Steelforged Dagger — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Steelforged Dagger is a one-handed dagger of rare quality, added to World of Warcraft with the Warlords of Draenor expansion (patch 6.0.2). It is a crafted weapon: it is forged by masters of Blacksmithing using the corresponding plans.
Visually, the dagger is built in the distinctive style of Draenor smithing. A short, broad blade with a faceted point, a massive guard, and a wrapped grip create the image of a rough, utilitarian frontier weapon — free of ornate decoration, with an emphasis on function. The color scheme is based on cold blued metal with muted steel highlights.
The dagger suits all specializations that use one-handed daggers: rogues, druids, mages, priests, warlocks, shamans, and demon hunters. Since it is a low-item-level weapon, its main value today is as a transmogrification appearance rather than for its combat stats.
Source
The Steelforged Dagger does not drop from bosses and is not sold for currency in finished form — it is crafted by a character with the Blacksmithing profession. To obtain the appearance, you must either forge the dagger yourself or order it from another player who is a blacksmith.
Plans. The recipe is learned from the item
Plans: Steelforged Dagger. The plans are sold by garrison blacksmith vendors:
- Auria Irondreamer — in the Alliance garrison, Lunarfall.
- Orgek Ironhand — in the Horde garrison, Frostwall.
The price of the plans is 1 unit of the currency
Secret of Draenor Blacksmithing. This currency is produced through the daily blacksmithing work order in the garrison, so with a leveled profession it accumulates on its own.
Reagents. Crafting a single dagger requires:
- 100
Truesteel Ingot — the main material, made by a blacksmith. - 20
True Iron Ore — gathered via Mining or bought from the auction house. - 20
Blackrock Ore — gathered via Mining or bought from the auction house.
The main difficulty is the Truesteel Ingots: in Warlords of Draenor their production was tied to a daily cooldown. Today, with Draenor content fully unlocked, the easiest approach is to buy the ore on the auction house and smelt it, or order a finished dagger from a player with leveled Blacksmithing.
The finished item is bind-on-equip, so it can be freely bought from another player or on the auction house — the appearance is added to your collection once you equip the dagger.
Who it suits visually
- It harmonizes with plate sets from Draenor smithing of the same period — a unified style of metal and form.
- It fits frontier and Draenor mercenary looks: rough, undecorated steel pairs with leather and mail sets in muted earthy tones.
- It looks good alongside the other one-handed steel piece from this same line — for example, the
Steelforged Saber for a dual-blade fighter look. - The cold blued metal of the blade contrasts with warm golden and crimson sets — a debatable but expressive choice for rogues.
- Its neutral shape, with no pronounced faction symbolism, makes the dagger a versatile piece for a wide range of concepts.
Tips
If you don't have Blacksmithing, the easiest option is to order the dagger from a player through dedicated channels or to look for a finished copy on the auction house — the item is bind-on-equip.
Draenor ore is cheap today, so a full set of reagents usually costs a modest sum of gold.
The appearance is added to your collection once you equip the dagger — you don't have to keep or store the item itself afterward.
When crafting it yourself, it is more efficient to stockpile Truesteel Ingots in advance through the daily blacksmithing work order in the garrison.
For a single purchase of reagents it makes sense to gather several pieces from the Draenor line at once — the saber and the hammer — to close out several appearances in one go.
The plans are learned once per character, but once obtained the appearance is available account-wide through the transmogrification collection.
Garrison vendors become available after you build the smithy in your garrison — without it you can't buy the plans.
Draenor content is fully soloable at the current level, so gathering ore and currency does not require a group.
