Overview

Striped Dawnsaber

Game iconReins of the Striped Dawnsaber is a ground mount of the Alliance faction, added to World of Warcraft in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (patch 3.2.0). It is a graceful saber of light coloring with characteristic dark stripes across its hide. According to the in-game description, night elves once believed that encountering this pale-furred breed of saber in the wild was a bad omen.

The mount is purchased from the vendor Lelanai for gold. It is one of the four basic racial sabers of the night elves, available to all Alliance characters who hold Exalted reputation with Darnassus.

Why you want this mount

  • A night elf racial classic — the Striped Dawnsaber is part of the set of four basic sabers that any Alliance character can collect. Mount collectors should pick up all four
  • Minimal cost — the mount sells for just 1 gold coin, making it one of the cheapest in the game
  • Unique light coloring — unlike most dark and striped sabers, the dawnsaber stands out with its pale hide, setting it apart among the racial mounts
  • Available account-wide — once purchased, the mount appears in the collection of all your Alliance characters
  • Easy to obtain — no need to farm a drop or complete long quest chains. Simply buy it from the vendor

Where to buy

The mount vendor is Lelanai, the saber trainer. After the burning of Teldrassil, she relocated to the new night elf capital.

Bel'ameth (Amirdrassil) — main location

In the current version of the game, Lelanai is found in Bel'ameth — the night elf settlement beneath the World Tree Amirdrassil on the Dragon Isles.

How to reach Bel'ameth:

  1. From Stormwind: head to the Mage Quarter, enter the Wizard's Sanctum, and go upstairs. In the far room you'll find a portal to Bel'ameth
  2. From Valdrakken: fly west across the Ohn'ahran Plains, past the Emerald Dream — Amirdrassil lies on the western coast of the Dragon Isles

How to obtain — step-by-step guide

For night elves

Night elf characters do not need additional reputation — Lelanai sells the sabers without restriction.

  1. Reach Bel'ameth via the portal from Stormwind (Mage Quarter → Wizard's Sanctum)
  2. Find Lelanai at coordinates 51.4, 66.0
  3. Buy the Reins of the Striped Dawnsaber for 1 gold coin
  4. Use the item — the mount will be added to your collection

For other Alliance races

Humans, dwarves, gnomes, draenei, worgen, Alliance pandaren, and other races must first reach Exalted reputation with the Darnassus faction.

  1. Grind your reputation with Darnassus up to the Exalted level (see the section below)
  2. Reach Bel'ameth
  3. Buy the mount from Lelanai for 1 gold coin

Grinding reputation with Darnassus

If your character is not a night elf, you'll need to reach Exalted reputation with the Darnassus faction. Here are the most efficient methods.

Darnassus Tabard (the fastest method)

Buy the Game iconDarnassus Tabard from the faction quartermaster for 10 gold at Friendly reputation. With the tabard equipped, you'll earn Darnassus reputation for killing mobs in dungeons. At max level (90), run any dungeons — reputation builds up quickly.

Turning in cloth

Find the Darnassus cloth quartermaster and hand in, in sequence:

  • 60 pieces of Wool Cloth
  • 60 pieces of Silk Cloth
  • 60 pieces of Mageweave Cloth
  • After that, a repeatable quest for turning in Runecloth opens up — every 20 pieces of Runecloth grants 75 reputation points

To build up from Friendly to Exalted you'll need roughly 780 stacks (15,600 pieces) of Runecloth. The cloth can be bought at the auction house or farmed in old dungeons.

Quests in night elf zones

Complete quests in the night elf starting zones — Teldrassil, Darkshore, and Ashenvale. Every quest grants Darnassus reputation. This method is slower but requires no gold.

Argent Tournament

At the Argent Tournament in Icecrown you can earn Darnassus Commendation Badges through daily champion quests. Each badge grants 250 reputation points.

All basic night elf sabers

Lelanai sells four basic and three swift sabers. If you've already grinded your reputation, it makes sense to buy them all at once.

Tips

1

Buy all the sabers at once — since you've made it to Lelanai with Exalted reputation, pick up all seven mounts in one go. The total cost will come to just 34 gold coins

2

Darnassus Tabard + dungeons — the fastest way to build reputation at max level. Equip the tabard and run any dungeons through the group finder

3

Check your reputation — night elf characters start at Exalted reputation with Darnassus, while other Alliance races start at Friendly. Turning in cloth and wearing the tabard in dungeons will help you reach Exalted quickly

4

Portal to Bel'ameth — located in the Wizard's Sanctum in Stormwind's Mage Quarter. If the portal isn't available, you may need to complete the main Dragonflight 10.2 story campaign

5

Darnassus is no longer accessible — after the events of Battle for Azeroth, Teldrassil is burned, and the old city of Darnassus can't be visited in the current version of the game. All night elf vendors have moved to Bel'ameth

6

For collectors — the Striped Dawnsaber is among the mounts counted toward your overall collection total. Each mount brings you closer to collecting rewards
