Overview

Swift Breezestrider

Game iconSwift Breezestrider is an epic ground mount in the form of a talbuk, added in the Warlords of Draenor expansion (patch 6.0.2). It is a fast brown talbuk with a saddle that the draenei used to deliver messages between settlements.

The mount drops with a guaranteed 100% chance from the rare mob Pathrunner in Shadowmoon Valley on Draenor. It is one of seven mounts that can be obtained from rare open-world mobs in Draenor.

Why you want this mount

  • Guaranteed acquisition — the drop chance is 100% for every player who participated in killing Pathrunner. No random drops and no months-long farming
  • Available to both factions — both the Alliance and the Horde can obtain the mount without restrictions
  • Unique talbuk model — a brown talbuk with a saddled back, one of the few Draenor talbuks available without grinding reputation
  • Collection value — it is part of a series of seven mounts from Draenor rare mobs, needed to complete your collection
  • Account-bound — once obtained, the mount becomes available on all characters of your Battle.net account

Spawn point coordinates

Pathrunner can appear at one of six points located around Embaari Village in Shadowmoon Valley:

How to get to Shadowmoon Valley

Shadowmoon Valley is the Alliance starting zone in Draenor, but characters of both factions can get here.

For the Alliance

  1. Head to Stormwind
  2. In the portal area (next to the mage tower) find a smaller copy of the Dark Portal — the portal to Draenor
  3. Go through the portal — you will arrive in the Alliance garrison, which is located right in Shadowmoon Valley
  4. If you have not previously completed the Warlords of Draenor introductory quests, you need to speak with Khadgar in Stormwind and complete the starting quest chain in Tanaan Jungle

For the Horde

  1. Head to Orgrimmar
  2. Use the portal to Draenor (in the portal area) — you will arrive in the Horde garrison in Frostfire Ridge
  3. From the garrison, use a flight master or a flying mount to reach Shadowmoon Valley
  4. If you have unlocked flying in Draenor (the "Draenor Pathfinder" achievement), you can simply fly there directly

Step-by-step acquisition guide

  1. Get to Shadowmoon Valley on Draenor using one of the methods described above
  2. Install a tracking addon (optional, but useful). The HandyNotes and HandyNotes_DraenorTreasures addons will show rare mob spawn points on the map. The RareScanner or SilverDragon addon will help you detect Pathrunner when it appears nearby
  3. Fly around all six spawn points using the coordinates from the table above. If Pathrunner is not at any of them, it has not yet respawned since the last kill
  4. Wait for Pathrunner to spawn. The respawn time ranges from 2 to 8 hours. You can stay in the zone and periodically check the points, or drop by from time to time
  5. Attack Pathrunner. At the current maximum character level it dies in a few seconds — it is only level 35–40
  6. Collect the loot. Game iconSwift Breezestrider is guaranteed to be in the loot
  7. Use the item — the mount will be added to your collection and become available on all characters of the account

Farm optimization

How to speed up the search

  • Multiple characters. Place alt characters in Shadowmoon Valley near different spawn points. This way you can quickly check several points by switching between characters
  • Addons. SilverDragon or RareScanner automatically notify you when a rare mob appears, as long as you are in the zone. You don't need to manually check every point
  • Time of day. Pathrunner is killed less often during nighttime and early morning hours by server time. The chances of catching it alive are higher during these periods
  • Server type. On less populated servers, competition for rare mobs is significantly lower

Time to obtain

Since the mount is guaranteed to drop on kill, the whole matter comes down to when you catch Pathrunner alive. In the best case it will take a few minutes — if it happens to be there on your first visit. In the worst case you will have to wait several hours or drop into the zone several times during the day.

At the current maximum level, the kill itself takes literally a couple of seconds.

Tips

1

Don't confuse the zones. In WoW there are two Shadowmoon Valleys: one in Outland (The Burning Crusade), the other on Draenor (Warlords of Draenor). You need the Draenor version — it is located on a separate continent accessible through a portal

2

The mount drops only once. After you have obtained Swift Breezestrider, Pathrunner will no longer drop this item for that character. However, if the mount has not yet been learned, your other characters can still obtain it

3

A group is not required. It is enough to land at least one hit on Pathrunner to be eligible for the loot. Joining a group with other players is not necessary

4

Phasing can interfere. If you are in the zone with an active quest, you may be moved to a different phase where Pathrunner is absent. Try to complete the quests in the zone or leave the group if you are in a raid

5

Flying helps. If you have unlocked flying in Draenor (the "Draenor Pathfinder" achievement, parts I and II), flying around the spawn points will take just minutes
