Overview

Subterranean Magmammoth

Subterranean Magmammoth is an epic ground mount added in patch 10.1 "Embers of Neltharion" of the Dragonflight expansion. It is a massive blue magmammoth, awakened from a long slumber in the depths of Zaralek Cavern. The mount is purchased from the vendor Sabhira in the city of Loamm for 100 Coveted Baubles.

The mount journal description reads: "Awakened from a long slumber, this beast has never once seen the light of day." The Subterranean Magmammoth is one of several magmammoth variants inhabiting Zaralek Cavern, and the only one that can be acquired with public-event currency.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Guaranteed acquisition — the mount is purchased from a vendor rather than dropping with a percentage chance. You only need to accumulate the required amount of currency
  • Unique design — a blue magmammoth with dripping lava and a massive build. The model differs from the orange and red magmammoth variants available from other sources
  • Available to all characters — once learned, the mount appears in the collection on every character of the account
  • No reputation required — unlike many Dragonflight mounts, purchasing the Subterranean Magmammoth does not require a certain reputation level with the Loamm Niffen
  • Counts toward achievements — the mount is tallied in the mount counter for the "Mountacular" achievement series

Requirements

  • A character of level 10 or higher
  • Apprentice riding skill (regular riding)
  • 100 Coveted Baubles
  • Access to Zaralek Cavern (unlocked during the Dragonflight campaign)

How to Obtain

  1. Unlock access to Zaralek Cavern by completing the opening quests of the patch 10.1 campaign
  2. Reach the city of Loamm — the Niffen capital in Zaralek Cavern
  3. Accumulate 100 Dug-Up Aromatic Coins by participating in the zone's public events
  4. Exchange the coins for Coveted Baubles with Spinzo in Loamm (1:1 rate)
  5. Buy the Subterranean Magmammoth from Sabhira for 100 Coveted Baubles
  6. Use the item to learn the mount

How to Reach Zaralek Cavern

Zaralek Cavern is an underground zone located beneath the Ohn'ahran Plains on the Dragon Isles. Access to it is unlocked during the patch 10.1 campaign.

First Visit

  1. Pick up the patch 10.1 campaign's starting quest in Valdrakken
  2. Follow the quest chain — it will guide you to the entrance of Zaralek Cavern
  3. The entrance is located in the southern part of the Ohn'ahran Plains

Quick Access (after unlocking)

After your first visit, a flight point appears in the city of Loamm. You can also use the portal from Valdrakken to Zaralek Cavern, located next to the portals to other Dragon Isles zones.

Currency — Coveted Baubles

Coveted Baubles are the currency you spend with Sabhira. The baubles themselves cannot be obtained directly — they are acquired by exchanging Dug-Up Aromatic Coins.

How to Get Coveted Baubles

  1. Earn Dug-Up Aromatic Coins by participating in Zaralek Cavern events
  2. Approach Spinzo in Loamm (she stands next to Sabhira)
  3. Exchange the coins for Coveted Baubles at a rate of 1 coin = 1 bauble

To purchase the Subterranean Magmammoth you will need 100 Dug-Up Aromatic Coins, which you exchange for 100 Coveted Baubles.

Farming Dug-Up Aromatic Coins

Dug-Up Aromatic Coins are the main public-event currency of Zaralek Cavern. They drop from reward containers for participating in the zone's various activities.

Coin Sources

Source Coins per Completion Frequency
Public events (yellow horn on the map) 3–9 Always available
"Researchers Under Fire" event (3 tasks) 15 Weekly
"Researchers Under Fire" event (full) up to 60 Weekly
Zaralek Cavern world quests 3–5 On refresh
Treasures and rare enemies 1–3 On discovery

"Researchers Under Fire" Event

"Researchers Under Fire" is the largest weekly event in Zaralek Cavern and the most efficient source of coins. The event takes place in the Dreka'Zera Ruins, in the central part of the zone.

  • Schedule: every hour, starting at :30 minutes (for example, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30)
  • Duration: approximately 25 minutes
  • Maximum tasks: 12 per event
  • Rewards are credited weekly — your best result of the week is counted

Rewards are handed out in stages: for every 3 completed tasks you receive a container with coins, Loamm Niffen reputation, and gear. Completing all 12 tasks grants up to 60 coins per week.

Public Events (Yellow Horns)

Yellow horn icons regularly appear on the Zaralek Cavern map — these are public events. Completing each one rewards you with a container:

  • Jangling Muddy Pouch (blue quality) — contains 3–5 coins
  • Clattering Muddy Pouch (epic quality) — contains 6–9 coins

The events are always available and refresh throughout the day. Watch for new events appearing on the map and complete them as you discover them.

Optimal Farming Strategy

  1. Complete "Researchers Under Fire" every week — it is the largest single source of coins. Try to finish all 12 tasks for the maximum reward
  2. Between major events, complete public tasks — ride around the zone and participate in events marked with yellow horns on the map
  3. Don't ignore world quests — they grant a small amount of coins in addition to the main rewards
  4. Farm on multiple characters — Coveted Baubles are account-bound, so you can earn coins on alts and exchange them for baubles on any character

With active farming you can accumulate 100 coins in roughly 1–2 weeks. If you are short on time, focus on the weekly "Researchers Under Fire" event and the major public tasks.

Sabhira's Other Wares

Sabhira also sells the following items for Coveted Baubles:

Item Cost Type
Subterranean Magmammoth 100 baubles Mount
Flarendo the Furious 400 baubles Mount
Adamant Scalebrood 50 baubles Pet

If you plan to collect all the items, you will need a total of 550 Coveted Baubles.

Tips

1

The Subterranean Magmammoth is Sabhira's most affordable mount. At 100 baubles it is the optimal first purchase if you want a mount. Flarendo the Furious costs four times as much

2

Spinzo stands next to Sabhira — you won't have to travel far to exchange coins for baubles. Both vendors are located in the center of Loamm at coordinates 55.9, 55.4

3

The currency is account-bound — Coveted Baubles can be earned on any character. This is especially useful if you have several level 70+ characters

4

No reputation required — unlike many mounts from Dragonflight zones, purchasing the Subterranean Magmammoth does not require a certain reputation level with the Loamm Niffen

5

The mount is ground-only — the Subterranean Magmammoth cannot fly. Keep this in mind if you are looking for a versatile mount for flying

6

The "Researchers Under Fire" event is marked on the map — a large horn in the center of Zaralek Cavern indicates the event's location. Arrive early so you don't miss the start

7

Don't spend coins on other items at Spinzo's — besides baubles, Spinzo sells chests with Dragonflight crest fragments. If your goal is the mount, exchange all your coins only for Coveted Baubles
