeon, if you happen to be there.
