Get Swift Gloomhoof mount
Overview

Swift Gloomhoof is a ground mount from the Shadowlands expansion (patch 9.0), added alongside the Ardenweald zone and the Night Fae covenant. Visually it is a grim purple-violet unicorn with black hooves, a glowing mane of stardust, and a long horn — a dark reflection of the Night Fae's radiant mounts.
The mount is a guaranteed drop from the rare NPC Night Mare — an elite level 62 rare that lives in Ardenweald but resides in a parallel dream dimension and only becomes visible after you use a special item. To reach this enemy, you will need to complete two quest chains, gather consumables, and obtain the Dream Catcher, which stays with you forever once crafted.
Why you want this mount
- A rare unicorn model — one of the few ground mounts in the game styled visually as a dark unicorn. Perfect for collectors and dark roleplay themes (Shadow priests, rogues, demon hunters)
- Guaranteed drop — unlike most rares, the Night Mare hands over the mount at a 100% chance. One kill and the item is yours
- Available to all covenants — the mount is not locked behind the Night Fae covenant. Players of other covenants can ask an Elite Queen's Guard at the entrance to the Heart of the Forest to invite Ysera for a conversation
- A permanent reward — once crafted, the Dream Catcher is not consumed and has no cooldown between kills, so you can help friends farm this rare without any extra preparation
- The quest chain is worth your time — during the preparation you complete the achievement Sojourner of Ardenweald and pick up important covenant story moments along the way
Step-by-step guide to obtaining it
Preparing to face the Night Mare consists of four major stages: find the
Broken Soulweb, close out two story quest blocks, gather 10 skeins of
Lightless Silk, and then turn it all into a
Dream Catcher at Ysera.
- Fly into Ardenweald. The minimum level is 60. If you belong to the Night Fae, go straight to the Heart of the Forest; players of other covenants only need access to the zone itself
- Find the Broken Soulweb object in the southwest of Ardenweald, on a rocky platform near the Tirna Scithe area (coordinates roughly
/way 18.1 62.0). Interacting with the object will give you the
Broken Soulweb - Find the Lady of the Falls and take her two starting quest chains: Trouble at the Gormling Corral and Crafty Sprigganns. Both lines are fully soloable in 30–60 minutes and lead to different parts of Ardenweald
- During or after the quests, accumulate 10 skeins of
Lightless Silk. This silk is obtained by weaving the Shadeweave Silk Cocoon found throughout Ardenweald and from the ordinary loot of humanoids in the zone - After closing out both quest lines and gathering the silk, head to Elder Gwenna in the Glitterfall Basin in the northern part of Ardenweald. She will repair the web and give you the
Repaired Soulweb - Make your way to the Heart of the Forest. If you are Night Fae, simply step inside and speak with Ysera. If you are in another covenant, approach one of the Elite Queen's Guards at the entrance and ask them to summon Ysera to you
- Speak with Ysera — she will enchant the web and turn it into a
Dream Catcher. The item stays in your bags forever - Fly to the Winter's Star flight point in the center of Ardenweald, head into the Dream Shrine valley (roughly
/way 57 49), and use the
Dream Catcher. You will gain a 5-minute buff and be transported into the shadow dimension, where the Night Mare becomes visible - Attack the rare and kill it. After it dies, the mount automatically drops into your bags
Quest chains — what to do
Without completing the two quest chains, Elder Gwenna will not repair the web. Both lines begin at the Lady of the Falls in the southwestern part of Ardenweald.
Chain | Gist | Final reward |
|---|---|---|
| Trouble at the Gormling Corral | Help the corral keeper, rescue gormlings, fight off sprigganns that abduct them | Reputation with the Winter Court, experience, unlocks access to the next step |
| Crafty Sprigganns | Destroy spriggann camps across various corners of Ardenweald, collect evidence of their schemes | Reputation with the Winter Court, |
Both chains count toward the Sojourner of Ardenweald achievement, so along the way you progress toward an additional reward.
Farm optimization
Since the drop is 100%, "farming" comes down to a single preparation session and a single kill. Even so, there are nuances that help save time.
Saving on quests
- Take both chains from the Lady of the Falls at the same time and run them in parallel — many points of interest overlap
- It is better to gather
Lightless Silk along the way during the quests rather than farming it separately. The 10 skeins usually drop before the chains are finished - If your covenant is not the Night Fae, remember that access to the Heart of the Forest is replaced by a conversation with a guard. Don't waste time looking for the entrance
Notes on alts
- The mount is recorded account-wide, so a single successful kill is enough forever
- The Dream Catcher and quest chains are character-bound — if you want to help friends, you will have to do it all over again on the desired character
- Helping others kill the rare is possible: if a player with an active buff enters the shadow dimension together with you (via a group), you will also see the Night Mare. To get the mount, your character needs its own Dream Catcher
Checking the spawn
- Before running the quest chain, visit the Dream Shrine valley in advance and check whether the patrol path is clear of other players
- During popular times (weekend evenings) a queue may form at the spot — adjust to morning hours when the server is less busy
Tips
Don't skip the Cracked Soulweb object — it is not a quest objective but a separate interaction. Many players come back for it after all the quests, which lengthens the process
Keep the Dream Catcher in your bags — the item is not consumed, but after leaving the shadow dimension it must be used again. Activate it near the spawn point
Interrupt Cosmic Downpour — this is the only truly dangerous ability the rare has. Without interrupting it, the fight can drag on noticeably for fragile specs
Farm other Ardenweald rewards in parallel — while you are here, complete the rest of the chains for Sojourner of Ardenweald and gather the zone's treasures. The area holds many small collectible items
Account for the queue — if 2–3 players are already standing at the spot, wait until one of them spawns and kills the mare, then use your own Dream Catcher. Each player gets their own copy of the mount, no one blocks anyone
The Night Fae covenant has it slightly easier — their entry to the Heart of the Forest is direct, but it only saves 1–2 minutes. The choice of covenant does not affect your ability to get the mount
