Get Stormhide Salamanther mount
Overview

Stormhide Salamanther is an epic ground mount added in patch 10.0.0 of the Dragonflight expansion. It is a large lizard saturated with storm energy, featuring purple hide and electrical discharges across its body. The mount is purchased from Mythressa in the Sapphire Enclave of Valdrakken for 2,000 Elemental Overflow — a currency that is gathered from Primal Storm events.
The item description states that when storm energy fills a creature, it simply grows larger and calmer. Few salamanthers allow themselves to be ridden, but storm-spawned ones are a notable exception. When you use the /mountspecial command, the salamanther jumps up and catches a passing fly — a unique animation that nods to the behavior of lizards.
Why You Want This Mount
- Guaranteed acquisition — the mount is bought from a vendor for currency. No RNG and no random drops — save up 2,000 Elemental Overflow and buy the mount.
- Fast farming — with focused grinding, the entire farm takes 4–6 hours of active play. It is one of the fastest mounts in terms of effort-to-reward ratio.
- Unique model — the salamanther belongs to the lizard family of the Dragon Isles. The purple storm coloring stands out against other variants (Ancient, Coralscale).
- Available to all characters — once learned, the mount becomes available on every character on the account.
- Fun animation — the unique /mountspecial animation with the fly catch makes the mount lively and memorable.
- No reputation required — unlike many Dragonflight mounts, the purchase does not require reputation with any faction.
How to Obtain
To purchase the mount you need to save up 2,000 Elemental Overflow by taking part in Primal Storm events on the Dragon Isles.
- Make sure your character has reached at least level 60 and has access to the Dragon Isles
- Open the Dragon Isles map and find zones with active Primal Storms — they are marked with special elemental icons
- Travel to a zone with an active storm and kill mobs within the invasion area. Every mob is guaranteed to drop Elemental Overflow
- Accumulate 2,000 units of Elemental Overflow
- Travel to Valdrakken and find Mythressa in the Sapphire Enclave
- Purchase the
Stormhide Salamanther and use the item to learn the mount
Mythressa — the Mount Vendor
Mythressa is a dracthyr, a budding researcher of the elements. She is neutral toward both factions and sells goods for Elemental Overflow. Besides the Stormhide Salamanther, her stock includes:
- The Raging Tempest gear set (item level 359) — weapons and armor of all types
- Stormie — a battle pet for 1,000 Elemental Overflow
- Spectral Flame — a battle pet for 1,000 Elemental Overflow
Mythressa can be found in two locations:
- Valdrakken — the Sapphire Enclave (38.08, 37.60)
- The Forbidden Reach — Morqut Village (35.72, 59.86)
Both instances sell the same goods, so buy wherever is more convenient for you.
Primal Storms — Farming Elemental Overflow
Primal Storms are cyclical elemental invasions on the Dragon Isles. Every three hours an invasion begins in two of the four zones, lasting two hours, followed by an hour-long break.
Invasion Zones
Storms occur in the four leveling zones of the Dragon Isles:
Storm Types
There are four types of invasions, each with unique mobs and bosses:
- Thunderstorms — electrical elementals and storm creatures
- Sandstorms — earth elementals and stone golems
- Firestorms — fire elementals and lava creatures
- Snowstorms — ice elementals and frost beings
How to Farm Efficiently
- Open the group finder (the I key) and type "Primal Storm" — this lets you quickly find a group for mass farming
- Kill mobs in the invasion zone. Each mob drops Elemental Overflow with a 100% chance
- Kill rare mobs (marked with stars) — they give more currency per kill
- Switch between the two active zones if one of them has few mobs
- If you play a class with AoE abilities, you will be able to kill groups of mobs significantly faster
How Much to Farm
With active group farming, accumulating 2,000 Elemental Overflow takes roughly 4–6 hours. The exact time depends on your class, the number of players in the zone, and mob respawn speed. You can split the farm into several sessions — the currency has no weekly cap.
Other Salamanthers
The Stormhide Salamanther is one of several lizard mounts of this family in Dragonflight. If you like the model, take a look at the related variants:
Ancient Salamanther — green coloring, dropped from rare mobs on the Dragon Isles
Coralscale Salamanther — red-orange, a reward for the "Storm Chaser" achievement (updated in patch 10.2.6)
Tips
Use the group finder — farming in a group of 5 is significantly more efficient than going solo. Mobs die faster, and every participant gets loot.
Watch the storm schedule — storms are active two hours out of three. Plan your farm for the start of an invasion to use all the available time.
Don't spend the currency too early — Mythressa also sells gear for Elemental Overflow. If your goal is the mount, do not buy equipment until you have saved up 2,000 units.
Farm at max level — at level 80 (The War Within) the Primal Storm mobs die almost instantly, which greatly speeds up the farm.
Check both of Mythressa's locations — if you are on the Forbidden Reach, there is no need to fly to Valdrakken. Mythressa in Morqut Village sells the same goods.
The mount is account-wide — farm on your strongest character and use the mount on any of them.
Combine it with achievements — while you farm Elemental Overflow, complete the related Primal Storms achievement series along the way. Killing 200 mobs of each type in each zone leads to a meta-achievement that rewards the Coralscale Salamanther.
