Stormtip — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Stormtip is an epic one-handed intellect dagger added to World of Warcraft in patch 3.1 (Wrath of the Lich King) alongside the opening of the Ulduar raid. Visually it is a short blade with a faceted pommel and a curled crossguard in cold gray-blue tones — the model evokes the weapons of the titan keepers that are characteristic of Ulduar.
The dagger appeals to caster classes: the blend of intellect with haste and versatility makes the model thematic for the "magic one-handed weapon" sections of a transmog wardrobe. The silhouette is elegant and not overloaded with detail, so it fits both austere and ornate ensembles.
Source
The item drops in the Ulduar raid from the Assembly of Iron encounter — a trio of three bosses: Steelbreaker, Runemaster Molgeim, and Stormcaller Brundir.
- Difficulty: 10 players.
- Drop chance: roughly 10% per encounter kill.
- Limit: one attempt per week per character (the standard Ulduar lockout).
- Group or solo: at max level the raid is farmed solo.
The Assembly of Iron is one of the first Ulduar encounters after the complex's opening bosses. At level 90 the fight is killed in a single ability rotation: the trio of keepers does not manage to deploy their phase buffs and falls before the death runes and chain lightning go off.
Who It Suits Visually
- Sets themed around the titan keepers of Ulduar — the dagger harmonizes with the gray-blue and bronze ensembles of tiers 8 and 8.5.
- "Storm mage" styled looks: pairing with cloth sets in a cold palette — blue, turquoise, and silver shades.
- Stealthy caster-rogue or duelist-mage looks: the compact silhouette feels natural in the off-hand alongside a wand or focus.
- Contrasting sets in warm tones — the dagger will stand out with its cold range as an accent piece.
Tips
1
The fastest way to obtain the item is to enter Ulduar at level 90 solo and focus on killing the Assembly of Iron: the other bosses are optional for transmog.
2
It is most convenient to farm on classes with high movement speed and steady area damage — death knight, paladin, demon hunter.
3
The fight is locked weekly together with the rest of the Ulduar lockout: if you have already entered the raid this week, there will be no attempt — keep this in mind when rotating alts.
4
Loot from the encounter follows personal loot rules at max level: your character's class affects the chance of seeing this particular dagger.
5
Switching your specialization to a caster role before resetting personal loot raises the chance for caster items, including this dagger.
6
Alongside farming Stormtip, Ulduar drops other collectible items and achievements, so it is convenient to combine the weekly raid run with transmog farming and clearing achievements in a single visit.
