Get Surf Jelly mount
Overview

Surf Jelly is a rare underwater mount added in the Battle for Azeroth expansion (patch 8.0.1). It's a translucent turquoise jellyfish that you can ride underwater. The model is a recolor of the
Deepcrawler mount from the Legion expansion.
The mount drops from Island Expeditions — content introduced in Battle for Azeroth. The drop chance is extremely low, so be prepared for a lengthy farm.
"The time between the bite and full consumption is short enough to make you reconsider swimming in the Great Sea."
Why You Want This Mount
- Rarity. One of the hardest-to-get mounts from Island Expeditions — a drop chance below 1%
- Unique appearance. A turquoise translucent jellyfish — one of the few jellyfish mounts in the game (alongside the
Deepcrawler) - Underwater travel. Increases swim speed by 100%, making it useful for underwater content
- Account-bound. Once obtained, the mount is available on all characters on your account
Requirements
- A character at level 10 or higher
- Apprentice Riding skill
- Access to Island Expeditions in Boralus (Alliance) or Dazar'alor (Horde)
- For the Horde you must complete the introductory quest chain in Zuldazar; for the Alliance — in Tiragarde Sound
How to Obtain the Surf Jelly
There are two ways to obtain this mount: a direct drop upon completing an Island Expedition and a drop from Reclaimed Treasure Chests.
Method 1 — Direct Drop from an Expedition
The Surf Jelly can drop as a reward upon completing an Island Expedition if certain creature types were present on the island:
- Makrura (crab people)
- Murlocs
- Naga
- Saurok (lizard people)
The presence of these creatures on the island is a mandatory condition. If your expedition only featured other enemy types, the mount cannot drop. The drop chance is estimated at below 1% even on Mythic difficulty.
Method 2 — Reclaimed Treasure Chests
The Surf Jelly can also drop from any Reclaimed Treasure Chest — both blue and epic quality. The chests are purchased with Seafarer's Dubloons from special vendors:
- Blue chests (rare) — cost 175 dubloons
- Green chests (uncommon) — cost 120 dubloons
The chance of obtaining the mount from a chest is estimated at roughly 5%, which is significantly higher than a direct drop. That's why buying chests is considered the more efficient farming method.
Where to Start Island Expeditions
Alliance
Head to Boralus (Tiragarde Sound). The Island Expeditions table is located in the harbor.
- Group queue: use the expeditions table
- Solo queue: speak with Flynn Fairwind next to the table
Horde
Head to Dazar'alor (Zuldazar). The expeditions table is located in the port.
- Group queue: use the expeditions table
- Solo queue: speak with Captain Rez'okun next to the table
The solo queue was added in patch 9.1.5 and lets you run expeditions alone with two NPC companions.
How to Farm Seafarer's Dubloons
Seafarer's Dubloons are a currency earned by completing Island Expeditions. Here are the main sources:
- Seafarer's Coffer — drops upon completing an expedition, contains 1–3 dubloons
- Wanderer's Bag — a rare reward, contains 4–8 dubloons
- Bag of Plundered Goods — a very rare reward with several dubloons
- Silver rating — 1 additional dubloon
- Gold rating — 2 additional dubloons
For maximum farming speed, it's recommended to run expeditions on Normal difficulty, since the difference in rewards between Normal and Mythic difficulty is negligible, while normal expeditions are completed significantly faster.
Chest Vendors
Reclaimed Treasure Chests are sold by vendors next to the expeditions table:
- Alliance: the dubloon vendor in Boralus harbor
- Horde: the dubloon vendor in Dazar'alor port
The chest selection rotates weekly and matches the currently available islands. Since the Surf Jelly can drop from any chest, you can buy chests every week regardless of their name.
Tips for Optimizing Your Farm
- Farm on Normal difficulty. Clear speed matters more than difficulty — a normal expedition takes 3–5 minutes at high levels, and the mount's drop chance doesn't depend much on difficulty.
- Pay attention to the creatures on the island. A direct drop requires makrura, murlocs, naga or saurok. If the island has other creatures, the mount drop is impossible, but you'll still earn dubloons to buy chests.
- Save dubloons for chests. Buying Reclaimed Treasure Chests gives roughly a 5% chance each — far more efficient than hoping for a direct drop (below 1%).
- Use the solo queue. If you don't have a group, the solo mode via Flynn Fairwind (Alliance) or Captain Rez'okun (Horde) lets you run expeditions with NPC companions.
- Play on a well-geared character. At high levels, normal expeditions are cleared in just a few minutes, significantly speeding up the farm.
- The mount is account-bound. You can farm expeditions on any character — once obtained, the mount becomes available to all of them.
Mount Features

- Swim speed: +100% to base speed
- Ground travel: unavailable — the mount can be used only underwater

- Family: invertebrates (jellyfish)
