Overview

Swift Purple Raptor

Game iconSwift Purple Raptor is an epic ground mount added to World of Warcraft in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (patch 3.1.2). It is a large battle raptor with bright purple scales, characteristic of the Darkspear troll tribe. The mount is purchased from a vendor at the Argent Tournament grounds in Icecrown for 5 Champion's Seals and 500 gold.

To buy it, you must be a troll or have the Champion of Sen'jin achievement, which is unlocked through the Argent Tournament's chain of daily quests. The mount is available only to Horde characters.

Why you want this mount

  • Collection value — one of eight Horde racial mounts available through the Argent Tournament. Buying the Swift Purple Raptor on a Horde character automatically unlocks its Alliance counterpart — the Swift Violet Ram — for Alliance characters
  • Low cost — just 5 Champion's Seals and 500 gold. This is one of the cheapest tournament mounts, which you can buy literally on the first day after earning the rank of champion
  • Unique coloration — the purple coloring sets this raptor apart from the standard troll racial mounts available from regular vendors
  • Account-wide access — once obtained, the mount is unlocked for all Horde characters on your account

How to reach the Argent Tournament

The Argent Tournament is located in the northeast of Icecrown in Northrend.

  1. Head to Dalaran (Northrend). The portal to old Dalaran is available through a portal-trainer NPC in your faction's capital or through the portal room
  2. In Dalaran, find the flight master and use the flight point to the Argent Tournament camp
  3. You can also fly there yourself — the camp is in the northeastern part of Icecrown

How to obtain

The process of getting the mount consists of two stages: earning the rank of Champion of Sen'jin and buying the mount with seals.

Stage 1: Progression at the Argent Tournament

The Argent Tournament is a persistent playground with a system of daily quests and ranks. Progression goes through three ranks:

Rank What you need How long it takes
Aspirant Start the quest chain at the Argent Tournament 1 day
Valiant Collect 15 Aspirant's Tokens through daily quests 3 days
Champion Collect 25 Valiant's Seals through Sen'jin daily quests and win the trial 5 days

Total duration from start to the rank of champion is at least 9 days of daily quest completion.

  1. Arrive at the Argent Tournament and talk to the NPC in the Sunreavers' tent (Horde). You will be offered to become an aspirant
  2. Complete three aspirant daily quests, each of which grants Aspirant's Tokens. Over three days you will collect 15 tokens
  3. Turn in the 15 tokens and pass the trial — you will earn the rank of valiant
  4. If your character is a troll, you will automatically begin doing quests for Sen'jin. If not — first become a champion of your own race, then choose the Sen'jin faction
  5. Complete four valiant daily quests for Sen'jin. After 5 days you will collect 25 Valiant's Seals
  6. Turn in the seals and win the Valiant's Challenge — you will earn the Champion of Sen'jin achievement

Stage 2: Buying the mount

After earning the rank of champion, champion daily quests will open up for you, each of which rewards Champion's Seals. At champion rank you can earn from 6 to 11 seals per day.

  1. Complete the champion daily quests — 5 seals can be collected in a single day
  2. Find Samamba in the Sunreavers' tent at the Argent Tournament (coordinates 76.1, 24.4 in Icecrown)
  3. Buy the Game iconSwift Purple Raptor for 5 Champion's Seals and 500 gold
  4. Use the item — the mount will appear in your collection

Optimizing seal farming

Daily seal income

The number of seals per day depends on your progress at the tournament:

Rank Seals per day
Champion (one faction) 6–11
Crusader (all Horde factions) 9–17

To get the maximum seal income, become a Crusader — this requires the champion rank of all five Horde racial factions and Exalted reputation with each of them.

Sources of seals

  • Champion daily quests — the main source, 5–8 seals per day
  • Heroic mode of the Trial of the Champion — a dungeon at the tournament grounds, the bosses give additional seals
  • Crusader quests — unlocked after earning the title, give another 3–5 seals per day

Farming on alts

Since the raptor only requires 5 seals, farming on alts is impractical — you will earn the required amount in a single day on your main character. Alts make sense if you want to collect all the tournament mounts at once.

Tips

1

Start with championing your own race — if your character is not a troll, you will first have to complete the chain for your own race, then choose Sen'jin. This adds another 5 days to the progression

2

Combine with other goals — the Argent Tournament sells pets, toys, tabards and transmog gear for seals. While you are completing the quest chain, plan your purchases in advance

3

Don't forget the dungeon — the Trial of the Champion in heroic mode gives extra seals and is cleared quickly at max level

4

Check your reputation — if your character does not have Exalted reputation with the Darkspear Trolls, put on the Sen'jin tabard and grind reputation in any dungeons. This will speed up earning the Crusader title

5

At level 90 it's all simple — in Midnight all Argent Tournament quests and the dungeon are completed instantly. The only limitation is the daily quest reset, which cannot be bypassed
